  2. Agreed. People spend so much money on gear like that and that is best they can do with it? Casio SK1's sound better than this. :)

  3. before i saw the comments i was going to say the same Negative Nancie kind of thing but i guess its still cool that they posted the vid. and 'sides the person was probably more concerned with their cinematography or balancing both duties. the rezo sounds at the end are aaiight. and if you acually heard this in person it may have a life and movement you dont experience after the undoubted fucking 13 genertions it took to get to your crappy home speakers....you know....anyways i would be so happy to have one of these monsters and the funniest thing is that when the girl you bring home the first time she thinks its all like the cat's meow and shit and then after you guys are together for a while its comes to be emblematic for everything screwed up in your relationship.
what do you guys think? yeah or nay....elvis or the beatles if $ was no issue would you get one of these? I seem to see doepfers on the used market much more frequently than comparable contemporary manufacturers. AND i DONT hear a lot about maintanence issues and stability problems. what would have been nice instead of boring and uninspired would be to show off osme sound effect and REAL musicality to demonstrate the system's efficiency, personality, sexiness as it applies and is capable. it is quite possible that due to what i feel is a serioulsy ugly aesthetic maybe others subconciously feel drab when they're programming one of these. Maybe, its partially why VCS3's Wiards and ARPS are so coveted besides the rarity and number of available module choices/configurations----- they look terrific! as for doepfers, i like the prices a lot and i bet they got at the very least, decent build quality. that doepfer the one guy had where he had a custom cherry case looked sharp, in fact. nice. OR do you synth epicurians think that doepfer is synonymous withh behringer and their line of simulacra and straight corporate intellectual property theevin' is straight garbage? whats the big word? I wanna start a thread cuz im interested in starting to expand in their direction. I have other modulars but all of the aesthetically pleasing/ not cheap/ exotic flavor/ hard to source/ fantastic sound /difficult to maintain variety. also anyone here know if from experience if there are any options for different face plate desings cuz i hate how the jacks n' knobs are all bunched up. i fucking hate it! please write back guys thank you i respect yr opinions. for the price you can get a mountain (in terms of quantity) of Doepfer that you would get a handful of cynthia, Ken stone, bode/moog, ARP 2500, etc. I would also take a wavemaker ANY oL' day thank you very much!!!!!!!

P.s. ...wouldn't you/ I had just finished and my page had to reload cuz of some kind of 404 runtime brainfart and i thought iu share something that made me scream out loud.....if you dig around in analoghell's flikr set set two or three links down under the 'modular synth tage, you will see the most lovely room of wood panel trimmed moular synth walls like all slick byuilt into the walls and so SOOOOOO HOT! he's got a 2600, 2 2500's(!) PLUS a wing cab!!!, Obie sequencers and programmers and so so much more. y'all really should check it out
    ! wow!

  4. I think Doepfers are great for certain stuff. Their sound generation is fine, you certainly can't beat the prices for modular gear, and there's a lot to be said for new gear that's not hard to find which also has a thriving used market. What I especially like about them is that, since they're Eurorack, you can get a ton of other stuff to play nicely with them. I built my own system with meat-and-potatoes Doepfer modules and have been replacing the sound generation bits mostly with Plan B oscillators, filters, low-pass gates, etc. My single favorite thing about Doepfer is the enormous number of various processing modules. You can get a severe amount of stuff in not much space for not a huge amount of money (relatively speaking of course, I won't pretend it's cheaper than a bunch of software). I'm also a fan of their effects, e.g. the spring reverb and BBD delay(which makes an awesome flanger).

I don't have much of an opinion on the aesthetics. Yeah, I mean, I like the black knobs on Plan B and the yellow cycle switch on my Bananalogue modules, but I'm not going to pretend that there's some creative effect due to the typeface Peter Grenader uses vs. the one Dieter Doepfer uses.

Quality wise, I got one dead module that was replaced immediately, which is a tribute to the amazing service at Analogue Haven as much as anything else.

    One man's opinion.

  5. how do you people deal with such small modulars....i mean some of those knobs look impossible to reach!.....

i'll stick to my large format, big knobs and quarter inch jacks

  6. He sure did have a lot of stuff doing not so much. It's probably the crappy sound reproduction or maybe it was just an off day or maybe he's just shite.
About the size it can be frustrating your fingers pinching at cables but it's not too much of a hinderance and I prefer the overall size of the dopefer stuff. Smaller, more compact, shorter cable runs, more portable and easier to see all at once. Bigger modulars would not be for me. I can understand the appeal but not for me.

  9. > People spend so much money on gear like that and that is best they can do with it?

At least he posted a video with sound. Don't tell me that you honestly think that 98% of modular synth purchasers will strive to do anything much more complicated.

  10. for me music is not about complexity but simplicity. If a modular does anything for me it simplifies the sound so as you can hear the raw tone of oscillators beating or hear the richness of the filter. Why does a modular have to be relegated to trick sounds why can't they just sound great no matter what they do and leave it at that.

Everytime someone mentions a modular somebody else mentions the cost like all of a sudden these people turn into harded nose, bottom line, business acumen, save the pennies and pounds save themselves, type people.

To judge a musical instrument on its price is a little sickening if you ask me. It's pretty cheap really... your talking the best of the best and normally the best of the best is much more expensive that most analogue modules... just think of drums or hi-fi systems or cars or ???
