Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer/Drum Machine

via this auction

"I was a founding member of an obscure synth pop band formed in Chicago in 1981 called 'Scarlet Architect,' which lasted only about a year and a half. During that time, we put out a single vinyl EP with four songs, which is fairly hard to find. Only 1,000 copies of the EP were ever pressed. This machine was used on that EP. We also recorded a handful of unreleased songs using this machine. In synth pop music circles, two of the songs from the EP are sort of well known - "Rose Grey" and "Falls Away." "Rose Grey" made it to No. 1 on a dance club music chart for a short stay in 1982. We also used this machine when we played live, and triggered a Roland TB-303 and a Sequential Circuits Pro-1 from it."

Teisco Polyphonic Synthesizer SX-400

via this auction

Googlish translation:
"According to the online museum:
The synthesizer is 4 voice polyphony playable, and still there is a dual mono mode. The somewhat rauschig but good sounding ensemble effect ... The CV-gate facilities and a dynamic pressure of the keyboard make the rare vintage darling even today the device makes it a good sound and fun ... The predecessor of the Kawai Teisco device was once produced direct product competitors in the market segment Roland Jupiter 4th .. The list price was at that time ca.4400-DM."

Crumar Bit One analog vintage synth with Alternate Panel

via this auction

"One Italian synth from 1984/85 with midi and touch response, 2 dco's / 1 vcf / 1 vca / 2 eg's / 2 lfo's per voice, 6 note polyphonic, oscillator stack mode (2 voice poly), detune slider, designed by the guy who designed the Elka Synthex and it has a warm, silky sound. The notes are output to left and right so you get this quirky stereo effect with oscillators being routed to either left or right! However the white noise option does not work and sometimes there is a very faint white noise coming through on some notes. While it is warming up for the first 30 minutes there are the occasional faint crackly noises, the synth was serviced by a technician who replaced the capacitors in the power supply, but it could probably do with some more caps replacing on the sound board but not really necessary. I don't think the guy specialised in analog synths. Having said this, once it warms up, the synth is mostly free of any popping noises (check out the demo) and is very stable due to it's digitally controlled oscillators. All the buttons and controls work fine (apart from the white noise)."

Note the parameter mapping compared to this one. Anyone know more about this alternate panel?

"This is the trailer for the forthcoming documentary ‘Totally Wired’. Enjoy!" "A documentary film about Andreas Schneider's infamous 'Schneider's Buero' [Schneidersbuero], the boutique electronic musical instrument shop in Berlin. 'Totally Wired' explores one man's electric evangelism, and the interface he has built to connect analogue instrument inventors with their end-users. The film features an informed selection of inventors and artists alike, including Dieter Doepfer, Junior Boys, Ken MacBeth, Anthony Rother, Jessica Rylan, Daniel Miller, Wowa Cwejmann, Per Salzwedel, Ricardo Villalobos, Magda, Marc Houle and many more." http://totallywired.tumblr.com/ via wire to the ear. previously posted

Wendy playing the Optigan Polka disc

"Yesterday...as in Saturday me and Wendy recorded some new and fresh stuff for a Canadian Danceproduction. By new and fresh I of course mean old and scratchy. Most of the day was spended rummaging around Mellotron tapes, Optigan discs and vinyl. Everything for the quest of the perfect noise and loop. A lot of laughs and a great lunch at Sundbybergs number one place for good Gyoza, Daichii.

This little snippet is of the wondrous Wendy playing My Optigan with the very elusive Polka disc in it.

If you are curious to learn more about Wendy she is of course on Myspace and if you want to find out more about the studio please mumble by www.roth-handle.nu

Thanks for watching,

Mattias"

ARP 2600 restoration completed

YouTube via MusicMiK. follow-up to this post
"The last part of the ARP 2600 restoration video series.

Fixing the keyboard was the harder part of this restoration, i completely took it apart, cleaned everything, removed some rust, replaced the bushings and adjusted everything. Works quite fine now.

What you don't see in the video - i added a small circuit as a CV/Gate interface, which emulates the keyboard, so you can still use the portamento on your CV input and the trigger behaviour is exactly the same as with the original keyboard. This interface accepts TTL gate signals, so no problem with the 15V, you usually need on the ARP 2600. Schematics and layout will be published on mik-music.org after some minor corrections.

The whole restoration took about 50 hours of work and i really wouldn't do it again - except on my own 2600, if i ever get one :) Sure, it could have been done faster, but the motivation for this was curiosity and the challenge to get this done as good as possible :)"
