Alesis Ion easy synth-ing 2: making a piano sound.

YouTube via se7ense7
"I explain and show some synthesis options on the Alesis Ion synhtesizer trying to emulate a electric piano sound using hard-sync. Synthesizing pianos isn't something easy, and is explained very good in the article provided by this link: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/Oct02...

I'm not saying I master piano synthesis in any way, I'm just showing how simple sync synthesis can be used to try and make that sound.

This movie also showes the easiness of programming the Ion synthesizer."

Nord Lead 2X: 4 programs playing at the same time

YouTube via fischek
"Short description: this is just a quick demo of all 4 programs in a layer (performance) playing simultaneously to show Nord Lead 2X capabilities.

Long description: The Nord Lead 2X has 4 slots which you can use to load 4 different sounds/programs and thus create a layer i.e. a performance. This video demonstrates Nord Lead 2X when all 4 sounds/programs have been loaded and play simultaneously.

Furthermore, each slot can have a dedicated output (there are 4 audio outputs on the back) so you can manipulate each of the programs separately."

Triadex Muse

"RARE TRIADEX MUSE. What is it? The Net is full of resources. It is a very rare piece of Electronic music history. From Wikipedia: "The Triadex Muse is the first digital musical instrument and was produced in 1972. It was designed by Edward Fredkin and Marvin Minsky at MIT. It is an algorithmic music generator: it uses digital logic circuits to produce a sequence of notes based on the settings of various parameters. It has four small sliders in that control Volume, Tempo, Pitch, and Fine Pitch. It is not known how many were made, but they are considered extremely rare. The Muse is the subject of U. S. Patent 3610801"

"At all events a panel is laid out intelligibly. Unlike Jupiter-8. A glamourous white woman. She can speak only English, but talk intelligibly. As for this, Jupiter-8 is so, but the reason is because it goes along the flow of the signal of the analog synthesizer which the flow of the sound says from left to right. It does not get a hint I want to watch first DX7 and call a parameter to a small window, and to change numerical value. When I play this one, I remember the face whom the Uncle friendly Tom Oberheim smiled." click here for more.

Plan b Model 15 Oscillator

VAC has some words and samples of the Plan b Model 15 OSC up here. The samples of it sound really good.

"It is a good osc, it has a lot of inputs, The SAW and Sine are amazing. This thing is very cutting. I think it’s best suited for sound fx and buchla type sounds. But for me, I needed something that had a little better tracking stability. What else is good about this osc, well for sure, there are a lot of inputs, for fm, sync and cv, so much more than other eurorack vcos. So this is why I think for FX and weird stuff, this is a great VCO. The Fine Tuning knob was a big help as well, I wish more oscillators had this. I give it a 4 out of 5."

Mochika: bleeps und bloops

"Playing with my new Atomosynth Mochika... I ran it through a lame reverb effect on my mixer, but that's pretty much it. I was going to add some drums and stuff, but it doesn't sync via midi, and I don't have a midi sync to gate adapter yet. :(

Kawai R100

images via this auction

"1985 Kawai R100 drum machine. Forget about the Roland TR 707 or the Oberheim DMX, the Kawai dominates over these machines for several reasons. First and foremost, THE SOUND! This box has the absolute deepest digital 12 bit kicks, toms, and snares I have heard in a drum machine. The sound is very deep and ranges from chesty, impact hits to aggressive and biting high's in the hi hat and cymbal department. Aggressive is probably the best word to describe the overall sound and feel of this machine. And if you are a fan of industrial music look no further. This is the EXACT sound of Ministry, KMFDM, and pretty much the bulk of Wax Trax! Records. I have sat with my copy of Twitch, Land of Rape and Honey, and What Do You Know, Deutschland and have recreated the rhythms and sounds VERBATIM! This is the box that did it. Pretty much every sound was featured on those records and the inexplicable aggressive movement of the machine's sequencer is what makes that industrial feel!

This was recorded with no outboard straight into Ableton Live and using only the R100 internal sequencer to sequence everything including the melodic content. There are no fx added other than a delay on the orchestral hits and Beat Repeat to stutter and filter the beat. It's a quick and rough demonstration with no mixing (the levels are off I know :) ) but demonstrates but a fraction of the feel and the general sound of this box! I used maybe about 5 of the 48 different sounds and two patterns! When you process this box with some proper mic preamps and a slamming compressor see what happens :)"

Update via natefrogg in the comments:
"awesome little box! one of the most under rated 80s digital drum machines!

they're going for pretty decent prices on ebay, i just won one for about 50$, should get it in a few days and am excited =)

one of the coolest things about the kawai r 100 is that you can tune the drum hits on a step by step basis in your sequence, that can result in wackiness and oddities!

there seem to be tons of cool mods for them too, one of which allows you to switch between 4 different rom sound sets

here's the manual and sorry for replying to something so old hehe =)

From left to right the dials are: "SWEEP RATE (10MS to 1 SEC)", "FREQUENCY (1 to 10)", "FREQ. RANGE (switch between 10, 100, 1K, 10K, 100K)", "WAVEFORM (switch between sine, triangle, square)", "AMPLITUDE (0 - 5)" and "ATTENUATOR (switch between 0DB, 20DB, 40DB)".

Along the bottom row, left to right: on/off switch; power indicator lamp; SWP terminal; SYNC SWP and WAVE terminals; OUTPUT DIR, GND and ATTEN terminals; SWEEP mode switch (SWP or CW); SWEEP reset buttonl SWEEP RATE switch (x1 FAST, x100 SLOW).

Condition wise the front panel looks awesome. It has a brushed chrome panel. The top cover is powder coated black and has a few chips and flaws. There's a silver label on the back with serial number "E11063", Mits logo and the text "Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems Inc."

Modified Roland SH-101

via this auction

"Roland SH-101 analog synthesizer professionally modified by Diabolical Devices. We have added an audio input for the VCF with a level adjustment. This allows you to input any line level signal and either mix it with synth VCOs or process just input signal (by adjusting source mixer). This is a great feature for this keyboard!! The VCA effects audio input too so you can adjust ADSR settings or pass signal straight using "HOLD" feature. The VCF can be modulated by sh-101s triangle, square, of random LFO, or by the envelope generator. Awsome effects for DJs or for processing drums or anything else. We have aslo added 1/8" outputs for Triangle, Square, and Random modulation which can be used to control external synths....Or trigger circuit-bent sounds in one of our modified Casio SK-1s. This would also go REALLY well with the modified x0xb0x (roland tb-303 clone) that we currently have listed."
