Necrophagy Tour

YouTube via thedeepelement.

NSFW First off, there are some dldos at 1:45 - 1:52 and a somewhat unidentifiable bush and peen profile at 3:07 - 3:16, so consider yourself warned. The rest, aside from some urinating in public, appears to be safe. The stuff my eyes are exposed to to keep you safe... That said, there's some misc synth spotting throughout, synth cats and dogs!, but the good stuff [massive synth gear] comes in at 6:04 on. Too much to even label, but considering both Mike Brown of Livewire, Steve of Monorocket, and Gur of Tiptop Audio make an appearance, I'll give them the labels, and there's a Synergy DK in there. Also the Halloween... Some notes via Gur of Tiptop Audio: "Some cool videos from the Trash Audio synth gathering in LA last week with Mike Brown, Steve, my self, Surachai and few other musicians and Alessandro Cortini playing the Z-DSP, starting at minute 6:54"

PERCUSSA Introduces MODULOR and expands AudioCubes product range

The official press release for MODULOR [prevoiusly posted].

"Simple but powerful modular sequencing software, tightly integrated with hands-on AudioCubes, helps you listen, focus and develop unique ideas

Erpe-Mere, Belgium, October 28th, 2009 – PERCUSSA announces Modulor for AudioCubes, a simple but powerful software application that lets you host your favourite software instruments (VSTs or AudioUnits) and quickly develop musical ideas.

The MODULOR software and AudioCubes hardware work with your existing MIDI controller and professional sound interface (ASIO or CoreAudio), and becomes the center of the music making and improvisation process, where MIDI information is recorded, looped, routed and processed, driving a rack of your favourite software instruments.

AudioCubes become an intuitive, direct, hands-on interface to record, vary, process and assemble the components of your music: loops can be easily assembled by putting their physical representations together, multiple instrument parameters can be controlled directly by hand gestures, sensed by fast and accurate optical technology, and high-intensity full-colour RGB LED lighting can be used for colour-coding recordings and MIDI effects.

Over a year in development, MODULOR expands on proven loop-based recording and improvisation concepts, by offering access to musical data through a physical interface, AudioCubes, in which units of musical data are represented by beautifuly designed physical objects. Working with units of information becomes as simple, inspiring and satisfying as working with their physical representation.

In MODULOR, bringing a loop into the mix is a matter of placing an AudioCube in the network. Taking a loop out is done by removing a cube. Putting together various loops to build up unique musical ideas is a matter of putting cubes physically together. You can easily explore how the parts you recorded can be combined to create many unique musical ideas, using the AudioCubes hands-on hardware interface. Assign colours to cubes to help you remember which part of the music goes where. Map colours to keys you’ve used while recording the loops, so you know you’ll always be in key when you bring cubes of the same colour together.

Besides being a powerful tool for recording and production, MODULOR offers great potential for advanced composers who wish to process and generate MIDI information: through the AudioCubes interface, MIDI effects, such as an arpeggiator, echo, transposer and chord generator, can be combined to create complex processing chains, simply by combining the physical objects representing the effects. An infinite number of effects can be built this way, generating unique variations of the initial MIDI recordings or live input.

Rather than trying to offer a large amount of features, with a cluttered piece of software as the result, Percussa's philosophy with MODULOR was to develop a piece of software that handles one specific task very well: development of new music. This facilitates the creative process, lets you spend less time with the computer, and lets you listen and focus more on your work.

AudioCubes hardware connects directly with MODULOR, without needing drivers. The high-speed USB connection with custom protocol delivers messages with better speed and accuracy than MIDI, through its 1kHz update rate and 10-bit resolution. The way the hardware and software integrate is identical on Mac and Windows, and plugging and unplugging hardware while the software is running is no problem, requiring no software or system restart. This is especially convenient when using MODULOR in live situations. MODULOR offers all functions on a single screen GUI layout with central workspace, so there are no complicated menus to browse or hard-to-reach functions while you're working.

AudioCubes sensors can be mapped easily to software instrument parameters in MODULOR - up to 4 per cube, which gives you access to a 4-dimensional parameter space, and to great sonic results, which are hard to reach with conventional knob-boxes.

MODULOR uses a high quality mixing section internally for its VST/AudioUnit instrument rack, and supports ASIO and CoreAudio interfaces, giving you the same audio quality as if you would run the instruments in your DAW software. Using MODULOR with your existing DAW is no problem - there is a MIDI export function which lets you export the ideas you developed as multi-track MIDI files, and easily load them into popular DAW software.

PERCUSSA recommends to use MODULOR with 4 or more AudioCubes, and has introduced a convenient 6 and 8 AudioCube set simultaneously with the release of MODULOR. These new AudioCube packages offer a significant discount over buying multiple sets of AudioCubes. When used with MODULOR, AudioCubes make a powerful and unique system for composition, music production, and live performance.

And for fun...

"A while ago I experimented with making some mildly scary music. And I decided to make a little video to go with it. The weird colours that some of the pictures have is a result of using a set of coloured filters that I bought many years ago to my old film camera. But I thought they suited the purpose - after all halloween is a quite colourfull and at the same time dark occation.

The music is played on Rhytm Ace drum machine, Yamaha HE-8 organ with CVS-10 expander, Roland JX-8P synthesizer and the little Music Time 300 toy keyboard."

MOOG MG-1 Mono/Poly Analog Synth

via this auction

"This MG-1 has had the foam removed from the interior, so there is no danger of the foam melting and ruining the sliders and switches. The MM5823N six-stage divider chip in the Poly section has been replaced with a new more reliable version, as the old ones were very prone to failing. All sliders and switches operate accurately and smoothly, and all oscillators are very stable."

MusiConics BassMate II Analog Bass Synthesizer Pedals SN B-1938

via this auction

"MusiConics BassMate II analog bass synthesizer pedals. These units are exremely rare, this is the second set I've ever seen, and certainly as clean as you're likely to find.
Very comparable to the Crumar CPB-1 pedals, only lighter and more compact.
Killer analog bass, both voices can be activated at the same time with variable attack and decay. Fully tested, and the only issues found are: LED for 8" is a little weak, and the zipper on the leather case is in need of repair."

Maestro Parametric Filter Guitar Synth Pedal

via this auction

"It's a cool filter for overall voicing of any sound source.
It's a darned wicked overdrive for any sound source (and guitar in particular).
It's a Moog synth filter in a pedal format."

Anyone confirm this? I know the Maestro USS-1 was designed by Tom Oberheim. There is also the Maestro Ring Modulator, which "was part of the 'Analog synthesizer' module that Bob Moog, Tom Oberheim and the folks at ARP worked on in the 70s."

"Andromeda MK-1 and MK-2 minimal drum machine prototypes with hand cut cardstock enclosures.

The enclosure is actually an afterthought. I added it to address any concerns about the bare board, to make it easier to put the device in your pocket, and to offer six surfaces for your artwork. Although as a friend pointed out, the enclosure covers up the surface bend /body contact points inside. So its just an option.

This video demonstrates different ways to use/abuse the infrared wireless signals that keep the instruments synchronized. The unit on the far left is the master clock.

Innerclock Systems Sync-Lock

YouTube via innerclock2004 Innerclock Systems
"Demo showing Ableton Live driving Roland TB-303 and Roland MV-8000 via simultaneous Midi Clock and Din Sync from the Sync-Lock and an FA-101 Soundcard. The Audio Loop playing in Live is identical to the pattern playing from the MV-8000 itself. There is an audio click in Live as a reference so you can hear the Audio Loop in Sync with the grid and you can hear the MV-8000 running off Midi Clock phase when they play together. The TB-303 is in sync with both perfectly. Radical tempo changes do not compromise the sync. The Sync-Gen plug-in allows clock swing which is passed on to the Midi Clock, Din Sync and Analogue Trigger outputs from the Sync-Lock feeding the MV-8000 and the TB-303."

Taurus 3 Project Update

"First, thanks to all of you who have placed your faith in us with your many orders for this exceptional and historical product. Here’s where we are and what you can expect.

All the mechanical details have been completed. We are waiting final qualification samples and then we will be ready to release the production order for sheet metal, extrusions, pedal board, wood, push buttons, foot wheels, and the various other mechanical components that make up the Taurus 3.

All the PCB’s have been designed; the sound engine, the controller board, the user interface, the Input/Output board, the footwheel sensor boards, and various other smaller boards that make the Taurus 3 work. The sound engine is really incredible. It delivers on all levels and I am sure that you will all be amazed and delighted.

We expect this all to come together in December and we will START shipping then. Shipments will be made to those customers who helped launch the product with their deposits late last year. It will take time to work through the 600+ orders we have. So please be patient. We expect to be able to produce a small quantity in December and ramp-up from there. If you order was toward the backend of our initial offer you will not see your units until first quarter of next year. Please be patient with us. Each one is hand-built and thoroughly tested and that takes time.

As for the many who have questioned, ‘what’s it look like?’ We will release pictures when we are ready to ship.

Ok, thanks again for your faith and your patience. We are close but it will be worth the wait.
