Yellow Casio DG-20 MIDI Guitar Synth Controller

via this auction

"The Casio DG-20 is a classic 80's guitar synth and MIDI controller. It has built in PCM sounds, a rhythm drum machine and playable drum pads. You can use it as a standalone electronic guitar and/or as a MIDI controller to control and play other MIDI devices such as synthesizers, synth/sound modules, tone generators etc.

It has adjustable tempo, transpose and tuning with separate guitar and rhythm volume controls.

It also has a built in speaker plus a headphone socket and an audio output jack for connecting to an amp or external speaker.

About This DG-20
This DG-20 has been refinished on the front side in a cute and fresh bright yellow and has had a new DG-20 decal applied. It looks very cool and unique as the DG guitars are usually only ever seen in dark gray."

Rhodes through the TimewARP 2600

YouTube via joomzb
"The TimewARP 2600 from Wayoutware is a great emulation of the ARP 2600 analog synth. It sounds great when used to process external audio - in this case the Fender Rhodes sound from the excellent MrRay73 from GenuineSoundware (oh, and the Fender Twin VST). The TimewARP 2600 is used here to provide filtering, wah, tremelo, ring modulation, audio rate filter modulation, envelope following... It's all controlled from the Novation Nocturn - very easy and intuitive for live use. Sorry, no real music here, just noodling and having fun."

duo pantoMorf - improvisation

YouTube via otoskope
"duo pantoMorf is a Swedish electronic free impro duo and research project. Beginning in 2006, they have actively developed new ways of controlling electronic sound. The video shows an improvisation on two instances of the instrument "the expressure pad", which has become their main performance instrument. Based on a completely novel way of mapping gesture sound, it allows enormous timberal flexibility and expressive fingertip control at the same time. Both members have a background as musicians on traditiona instruments, and this duo represents is one of the results of their efforts in bringing back musicianship into electronic music, that is, to be able to play electronic sounds as directly as acoustic instruments. The dogmas are: If we lift our hands, the instrument goes silent. That means, there are no pre-programmed processes, and every sound nuance corresponds to a physical gesture from the musician.

duo pantoMorf have performed in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, USA and Canada. Further tours are planned, for Portugal (October 2009) and USA (March 2010).

Korg Ds-10 Sci-Fi Fx Patch - Pulse Coil Weaponry

YouTube via ChrisLody

It's a double layered patch so uses both of the synhts at once.
That's about it.
Cheers."

No-longer-accidental Polysynth

YouTube via MusicMiK. follow-up to this post. Be sure to see the second vid below.
"Day #2 of this. Another 4 hours or so. Cleaning up the breadboard with immediately creating new chaos on the clean surface. But now, i can put everything of the voice onto it.
The goal is to have the complete synth, reduced to 1 voice, but the rest as in the 8-voice version, on the breadboard before soldering everything together. This is how development is done most efficiently, in my eyes. It's just a bit complicated to get everything on a breadboard, if the circuits get a bit more complicated.

Anyway - i hope, you like it, the project now has a name - PolyMiK (even if the MonoMiK and the MiK-one still are incomplete :), and i'm looking forward to get good progress in this thing."

PolyMiK breadboard sound demo

"Okay. Added the ring modulator and the OTAs for feedback (resonance) and the VCA.
Things to do - some tricks for offset handling of the multiplexed exponential converter, will give a bunch of trimpots i think.
Need to make sure that i have enough buffer caps for the power, as i have some sync effects i don't want, but all in all, the result is quite okay for less than 12 hours i spent up to now.
More to follow the next weekends.

By the way - in the last video, i forgot the filter capacitors. Thanks to all those stray capacitance of a breadboad, it worked anyway :)"

Circuit Bent Casio SK-5 with CGS Synthacon Filter

YouTube via thenervoussquirrel
"This was made for Colin Cloughley, creator of fine industrial techno.

Knobs, L-R: keyboard filter mode select (LP, BP, HP), cutoff, resonance, LED sensitivity, instrument pitch, drum pitch.

Sockets L-R: filter control voltage in, external lowpass in, bandpass in, highpass in, keyboard out, keyboard out via filter.

The switches in the centre connect the circuit bent modifications.

The video contains sounds generated by the SK-5 alone, except for the very last clip where the filter is being modulated by an external LFO.

The filter was made from Ken Stone's Synthacon VCF schematic. Please visit Ken's amazing website for an incredible collection of useful information, and PCBs for sale:
