Restoring an analog synth part 2

Restoring an analog synth part 2 from amsonx on Vimeo.

"This is the audio version plus some shot of the magazine with synth schemes (audio stop at 1.15)" part 1 here

Update: I asked ams on the forum if he had more info on this DIY synth. He replied with the following: "Yes, i've got all the informations concerning the synth structure, though i'm currently scanning them in order to post them. Im going to post them here on this forum as soon as they'll be ready.

As far as the the magazine is concerned it was a DIY electronic publication named 'Nuova Elettronica' that was very popular in the seventies in Italy. The magazine still exists though and is currently publishing all kind of kit schemes as well as selling the PCB for these kits. Here is the link to their site:

http://www.nuovaelettronica.it/

We were lucky enough to trace back the magazine copies with the different modules schemes in a old and dusty electronic shop...

Thanks a lot for publishing this stuff

Cheers,
Diego [amsonx]"

Studio Electronics Midi MiniMoog Rack

via this auction

"Years ago, Studio Electronics used to have people send them their Minimoog so they could turn it into a rackmounted MIDIMoog - they'd remove the circuit boards and toss the chassis. Great idea at the time I guess, but this definitely reduced the number of intact Minimoogs out there. So finally - maybe because they realized how horribly destructive this was - or maybe because they ran out of victims - or maybe for none of those reasons :) - they decided to faithfully reproduce the circuitry inside the Minimoog rather than destroying more beautiful instruments. They called this the MIDIMini, and that's what you see here. For all practical purposes, this is a beautiful 4 space rackmounted Minimoog with some really really useful improvements over the original Mini. We feel it's better than a Minimoog also because it's newer and therefore generally much more reliable than most neglected vintage Mini's out there that are around 20 years older. Not only does the MIDI MINI fit in a much smaller space and weigh a lot less than the original Mini - It's also got MIDI built in. That's right - no need to fuss with a MIDI to CV convertor and figure out how to hook it up to that crazy S trigger connector thingy. But not only does it have MIDI... it also responds to aftertouch and velocity, pitch bend and modulation wheel. It's also got an extra LFO for vibrato, so you don't have to tie up the 3rd oscillator for this as you would on a stock Mini Moog. AND it's also got oscillator sync, which can be swept by an envelope generator for that Cars distorted guitarish lead sound everyone knows and loves! :) It's also got switchable note priority modes. This unit makes a nice alternative to an original Minimoog due to its improvements, portable package and greater reliability. This unit was recently serviced by Rogue Music in Manhatan and is in perfect working order."

Kawai K5m

via this auction

"16 note polyphony, 16 channel multitimberal. Has sustain and volume pedal inputs as well as a secondary controller pedal input. The K-5m is the rack-mount version of the K-5 so it doesn't have the pitchbend or mod wheels but will respond to them, as well as to a second modwheel if your controller keyboard has one. Stores a lot of presets on board and also on a RAM card."

Polivoks POLYVOX Analog Synthesizer

via this auction
"Duophonic analog synthesizer, with a 49-note (F-E) keyboard. It features two VCOs, a noise generator, one LFO, a filter (low-pass and bandpass), and two ADSR envelope generators. VCO1 can be cross-modulated by VCO2. Each ADSR can be switched to auto-trigger, each with independent rates. The sound is quite rich and somewhat harsh and aggressive. This is more of a space-synth. You can be sure that you will have never heard the sounds this one can produce. It sounds like these old Yamaha CS-30's, but then fat filters like in Moogs. Produced in 1980x.

The supply voltage - 220-230V/50Hz. For use with 110/127V, a voltage converter is necessary. POLIVOKS has 5-DIN output connections (adapter to 1/4 jack included). No midi, no CV/Gate are installed. Dimensions - 780x490x195mm Weight of synth only - 23.00 kg (WITH packing)"

Giant LED board

YouTube via SenorBon
"We built a giant LED board, about 6.5x6.5 feet, with 900 LEDs using ping-pong balls as diffusers. It can play Conway's Game of Life, Pong, and Sketch mode that allows you to create a starting pattern for Life. We output board state information to a MIDI board that allows us to make music based on what is displayed. This gets interesting with Life, creating minimalist generative music.

Joy Division Music Video BBC Version New 16:9 Version

YouTube via jonathanbeamish. ARP OMNI through a Melos DE1 analogue echo according to sweep in this prior post. Video description:
"Here is the new HQ 16:9 version Thanks to everyone who watched and commented on earlier version. A video by Jonathan Beamish for the earliest recorded version of the song produced as a
John Peel Session for the BBC in 1979.
The original band footage is a mixture of a performance video shot by the band for the single release (minus the damaged shots) and live concert excerpts from Plank, Brussels and the Apollo, Manchester. .
We needed to do some tricky retiming and editing to sync it up with the footage which is from completely different versions of the song.
Odd to discover that much of the original performance video done for the single release wasn't edited properly with much of the shots of the band playing not cut accurately to the audio"
