TipTop Audio Z2040

via Gur via Tiptop Audio.
"We are happy to announce our next module in the Z series: The Z2040 A 24db 4-Pole Voltage Controlled Lowpass Filter, an implementation based on the original US patent of the SSM2040 filter chip used in the Prophet 5 Rev2 synthesizer. The Z2040 also adds a lot of extra features on top of the original 4-pole discrete OTA core allowing extra modulation capability, extended flexibility and control over this deep cut-off low pass filtering core. The Z2040 is capable of producing thick, overdriven grit as well as warm, smooth sweeps. The Z2040 will be available through Analogue Heaven and Schniders Beuro starting June 2009."

BugBrand Delay modulated at audio rates

YouTube via machinate
"Very VERY simple patch here - two oscillators from an MFB OSC-02 module;
One oscillator is going into one audio input of a BugBrand PRC1 PTdelay unit, the other is being amplified in a Doepfer a-119 and then fed into the Mod CV2 input. PTdelay straight to DAW, no post-processing.

This basically creates a patch where one oscillator is being modulated by another similar oscillator via an audio delay - modulating the delay time in this way creates timbres that are like oldskool FM, but with a twist of chorus/messed up reverb."

"New small company Frisco Audio Technology. The FAT ABC Bit Crusher pedal. WSG mini synth making a modulated low tone to start. Fooling w/ the bit depth and sample rate knobs. I like this one-it has a different quality then both the Bugbrand and Squarewave Parade crushers and has CV foot control for both knobs. This company is one to watch. http://www.friscoamps.com/"

A minimal theme

YouTube via attorks

"This was a very quick one. From the initial idea, which started with fiddeling around with the sequencer, it all took less than an hour and the video was in one take. The main 8 step sequence is coming from the Waldorf Q Keyboard; the Doepfer MAQ16/3 is synchronized to that. The Doepfer drives the Synthesizers.com Modular with the 2nd 8 step sequence you hear and the self-built Modular with the 3rd 8 step sequence which has a sort of Roland rhythmbox sound. Some simple improvised solo's on the Nord Lead 1 and the Korg 900PS completes this minimal theme."

Sound Lab jam 090505, by Pehr Meldert

YouTube via Pehr81
"This is me jamming on my two MFOS Sound Lab mini synths. They are connected to a dual rebote 2.5 digital delay. Around 3:22 an external MFOS 16 step sequencer is turned on. The gate goes to the lower SL and the CV to the upper SL. I have also connected the clock out to the upper SL gate in.

The sound is a little out of sync, but I'll work on that to the next upload."

Waldorf Largo will Ship in May

"Largo is arriving soon!
07/05/2009: The Largo Synthesizer will see the light of day within the merry month of May. The long awaited synthesizer software for Mac and PC is breathing and has already tried to jump out of its incubator. Largos sound engine was injected with all the notorious wavetables of the Microwave, the legendary Wave and also the Q series. The LFO is already rehearsing very complex steps and the filter drive screams as loud as only our little baby can. So be prepared!

ENTER THE MIND OF MOOG

Celebrating Bob’s 75th Birthday

May 21, 2009

The Orange Peel, Asheville, NC

"Enter the Mind of Moog will be a golden opportunity to experience a working version of the planned Moogseum as the Bob Moog Foundation will transform the Orange Peel into an educational sonic playground for all ages. Upon entering the venue, attendees will be immersed in an interactive experience guiding them through the work and life of synthesizer pioneer and innovator Bob Moog. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Foundation’s hallmark project, the Moogseum, to be located in Asheville, NC.

Interactive instrument-based exhibits will be set up to connect attendees to the unique sounds and interfaces that helped make the Moog name a legacy in the worlds of science, music and innovation. Highlights include a “Theremin Tour”, where visitors will be guided by Bob Moog Foundation volunteers to play the early electronic musical instrument in various audio configurations as well as see it used as a video mixing tool, the “Synthesizer Lounge”, comprised of a bay of synthesizers available for attendees to explore and the Moogerfooger Remix Station which will highlight the power of the the Moog signal processing tools. Attendees are encouraged to bring their iPods or other playback devices to remix original music through Moog equipment.

The Interactive Timeline will guide the viewer through specific eras of Moog’s career and document the evolution of the Bob Moog Foundation. The Bob Moog Foundation will unveil a Mini-Moogseum installation to be featured permanently at the Orange Peel. The Mini-Moogseum, a beautiful showcase crafted by Chris Perryman of Domus Aurea Woodworking, will house a small exhibit of the pioneer’s archives, tell the story of his impact on the world of music, highlight his connection to the Asheville community and feature a custom built theremin, designed by Bob’s former student and protege, Steve Dunnington."

SoundMatrix

"SoundMatrix is an iPhone application which you can use to create 16 note musical sequeces on your iPhone. Touch the matrix of cells to add notes to the sequence which will repeat indefinitely. This is best done thoughtfully one note at a time though swipes and "mutitouch" will work.

When you've created a masterwork, use the "Email" button to send it to your friends who will be able to load and play it in SoundMatrix or download the wave file using the link provided."

VICMOD Synth Night

"For a short period of time last night you could have been excused not knowing what century we were living in, what with Public Image Limited blasting out the bar speakers downstairs and upstairs, before the performance, The Human League’s Reproduction album was happily playing away followed by tracks by Morton Subotnick and Alvin Lucier. Plus the fact I could see 2 Korg MS20s a Roland MC202, EMS VCS3 and a Roland System 100M."

TR-808 Cowbell Clone w/ Mods

YouTube via EA78751
"read the full article:
http://ericarcher.net/devices/cowbell/

This was a design exercise. I'm experimenting with digitally-controlled analog circuitry + simple digital pattern generators.

There is a minimal digital sequencer onboard, controlling eight analog switches that activate "bends" to alter the pitch, filter, accent, and envelope.

The 808 cowbell is a cheezy sound, but its design is interesting to study because Roland engineers were masters of minimal analog synth design. They rolled this one up tight! ... with just 2 simple chips (MC14584 & TL072) and 4 transistors, the 808 cowbell contains two square wave oscillators, two VCAs, a triggered envelope generator, bandpass filter, and buffer amp. Nice one Roland... too bad it doesnt sound like a cowbell.
