RIP Michel Waisvisz of STEIM

"Michel Waisvisz died peacefully in his home last night after fighting the mean cells in his body for the last eight months.

He was born on the 8th of July 1949 and lead STEIM as Director for 27 years. He left us on a day when artists and friends from around the world gathered downstairs to perform for a full-house season-closing concert.

Michel was a musician, visionary and occasional gardener - touched by sound and forever happy to be surprised. He was the source of an enormous surge of energy that continues to flow through STEIM into the world.

We will miss his touch, crackle, inspiration and constant improvisation of the now.

Walter Carlos' Switched On Bach II

flickr by solsken

"Here's what I'm listening to today...

After undergoing a sex change operation in 1972, Walter Carlos is now known as Wendy Carlos. She's probably best known for scoring films like Clockwork Orange and Tron, and was great buddies with Bob Moog -- she even helped to develop Moog's technology through early adoption and feedback of his synths. She also photographs solar eclipses. Pretty cool."

"the title, i guess, says it- this would be the first PCB i have offered, and as is always requested, any suggestions/questions are welcome. i will post up some scope-shots as they will help to illustrate the "quadrature" and "OR's" functions at work.

the PCBs will be silk-screened and solder masked and a .pdf with all pertinent info will be included. i have tried to make the design as versatile as possible- one generator per board that can be used alone or in conjunction with others-
there are pads for PCB-mount potentiometers, with the Pot bodies spaced
1" center-to-center.

i have modified a few things- but the circuit is very close to the original. the controls, ins and outs are:

attack control with CV input
decay control with CV input
gate/trig input
end-of-cycle pulse output
CV output (0-10V)
3-way mode switch (AR transient, ASR or cycle)
quadrature mode
OR or peak output with attenuator and provision for external input
LED indicator"

DotCom, MiniMax, Doepfer MAQ16/3, AX80 and Nord Lead 1

YouTube via attorks
"A simple theme. Doepfer row 1 drives the Synthesizers.com (the sound at the beginning)and row 3 the MiniMax ASB (second sound and bass). The MiniMax ASB is on my left and not visible in the video. AX80 is on chord memory so I can push 1 note to get a chord. The distinct sound of the DotCom is caused by patching the saw wave of oscillator 2 to the resonance input on the Q107 filter. Oscillator 2 is FM'ed slightly by a formant LFO from the modular below the DotCom."

Harvestman Tyme Sefari examples

via Mr. Array:

"I just caught these on the Harvestman mailing list.

The first two come from the user named Loopcycle:

'the doepfer 143-1 gate outs are triggering direction, record and loop functions in the tyme sefari independently. a turntable is feeding the harvestman tyme sefari. i am also switching between frequency shifted and normal versions of the source material.'

'the tyme sefari record cv input is being clocked at audio rates and the loop points are set very close to each other for the metallic effect.'

The third comes from the user named Luigi, who had this to say:

'Heya... well, here is a clip I just made using my new Plan B Tapclock, Malgorithm, Polivoks, a Sequential Switch and a Moog mf-107.

I'll make more clips tomorrow when my Tyme Sefari and Sound Of Thunder come in!
