Installing Low-Gain's NESmod (Version 1.0)

YouTube via natemccoy
"This is a quick video I made outlining the installation of Low-Gain's NESmod. I hope you enjoy it.

Here is Low-Gain's Web documentation regarding the modification installation.
http://lowgain-audio.com/NESmod.htm
He has the modification available for purchase via his website, as well as some other cool music.

This modification allows for an amplified direct connection to the 2A03 allowing for greater sound output and quality from the NES.

This is ideal for anyone using the NES for sound and musical compositions.

Low-gain gave this modification to me at blip festival '08 so i made a quick and simple video. Thanks a lot man!

Here are some websites of my own personal music if you are interested.

"Blue *shaved* LEDs, such that they are flush with the surface, which is better for extended use as your fingers don't impact the LEDs themselves, and it also diffuses the LED's intensity too by adding a 'frosting effect' of sorts. Very trick!

The MIDI in and out cables are for the Colin Frasier midi kit.... and they connect via two custom, well-made mini cables (1/8", pictured). The Colin midi kit is the best on the market by far....you can play back any midi sequence from the 303's own sequencer later on, so you effectively have 'infinite memory' when used with your DAW's sequencer, etc. It's totally, completely, amazing. For production, it's insane to be able to recall a track you worked on a year ago, and replay the midi sequence back to the 303...it's comes back IDENTICAL to the 303's original sequencer...just make sure Logic's 'quantize' features are off when recording the original 303 sequence. For live perforamance, it's also awesome to clock off the MachineDrum, without need for any third converter boxes, etc. The MD can even 'play' this 303 with it's own midi machines, too...for a different non-acid vibe. Radical!"

Mattel SYNSONICS Analog Drum Synthesizer

via this auction
"vintage 1982 Mattel "Synsonics" electronic drum synthesizer. This analog device has four surface mounted drum pads, with controls for overall tune and volume mounted on each side of the housing. This machine is rigidly constructed, and it can actually be played with normal wooden drum sticks!

Power is by 6 "C" Batteries, or a optional 9-VOLT DC power supply. I have installed a new set of Duracell batteries, since I do not have the plug-in type of power supply. This unit can be plugged into a mixer via a set of stereo RCA outputs, or you can listen privately, through a pair of stereo headphones. I turned the power on, and tried all of the programs and functions of this amazing little drum box, and was instantly impressed with the really cool analog drum sounds built into this machine! This unit is fully functional, and is remarkably free from wear and tear, and is not dirty or dusty.

An original Synsonics owner's manual is included, it is terrifically helpful in programming this device . These manuals are extremely rare! This Sysonics drum pad system also comes with the original stand mounting clamp, that will allow you to attach this assembly to any modern Pearl, Yamaha Or DW drum stand. The bracket is easily removeable to allow you to use this drum machine as a tabletop system."

The Harvestman Interview on VICMOD

"The Harvestman is one of the most unique euro modular companies out there today. Expect the unexpected seems to be the rule , be it the Tyme Sefari, a bendable loop sampler/delay, the Zorlon Cannon an Atari style noise generator with random gates, or the Malgorithm the world's first voltage-controlled bitcrusher and much more.
I fired questions his way....."

Throbbing Gristle's Gristleizer On Boing Boing

Check out the post on Boing Boing.

MATRIXSYNTH got a mention as well. Pretty cool...

For those not familiar with Boing Boing, see this article on Wikipedia. They started in 1988 as a zine. They have a huge reader base and cover a myriad of topics ranging from politics to medicine, to drunken partying snowmen. :) You can find a few posts featured here including a tribute to Raymond Scott and a visit with David Byrne by Xeni Jardin. I've been reading Boing Boing since before I started MATRIXSYNTH. It's my favorite non-exclusivly-synth centric site. It's cool seeing them cover this.

Happy 2009 - Waldorf Blofeld Track

via Boele of SCD on the Waldorf list:

"My last Blofeld sound

for this year that is... :D

http://www.synthmusic.info number 339. [top left when you get there]

Believe it or not, after the first sound, it is just one other sound from the Blofeld. I like it so much that I decided to put it online. There is NO additional FX. No external reverb, no external delay. Just a little distortion from recording it too loud... Will correct that soon.

Did some small corrections on the website as well, added two new songs, one old movie, a possibility to add my own comments on a song and in the "various" section it might be interesting for people to look if they:
a. own a Novation Remote 25 and a Microwave 1
b. own an Alesis Andromeda A6
c. own a Roland TR-808 and are Dutch or Belgian ;-)

Regards, Boele"

Two shots of Mike's Midibox Clockbox with some updates to the code. You can find more info in the update to this 1x ClockBox, 3x x0xb0x post.

Note in that post I asked if anyone had more info on the ClockBox. It turns out it's a project from uCapps.de/MIDIBox, makers of the MIDIBox SID.

Comments disabled here to keep them on the previous post. I primarily put this one up to let people know the prior post has been updated.

Studio Electronics ATC-Xi Review

German review on Amazona.de
Googlish version here.

"In recent times offered different versions of their SE geplegten good models SE1 (SE1X), Omega 8 and the present test subjects ATC to Xi. Structurally, these are not very far apart. The most important difference is: The Omega 8 is polyphonic, the SE1 and ATC are monophonic. The ATC is the smallest and cheapest model, and differs from SE1 by a slightly different on the Minimoog-oriented user interface with knobs.

In addition to two (!) MIDI jacks are two ring modulator connections (!) And an additional input for external signals on the back of the instrument. The ring modulator is externally beschickbar, and the modulator signal is outside tap..."

Ex-Mess Electro

You can hear the track on Isotope of Me, via the forum.
"I finally had a few moments to spend in the headphones this weekend, and this little electro piece is what happened. It’s pretty cheery and a bit, um… chill, I guess (god I hate that term, but I guess it fits). DSI Evolver and Doepfer are working on bass, while various soft synths play the other parts. Samples are being played by the fantastic Short circuit 2 soft sampler. Wurlitzer EP samples and ARP string synth samples are thanks to Hollow Sun."
