REALTON SSAP-ZERO Digital Synth from 1983

Just a shot of the brochure via this auction. According to the auction the brochure has 4 pages.

This one via swissdoc who mentioned "As of synrise it was only a prototype. Realton is the company which made the VARIOPHON." You can read more about the Variophon in this post.

Serge Plexiglass VCS

via this auction

"this is a very special Bananalogue Serge VCS module, only the second one we've made with a plexiglass front panel, and the first in the Frac Rack format. This module is based on the classic Serge DUSG module (possibly the single most flexible synth module ever created), you can find much more information about the module at our website.

This module is a special one-off Frac Rack VCS created with a translucent red plexi front panel, red indicator LED and red switch cap, with yellow laser engraved legends. Fits fine in a Blacet or PAIA brand Frac Rack and works great alongside Wiard/Blacet/PAIA/MetalBox/etc etc modules in this form factor. However, since the panel is plastic it is more prone to scratching and care MUST be taken when mounting the module not to tighten the mounting screws too tight or the panel could crack. I would actually recommend using some small rubber or plastic washers between the mouting screws and the actual module. When it's in the rack with the LED blinking away the module looks pretty neat!"

Van Halen - Jump (Greensboro)

YouTube via almostsaved.
"Van Halen performs "Jump" in Greensboro, NC on September 29, 2007."
This one has been making its rounds. In case you missed it, word is the OB-Xa synth piece is a recording being incorrectly played back at a sample rate of 48k instead of 44.1k - completely out of tune against Eddie Van Halen's guitar. Don't miss David Lee Roth's baton performance after the horrendous guitar solo as well as him riding a huge inflatable microphone shortly after.

OB-Xa 0385 MIDI Kit

If you have an Oberheim OB-Xa with MIDI, specifically on the left side panel, you could have a MIDI retrofit kit with the numbers 0385 printed on it. If you did not receive instructions with it, you might be stuck in OMNI mode. Below are some notes on how to get out of OMNI mode via Boele of SCD. If you have the full instructions for this kit feel free to post a comment or contact me directly. My contact info is on the bottom right of the site. That said, here are some notes via Boele:

"If you click twice on "Chord" you'll get into a sort of second page, like on the OB8. (you'll notice because the burning leds will change and you won't be able to choose any preset sounds anymore). If you press "Write" plus 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, you will choose the desired midichannel. Without doing this procedure you will stay in omnimode. Unfortunately this is non volatile(?) so every time you turn the ob-xa on, you'll have to do this. The midi interface enables you to send program changes and pitchbend info to the Oberheim. You can also dump sounds through system exclusive, but I can't recall how unfortunately. BUT you should ber able to check it out against this manual of an encore midi kit. Although it's a different kit, just by trying I found out the same sort of programmability. I think with the A, B, C and D knobs something must be achieved in terms of sysex dumping etc. http://www.encoreelectronics.com/ob8mk.pdf"

AnalogLive! Upate

"PaulTzanetopoulos outlines the video concept for Analoglive, slated for November 16th at the Redcat Theater located at the Disney Music Center in Los Angeles:

'Six direct video feeds (one per player) will supply the source materials for a real-time interactive video abstract which will be projected onto a large screen at the rear wall of the theater.Simultaneously, other various video images will be rear-projected onto five 30 foot high translucent light curtains (scrims) which will be hung behind the performers who are positioned in a semicircle of 1 and 2 foot high risers upstage . The audience experience will consist of the video montage created by these image layers.'

A note to those who may becontemplating attending this event: seats are selling quickly!

Upcoming Compact Clone "Krautrock Phaser" via JH

"If you listen to German records from the 1970's, you often hear a rather unique phasing that comes from a device called 'Compact A Phaser' from the Berlin company 'Gert Schulte Audio Elektronik'. It's often referred to as 'Schulte Phaser', and I have heard it being called 'Krautrock Phaser', 'Schulze Phaser' (because it's prominent on many early KS albums), 'TD Phaser' (because of Tangerine Dream). In my opinion, this phaser has been important to the sound of these early electronic musicians almost as much as the synthesizers the used." More info and images

Jomox Sunsyn

images via this auction

"SERIAL No. 0060
Jomox introduces their first major analog real-time synthesizer. It's a true analog with 8 voices (4- and 6-voice versions available) housed in a classic looking desktop-style case with wood end-cheeks, 40 knobs, 42 buttons and 85 LED's! It's also rack-mountable if you prefer.

The SunSyn features 2 analog oscillators (VCO's) per voice. The waveforms include sawtooth, square and pulse with pulsewidth-modulation. But in addition to these are the new Ramp Controlled Oscillators (RCO's). The RCOs follow the VCO characteristics like modulation, sync, tuning and frequency alterations. The RCO's use digital sounds which come from 4 wavesets, each with 256 waveforms each. In effect, these digital sounds get an analog treatment for nicer, warmer and fatter tones. There are 4 RCO's per voice and wavesets can be added via PCMCIA-card.

The filter section is also a true analog design but with very modern features. It is a 4-pole filter but fully configurable with independent high pass and low pass features available. Create filters that range from the sounds of a Minimoog, to the squelchy 303. Filter settings can be stored in one of two scene memories and real-time Morphing between scenes can be accomplished.

As for modulation, JoMoX has devised a clever Routing System for the SunSyn, turning it into an 8-voice modular! It is used to virtually patch between various modules or parameters. There are up to 4 Routing Elements per voice with 4,096 possible combinations per Routing Element. Modulation paths are configured using the front panel display screens. This modular approach to signal routing is a feature usually found only on the huge, expensive classic Modular synths by ARP, E-mu, Moog and Buchla. Unlike those, however, the SunSyn features complete patch memory (350 patches and 150 multi-patches) and multitimbral MIDI implementation. Most parameters can be controlled by MIDI, and controller/editor templates for most sequencers will be, or already are available. As for output, there are stereo outs, 8 freely routable individual outs and a stereo input to run external audio through the Routing system.

The new SunSyn is a true analog synth built for the wealthy synthesists of today. For total analog control and sounds, check out the SunSyn, especially if you can afford it!

Specifications:
Polyphony - 8 voices (4- and 6- voice models available too)
Oscillators - 2 VCOs per voice; waveforms: saw, square, pulsewidth. 2 RCOs per voice (digital waveforms that follow the analog oscillators)
LFO - 2 per voice; triangle, sawtooth up/down, rectangle and random waveforms

Effects - None
Keyboard - None
Memory - 350 Single / 150 Multi / 4 wavesets; 1 PCMCIA card slot for waves and sounds
