AudioCubes Reviews, OSC Support and Open Source SDK
New SDK and OSC SupportWe put together a mini audiocube configuration panel for building audio applications easily with the cubes and Max/MSP. This will also let us develop some interesting standalone audio applications in the very near future. As an example, we created some patches to send Open Sound Control (OSC) messages to Future Audio Workshop's Circle synth using the AudioCubes. We also did a Quartz Composer example to send colour info over Open Sound Control (OSC) from Quartz to the AudioCubes' RGB LED.
AudioCubes compatible with Max/MSP 5
AudioCubes work with Max/MSP 5 Cycling '74 recently announced Max/MSP 5, a new version of its well-known creative development environment Max/MSP. As you probably already know, AudioCubes comes with an open source development kit consisting of the hardware communication external for Max/MSP and a collection of Max/MSP patches for making your own applications for AudioCubes. You can download all software from the Percussa Website under the Support section, even if you don't have AudioCubes. Today we tested the patches and external with Max/MSP 5 and all patches and external seem to work fine, so we can confirm that AudioCubes and Max/MSP 5 are compatible.

AudioCubes Review with Cornelius (Japan) A Japanese Magazine, Gakken’s Otonanokagaku (Science for Adults), did a review about the AudioCubes with Cornelius a while ago. You can download the PDF file of the article at the Percussa Blog. The magazine also contains an interesting synthesizer kit.
AudioCubes at GRANdE MASSIFE Event
AudioCubes at Grande Massife 08 Dirk Kuntze (DJ D'Dread) from Germany, which we met at the Musikmesse back in March, reports about the GRANdE MASSIFE where he played with AudioCubes. Grande Massife is an outdoor arts and music event. Dirk also performed at the Street ArtAffair in Leipzig with the AudioCubes. Oberheim OB-Mx calibration ROM and instructions

The calibration procedure is pretty complex and requires a scope (and preferably the voice board extender card that lets you get to the board while the unit is on). The OB-Mx uses some digital pots with built-in nonvolatile memory. I had always assumed that these were recalibrated upon booting up the OB-Mx, but it turns out they are set in this calibration procedure. I suspect that a lot of errant voice boards that are out there just need recalibrated. Maybe some of them were sloppily calibrated to begin with - who knows.

P.S. One caveat is that Lynx Crowe told me he recalled there being some runs of voice boards where Gibson used the wrong sort of capacitors in the oscillator section, resulting in boards that went out of wack as the temperature changed. He couldn't recall exactly what or where."

Today we pause to reflect on the powerful legacy that we strive to honor and support every day. Bob Moog lives on through his instruments, through the musicians that use them and through the music. Yet Bob's legacy of technical brilliance and creative warmth extends beyond the music community, and touches thousands of people around the world who have been effected by his pioneering career. The Caring Bridge site that Bob's family established for him in the summer of 2005 has now topped 300,000 visitors -- thousands of those people have left heartfelt tributes. Bob lives on in so many ways – the Moog Legacy is rich, vast and varied.
Today we launch a tribute to that legacy in our new YouTube channel. On this channel, you'll find friends, family, colleagues, musicians and music-lovers reflecting on the impact Bob had on their lives, and on the world of music. Featured on this channel is a beautifully crafted video from Amin Bhatia called "Virtuality: The Moog Legacy". You will remember that we featured Amin's "Virtuality" CD in our May newsletter in celebration of Bob's birthday. Now, Amin pays hommage to Bob in this video tribute. It is not to be missed! This is an easy, affordable and fun way to support us! The music from this compilation CD is wonderfully varied – and each track offers its own unique Moog sound. Many thanks to our volunteer MySpace Coordinator Wheat Williams for making all of this possible, and to all of the Asheville musicians who have donated their tracks to the foundation. This musical tribute is nothing short of a celebration of the Moog Legacy and an exposition of a stunningly talented musician who carries the torch for that legacy every time he gracefully, knowingly lays his fingers on a synth. "The rs290's digital delay has a send and return function that allows you to affect just the repeats. You can do this either before or after the delay. in this case we're filtering the delays with the rs110 Multimode Filter. The rs290 Delay is also MIDI syncable and will give you a read out of the current tempo divide rate and allows to adjust how delay in relation to the MIDI time code. The delay is also syncable to an external trigger signal like a seguencer. Part three is coming soon!"

"Hello,
this is a Wavestation SR playing the StereoVocoder2 effect on its own without external FX.
I use two rhytmic wavesequences as modulator beeing x-faded via vector-synthesis ('joystick-ac'-midi-cc-slider), a sawtooth-wave and a vocal waveseq as carrier (chord).
Internal 100 bpm clock is used to sync the waveseqs to. I'm also using a Midi-Switch to send a Note (A-0) triggering the beat-loop (tune-slope = 0). So I am able to play live with both hands. The Filters are controlled via MIDI-1- and MIDI-2-cc (sliders).
Btw. I used the small two-line display for all editing work which, in my opinion, is a faster way to achive results than SoundDiver or MidiQuest.

"This is my latest creation.
It is a Casio VL tone with 12 circuit bends. All are on toggle switches and potentiometers.
There are two pots on the circuit board that have been removed so that they can be controlled externally, these fine tune the pitch or tone.
all of the extra circuitry is mounted on plastic mini trunking as its well cheap and doesn't look that bad, i think it looks better than taking out the speaker.
also mounted a 1/4" socket on the side so it can be plugged into recording desks more easily without the use of noisy adaptors. this creates enough noise already."

"THE AUDIO IS VERY DISTORTED, TURN YOUR SPEAKERS DOWN. A few people have been concerned about the Jupe 8 I recently purchased that was not working properly, so here is an update. My tech said he finished the Jupe 8. I went and checked it out - all 8 voices are now triggering, but a couple still need calibrating. I'm going to go ahead and order the Encore MIDI kit and have him install it while he's got the synth. Hopefully, I'll have a fully operational synth in a month or so."
