Line6 MIDI MOBILIZER AND RIG REMOTE for the iPhone and iPod Touch

"Line 6 and D'Addario, the world's leading producer of musical instrument strings, drumheads, reeds and accessories, announced today the development of MIDI Mobilizer™, a new portable MIDI interface, and Planet Waves® Rig Remote™, new iPhone™ software that will enable guitarists to control Line 6 guitars and amplifiers via Apple® iPhone and iPod® touch.

Marcus Ryle, Line 6 co-founder and SVP of research and development, demonstrated a prototype at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). He adjusted the tone of a Vetta™ II digital modeling amplifier and changed the tuning of a Variax® digital modeling guitar from the palm of his hand. 'With the MIDI Mobilizer,' he remarked, 'the iPhone becomes the most portable and versatile editor and tone storage device for your Line 6 gear. Finding the perfect tone has never been easier.'"

http://line6.com/news/general/840 (more info)

In this post Gizmodo makes it sound like you can plug your instrument directly into your iPhone to process audio real time. Everything I'm seeing on the Line 6 site makes it sound like the iPhone acts as a remote control to their hardware which does the actual processing. If anyone knows more, feel free to comment.

Moog Voyager RME Free Drum Sample Set

via http://signaltonoize.com/ where you'll find the sample set and an audio demo.
"The Minimoog Voyager RME is an analog waveform sculpting masterpiece, especially with the add-on CV breakouts. Unlike many classic analog drum machines, the Voyager with its dual filters can create wonderful stereo imagery. I’ve taken the time to program detailed percussive patches & from these i’m creating sample sets. This is the 1st “Moog Drum One” Drum Rack for Ableton Live 8."

The XILS 3

"The XILS 3 is a virtual instrument based on the of the architecture of a classic matrix based modular synthesizer. Matrix connection brings modularity and sound design to a new dimension. More than 450 connections (audio signal, controls signal, trig signals) are available on the XILS 3, much more than any other type of modular synthesizer!"

The Ãœberorgan by Tim Hawkinson

via Cynthia

"The audio harmonics shape the actual form of the blown plastic balloons!

These are like three-dimensional envelope generators..."

You can find more info at http://www.gardendome.com/uberorgan/Uberorgan.html
"Tim describes it as a giant self-playing reed organ. Located in the museum's largest gallery, 300 feet long. Twelve large reservoir balloons are collectors of pressurized air that is computer regulated into the reed - resonator assemblies from whence comes endless varieties of periodic low tones. The reeds are electronically controlled by a player console which acts like a player piano with a 250 ft long loop of mylar painted with dots and dashes that triggers light sensitive switches...."

Triadex Muse Digital Synthesizer

via this auction

"This is an incredible opportunity to purchase a rare piece of history.

According to synthmuseum.com, "This unique machine [Triadex Muse] is regarded by some as the first digital musical instrument. Designed by Edward Fredkin and Marvin Minsky at MIT, the Muse is an algorithmic music generator."

Engadget writes "[The Triadex Muse] had impeccable geek credentials. It was designed by two MIT professors, Marvin Minsky and Edward Fredkin. At the time, Minsky was moonlighting on the set of 2001 A Space Odyssey, teaching Stanley Kubrick about Artificial Intelligence as he created Hal."

"The Muse even had an even rarer accessory, the Light Show, which flashed coloured lights in time to the music... Only 280 units were ever manufactured. Unlike vintage analog synths, a Muse won't generate a fat bassline for a hip hop record, but they are very collectable."

This particular Tridex Muse is in good condition. There is a small scuff mark on the stainless steel front near the Muse logo. A control toggle switch is imperfect and loose, and will not stay in the 'down' position. Besides these issues, the wood is in superb condition, as are the stainless steel face and sides. The sound works perfectly as does the light show.

SPECS: Serial number: 00731-113. AC 115-125v. 60 CPS. Model: Muse 01"

For more information visit pixelh8.co.uk

Pixelh8s most recent work Obsolete [available on iTunes] is a audio and visual study of the people, machines, history of The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley Park and looks closely at the themes of mathematics, logic, code-breaking and enciphering. The project was funded by the PRS Foundations new music award and commissioned by The National Museum of Computing.

The music itself is composed using some of the oldest and rarest computers in the world such as the WWII code-breaking machine Colossus Mark 2 Rebuild, and the 1960s Elliott 803 largely used for mathematics and some of the more commonplace machines such as the BBC Micro. With over thirty machines studied and utilised within the music, it is a combination of both sounds from the internal sound chips and the external electro-mechanical sounds. In addition to this, the piece also utilises such items as the early non-electrical mechanical adding machines.

The project was comprised of twelves pieces of music and accompanying visuals and culminated in two performances at the prestigious Bletchley Park Mansion on March 20th and 21st, 2009.

Acxel2 Website

Update: Unfortunately, the Acxel2 project was cancelled in January of 2011 due to lack of funding:

"Formally Idarca-Audio is bankrupted, not for technical reasons but for critical investment that never happened.

We have working unit. We currently work to revive the project, in short to get an investment in a new corporation, complete the certifications and build new units,

Thank you for your interest."

The new Acxel2 website is up.
"Acxel2 is a new upgradeable multi-synthesis and multi-timbral modular synthesizer offering: Additive synthesis, Re-synthesis, Expanded synthesis and Analog synthesis. Acxel2 introduces its native analysis synthesis mode: the Acxelink®.

All Acxel2 musical instruments can be used with any DAW (Pro Tools, Cakewalk, Cubase, Steinberg, Logic, etc.), can operate under Apple or Windows platform and can be used as "slave" or "master" with any MIDI or audio analog entry (keyboard, guitar, microphone, etc ...).

All our products incorporate the Acxel2 re-programmable microprocessor RPP renowned for its extreme reliability and execution speed, dramatically superior to any DSP chips currently available on the market.

Through synthesis and processing of native Acxel2, processing options and sound changes are virtually unlimited. The Acxel2 can emulate any synthesis known modes or original combinations of synthesis modes, effects and signal processing, modification in sounds envelope or articulation ... all in real time!" Be sure to see the official Acxel2 website for more.

If you are unfamiliar with the history of the original Acxel Resynthesizer see these posts. Be sure to scroll when you get there for video and more. This is big news in the synth community.

Update via iDARCA Audio on the new Axcel2. The following actually came in with the image fo the Axcel2 rack above. I wanted to clear it with iDARCA before posting. Note the red below: "Here is a preview of the STUDIO Model that we are working on, 2U, the RACK front panel will also be very close to it (Back panel has different version RACK depending on options – Analog, Digital). The Grapher (2 versions) is under design, we expect the LCD version available soon in fall and LED Matrix (inspired from the Acxel1 with 24 bits colors, multitouch and better resolution than the original Acxel grapher) to be availble in the End of the year.

The CARD version (Home Studios) is actually under tests, the control software too. In fact all system share same base software that runs into MAC and PC."

Ensoniq FIZMO transwave synthesizer

YouTube via bbow73

"For an ebay auction. Machinedrum in background. This is a very fun synth to tweak, it always ends up in strange unexpected places. All the knobs make it look like a virtual analog, but it's more like a wavetable synth, but still very different (but just as gratifying) as a virtual analog."

via this auction

"For those of you who are curious, then I have to say that the Fizmo is very different from Waldorf style wavetable synthesizers. I might go as far as to say that it is esoteric. You could spend a good deal of time programing a patch, make one turn of the transwaves and have an entirely different sound on your hands. Some of the transwaves are non-musical, and the harmonics will animate is a very strange way. I thought that this was going to be a good alternative to a Microwave XT, it is a very different animal. To further complicate things the effects section is based off of the DP-4 processor which introduces the ability to integrate effects into the modulation matrix, this synth has a pretty steep learning curve. I admit that I bit off more than I could chew with this synth. Consider yourself warned, all sales are final. Having said all of that, the thing sounds beautiful. The swirling and transforming textures are organic and alien at the same time. I've never heard anything else like it. In the video I tried to demonstrate how quickly a sound could transform in dramatically bizarre directions, but the mic on my camera is small, and most of the base response was not captured, but I assure you, this thing will shake your windows. **The Fizmo has been criticized by based on the voltage regulator and a processing delay from the real time controls. I have not observed either of these" Which means if you pick this one up you better take care of it. See this article on Carbon111 for more info on the Fizmo regulator fix.
