KORG Mono/Poly

via this auction

"The Korg Mono/Poly is a "mono-polyphonic" analog synthesizer manufactured by Korg from 1981–1984. The original retail price was $1400. This keyboard is the sister synth to the Korg Polysix. The Mono/Poly, as well as the Polysix, are being swiped up on the used vintage synthesizer market as an alternative to often over-priced Moogs, Prophets, Oberheims, and Jupiters."

MFB Synth Lite II Monophonic Analog Synth

via this auction
"The SYNTH LITE II is the programable successor of MFB´s popular SYNTH LITE. This monophonic synthesizer offers three digital oscillators, external audio input, analogue lowpass filtering with 24dB/oct and an analogue voltage controlled amplifier.
SYNTH LITE II is equipped with MIDI and offers 83 memory locations. MFB has even integrated a programable stepsequencer.
Here are the details:
Two main oscillators each offer sawtooth and square. In addition OSC 2 can be set to generate an impulse waveform. Ring modulation is as well possible as synchronising OSC 2 to his partner.
Each oscillator´s octave range can be set to 4’, 8’ or 16’. OSC 2 can be further detuned over a range of plusminus one octave.
The voltage controlled filter (VCF) offers 24 dB/oct lowpass filtering. EMPHASIS can be set up to self-oscillation. An external audio input is also routed directly to the filter. Both, the voltage controlled filter and the following voltage controlled amplifier have dedicated envelope generators with Attack, Decay, Release and Sustain parameters. Decay and Release share a control and are selected by a switch.
The SYNTH LITE II´s LFO can modulate the oscillators´ pitch or the filter cutoff frequency. Pulsewidth modulation for OSC 2 is also possible by setting its waveform to Impulse.
A glide function can be activated with different speeds to achieve popular portamento effects.

MIDI data are received as note on/off, pitch wheel (+/- 2 semitones) and mod wheel. Velocity can be routed to VCF and/or VCA and be disabled.
The sequencer is programed from a MIDI-keyboard. Its resolution is 16th notes with up to 32 steps. Pause notes can be set as well as external synchronization.

The MFB-SYNTH LITE II measures 175 x 125 x 35 mm. The power supply unit is included.
The unser manual as a word documen, you can find here Part1 and Part2.

MFB products are sold at your musical instruments dealer. If you can´t find any reseller closeby we will also sell the MFB-SYNTH LITE II directly within Germany."

Appendage Touch Ribbon *Sequencer * - First Video (With Klee Accompaniment)

YouTube via ScottStites
"This is a demo of a very basic application of the Appendage Touch Ribbon Sequencer I'm working on. The sequencer can be clocked, or steps can be selected by the ribbon. In this video, various step values are programmed in and accessed by the Appendage. The step voltage is driving a VCO. The slide output of the Klee is controlling filter cutoff. The TFS output of the Appendage is also controlling the cutoff of the Triple Wilson SVVCF module, which is processing a copy of the Appendage driven VCO and also the signal controlled by the Klee, which is providing the sequenced accompaniment. So, stretching two points of pressure affects the sequenced part."

weekend chaos?

YouTube via snazelle
"i believe this is a chaotic oscillator i discovered this weekend
if people are interested maybe i can make a board available. this oscillator is highly controllable and almost all control positions seem to create areas of interest. also when fed into something like ian' fritz's wonderful T/G/T/S/H it can drive a vco and the "melodies" seem to be almost endless."

A screaming theme

YouTube via attorks

"A simple single 8 step sequence (c4 f3 c#4 f#3 f4 d3 c4 g3, tempo 80) drives the Synthesizers.com Modular. The Q150 transistor ladder filter is modulated with 2 MFM VCO's running a high frequency square wave on the 2 seperate frequency inputs on the Q150. SynthStrings are performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 (Chords Fm C Bbm Dm). The improvised screaming solo is performed by the Waldorf Q Keyboard. The Korg 900PS solo's are just the opposite of the Q's solo."

Frisco Audio Technology

"The ABC-1 has four knobs; Input Volume / Gain, Sample Rate, Bit Depth and Output Volume. It also features input control jacks for controlling the Sample Rate and Bit Depth parameters via CV or Expression pedal. Furthermore it has true bypass and can be run from a single 9V battery or a BOSS-compatible DC wall wart (center negative).

For detailed technical information, sounds and video, please go to our website.

From the ABC-1 manual:
The ABC-1, FAT Advanced Bit Crusher, is a device with many voices whose purpose is to transport us back in time to the birth of digital music, it will effectively give any audio plugged into it the distinct sound of 8 bits or less and of low sample rates. The ABC-1 is not designed to make your music sound melodious, pretty, or sweet, but in fact it's aural intentions are quite the opposite!

The effects produced by the ABC-1 are not limited to a single expression but range from howling mad distortions to ring modulator like sounds; and from murky, digital thunder to a shimmer of digital artifacts. By utilizing the Advanced Bit Crusher’s on-board Sample Rate Control and Bit Depth Control inputs the variations are practically endless, whether in live performance or in the studio. The control inputs can be connected either to an expression pedal or a CV (Control Voltage) source, the latter allowing for things like sequenced bit depth etc.

The Advanced Bit Crusher will not only work its magic effects on audio, but in fact can be applied to any small-signal voltage, including Control Voltages (CV). As a Control Voltage-processor, the ABC-1 produces numerous effects not unlike those of quantizers, random-voltage generators, and sample-and-hold effects.

The bit discrimination circuitry in the ABC-1 is quite different from other similar effects in that that bits can be turned down in volume rather then just turned on or off, the ABC-1 produces a totally unique sound due to this."

OCEAN ORBIT - DVD

YouTube via lastfastando.
"DVD with dmitry on vocoder. My friend Rehmat in NYC and I came up with this while talking about crazy NYC street vendors trying to sell DVD's and shouting out deals to to people"

via Mr. Array
"I'm the dancing fool behind the laptop, manning the vocoder and Traktor. My buddy Andy is on live synth, including an NES running a MIDINES cart! For live vocoding we use the Electro Harmonix Voice Box, which we got after seeing it on your site :-D

A lot of the interesting synth stuff is happening on the backing tracks. There's a lot of Andromeda on "DVD", for instance. "Wily Dragon" has a lot of MIDINES which is both being played live and on the backing track.

On the myspace page, the Forces cover has some Waldorf XT on it. Most of the tracks have at least some Yamaha Mo6 on them (which isn't all that exciting, haha). There's a new song which we hope to put up soon which uses nothing but the Waldorf XT, Andromeda, and MIDINES.

I haven't taken any of my synths out to live gigs yet, but I did just get a SID Station, which I hope to perform live with eventually. Mainly we're just trying to prevent having too much heavy gear to lug around. The pieces that do make it to live sets are the Motif Mo6 and the MIDINES, both of which are very light.

I posted a clip of the new SID Station here:

http://8bitcollective.com/music/Ocean+Orbit/Driving+at+90bpm+(SID+Station)/

We also have more tunes up here:

http://www.myspace.com/oceanorbit

We don't haven't put all of our tracks up on myspace yet though, as we're working with friends to get our vocals recorded and properly mixed (which is also why none of the songs on myspace have vocals as of yet)."

Note Beilfuss was mentioned in the Electronic Keyboard Reference Guide from 1984 - 1985.

via sequencer.de, via John:
"Even though the synthesizer has a whopping 93 keys, it is essentially two connected 4-octave synthesizers. I was given complete documentation, I’ll see what I can do to post more.

From what I was told, this synthesizer is a completed prototype, and has not yet been put into production."

via http://www.beilfusssynth.com:
"Unlike any analog or digital synthesizer's controls, the patented tone control consists of sixteen steps simply outlining the waveform as set by the Signal Controls you see at the left of the control panel. Similarly, the envelope and filter contour transients and their time intervals are also set by the Signal Controls for rhythms or extended notes. You may easily add prompted, parallel voicings, combining settings of both sides for complex notes. There are 32 controls and 142 pushbuttons for direct programming. Dedicated LED pushbuttons always read out their side of the full eight octave, split keyboard. Five octaves of transposition are possible."

Update via WD on the AH list: "Here's the patent, for anyone interested in reading about the "patented tone control": link (US Patent Number 4495846)"

Update: I sent email to the contact alias on site and received the reply further below, after the images.

"Step Synthesizer Functions

The Step Synthesizer is built around the unique Signal Controls on the left side of the instrument.
The sixteen slide controls, side by side, represent either the literal waveform, the envelope or filter contour curves (like ADSR’s), or the time intervals of the steps in the envelope and filter contour.
The circuitry is all digital, however the organization is based on analog synthesis.

The waveform values appear in the sixteen character LED readouts and may be adjusted while playing. For the envelope and filter contour, they may complete after the key is released or repeat as long as the key is held. Keyed rhythms may be input very simply. The time intervals, ranging 2ms to 2 sec, may be factored slower or faster. A stopwatch timer automatically divides for the equal intervals and enters the resulting values. Then, when altering individual time intervals, a constant sum may be maintained.

The Signal Controls may be moved any two together to set all values equal.

There are two identical instruments both sharing twenty voices and sixty-four programs. There is an alternate group (bank) of sixty-four. The eight octave keyboard is split between middle C and B.
The split point may be varied or floated. Four octaves of transposition are possible with key transposition or transpose rate control with programmed transposition setting. A full range pushbutton will automatically set the two transpositions to piano keyboard. The ergonomically positioned levers add up to an extra octave of transposition. There is key velocity, pitch, and aftertouch patching.

The 440 square inch control panel has dedicated LED pushbuttons and controls for both sides. The edit sections allow full 1 in 256 resolution adjustment of individual control settings of saved programs for both sides.

There may be up to ten voices in parallel with easily prompted editing of voice volumes and tunings. Voices may have the settings of the opposite side’s program selection. Voice reassignment modes consist of Chordal, Single Keyed, Unison, and overflow modes. There is a Legato Notes function.

Glide start and glide functions may be smooth or stepped, key release-ordered or two key overlap. Separate rise and fall controls may be set.

Programs are reset by a dedicated pushbutton. Programs are saved, inserted, deleted, or rotated in the group of sixty-four programs. Partial recalls of separate Signal Controls divisions, individual controls, and voicings are possible.

Almost all control values may be set by foot controls and some pushbuttons may by actuated by foot switches. There are program advance foot switches. The headphone jack has volume and separation controls.

MIDI has selective transmit and receive enables for Notes, Programs, Common, and Exclusive messages. System Exclusive saves the sixty-four program groups to computer or audio recorder.
Self diagnosis of circuit boards is included."
