Sequentix MIDIBass 303 Mark II

"The MIDIBass 303 is the ultimate MIDI retrofit for the classic Roland TB-303.

As you'd expect, MIDIBass allows the 303 synth section to be controlled by any MIDI keyboard or sequencer.
And now the Mark II version adds MIDI control over filter cutoff.

More significantly, MIDIBass transmits the notes from the 303's internal sequencer via MIDI - giving you the ability to capture the unique quality of patterns created through the TB user-interface.
This is ideal for further editing or chaining patterns on a PC or hardware sequencer, pattern backup, or doubling-up the 303 sound with another synth."

via Sequentix where you can find more info.

The following is a video featuring a MIDIBass 303 sent in via Nath.

Warning: the first 15 seconds and closing shot of the following video has a face with the eyes photoshopped out and bload around them. Standard horror film quality. If your sensitive to this sort of thing, skip it.

Null Object - To Not Be Where You Want To

YouTube via nathnullobject
"This track was written live using my circuit bent midibass TB303 and a circuit bent Casio CT-470 midi keyboard.

The Casio drum machine is supplying the beats and the midi sync to the 303 which is then playing a riff and returning midi to the Casio where it is playing the riff also.

The whole thing was recorded live into my DAW and some tight echo and reverb effects applied.

While this was happening, a Ninja scaled the building next door and dropped a throwing star. I went outside and retrieved it. Now I don't know what to do with It. I cant realistically take it to the cops as they may not believe my story. The only evidence that this happened is this recording and I dont think it will hold up in court."

GForce Software Vintage Synth Trump Cards

I actually posted about these way back in 2005. Mark spotted them on the GForce site and sent the link in. I thought I'd put a new post up and capture the list of synths and description for the archives. BTW, also check out this post for some Roland info cards.

"Vintage Synth Trumps

This is Vintage Synth Trumps, a deadly serious card game for vintage synth enthusiasts featuring 52 classic instruments. Test your knowledge and settle those arguments once and for all with the synth-spotter's equivalent of arm-wrestling.

Can you use your skill and judgment to win the whole pack from your opponents and become the undisputed champion of vintage synth wisdom?

Playing is easy. Simply divide the cards between the number of players before taking it in turns to read aloud a statistic from your card.

For example, "Korg PS3300 - Collectability = 5 out of 5". Everyone then compares the card on the top of their hand and the highest scoring instrument in that category wins that round. The person who gains all the cards wins.

So next time your kids pester you for a card game, extract revenge with Vintage Synth Trumps (not available from any good department stores near you).

The perfect kitsch gift for trade shows, long flights, forum banter, pub quizzes, train journeys and all round anorak type showing-off.

Buy your pack of Vintage Synth Trumps for only £7.95 (price includes first class postage, other methods available)

circuit bent yamaha pss790 vector synth. drum kit, basic 8 track sequencer, auto accompainments,preset rhythms.the onboard joystick can vector through 4 assignable voices. also multi-timbral over midi. preset tone module although if you want to synthesize the tone that is what the modifcations are for. 24 point patch bay. 1 point dedicated to self composition and can be connected through potentiometer before patch bay. it controls the rate and depth of glitches continously until it sustains the current sound. glitches will often reconfigure the vector with new voices, create new sounds and textures, and give alot of random results which can be self composed or resynthesized to be controlled by the keyboard, onboard or outboard sequences, or external midi control.4 points are switchable before main patch bay. lfo and overall continous pitch control via clock substituion.

vector synths are primarily known for their evolving textures and deep sounds and this is pretty much the most unusual one of them all (the most basic vector synth prior to modifcations) if not somewhat limited by the general midi implementation.

3 part demo. all sounds are unprocessed coming directly from the keyboard's onboard speakers recorded via camera's onboard mics. because of it's seemingly endless sound possiblities this demo is only a small sample of it's capabilities."

SEQUENTIAL CIRCUITS Prelude

via this auction

"Sequential Circuits Prelude 49 Key Synthesizer. Made in Italy in 1982.
The Prelude is a 4-section orchestral synthesizer consisting of Piano, Organ, Brass and String sections. Like many other similar 4-section synths of this type, all 49 keys will play simultaneously for 49-note polyphony. Two of the sections can be played at the same time. Though editability and storage are limited, it has an on-board chorus/flanger effect as well as a 7-band equalizer. The string sounds are the best feature of the Prelude, and the on-board effects and EQ are great for thickening and modulating the string sound beyond the scope of traditional orchestral sounds. The Prelude has a very appealing and intuitive Sequential-esque layout and appearance and is definitely one of the finest orchestral-type multitimbral synths among others in its class.
* Polyphony - 49 voices
* Oscillators - 1 per voice
* Effects - Chorus / Flanger
* Keyboard - 49 keys
* Control - No MIDI

Self Oscillating Blofeld Filters

Self Oscillating Blofeld Filters by g64
"WARNING!!!: this demo might contain some extreme frequencies so keep your volume low

again, blofeld only, no EQ or FX or post editing*
actually, there's not even any oscillators!!!
this demo only uses the blofelds filters with the resonance turned up to about 127
I play around with the internal overdrive and added the preset chorus and reverb settings for atmosphere

(NOTE:Trying this yourself may sound different with other mixers because of the extreme settings.
I used a mackie U420.)
*I did slice out areas of long silence where i was trying out different filter types, it didn't seem to work with the comb filters"

Innerclock Systems Sync-Lock MPC-3000 Hardware Sync

YouTube via innerclock2004

"In this Video you see the AKAI MPC-3000 as Hardware Sync Master showing an application for the Sync-Lock in a non-computer based setup. Two tracks are created in the MPC-3000. Track 1 has the Sync-Lock [Pulse] sample loaded and recorded quantized at 64 Triplets which equates to 24ppq. Track 2 has a single sample at the start of Bar 1. These two pulse samples are routed to Direct Outputs 1 and 2 of the MPC-3000 respectively and then the outputs connected to the inputs of the Sync-Lock. Din Sync from the Sync-Lock drives a Roland TB-303 and the Midi Clock drives a midi pattern in an MV-8000. The Click you hear at the start of the video is a Quarter Note Quantized Click from the MPC itself as a reference. Next the TB-303 is turned up followed by the Roland MV-8000 pattern and then a direct feed from the Sync-Lock Analogue Trigger Output. By using this method - dedicated Din Sync (without prior conversion) , Midi Clock and Arp Triggers may be generated from the Hardware Master device without sacrificing or sharing on board Midi Ports that may still be used for Note, Control or Sysex Data. This application may be used with Hard Disk Recorders also. You need two outputs or tracks per Sync-Lock. For lots of external hardware running alternate timing divisions - up to four Sync-Locks can be used with an MPC-3000 using 8 Direct Outputs."

THEREMIN: L'invitation au voyage

YouTube via copperleaves. Don't miss this performance as well. You can find more here.
"This is one of my favorite songs from the works of French composer Henri Duparc, originally written to a poem by Charles Baudelaire. I have taken certain liberties with the arrangement in order to make up for the absence of the words which are extraordinarily powerful.

Duparc lived an unhappy, tormented life and did not write many compositions. Along with composer Camille Saint-Saens, he founded the National Society Of Modern Music in his native France.

I should mention that I probably would not have been able to play this on my Moog Etherwave Pro theremin if it's volume circuit linearity had not been greatly improved by the addition of the EPVM1345, a tiny module invented by French engineer Thierry Frenkel."

Annunaki

YouTube via davidryle
"A live take. Trance induced polyrhythmic ambient piece. It reminded me of something old - hence the name. The Watchers from the Sky. The Annunaki are the ones of Heaven and Earth in the Sumerian lore.

The synthesizer is an Arrick modular.

The delays are a Lexicon MX200 and a T.C.Elecronic D-TWO.

Six oscillators are used. Two are tone generators and four are modifiers. I also used a noise source for the random sample & hold to an instrument interface which generated odd accent timings for the noise source through a Cyndustries Quad Low Pass Gate.

The moving line is the sequencer run through a Suit & Tie Guy Soundlabs Sea Devils diode ladder Filter module.

The monotone drone is through an Arrick Q150 Transistor Ladder Low Pass Filter. The drone timing was designed by using two low frequency oscillators' pulse waveforms into a Ring modulator (balanced modulator). The syncopated output was sent to an envelope generator that fired the amplifier and filter.

The resonant octave-sweeping sound is a manually modified FM oscillator tone fed through an Arrick Q107 State Variable Filter in band-pass mode.

No attempt was made to synchronize the various oscillators and sequencers. This gave me a polyrhythmic feel that seemed organic.

A Pan/Fade module sweeps the sounds in stereo for a dimensional effect."

DSi Poly Evolver Keyboard Updated

Be sure to click on the images.
Front Panel Gets a Functional and Cosmetic Makeover
HALF MOON BAY, Calif.—November 5, 2009—Dave Smith Instruments has released an updated version of its flagship synthesizer keyboard, the Poly Evolver. The new version boasts 60 potentiometers among its complement of 78 rotary controls. “The response to the pot edition of the Prophet ’08 has been overwhelmingly positive,” said company founder Dave Smith, “so we decided to extend that functionality to the Poly Evolver, as well.” Unlike endless rotary encoders, potentiometers allow the full range of a knob’s values to be accessed in a single turn of about 300 degrees. That simplifies filter sweeps and other more performance-oriented gestures. A kit with potentiometer-equipped panel boards is available to convert older Poly Evolvers. There have also been some cosmetic changes. “We needed both lined and unlined knobs to distinguish between the pots and encoders, so we’re using Prophet-style knobs,” said DSI’s Andrew McGowan. “And we’ve updated the panel graphics a bit without changing them significantly.” The wood end panels are now made from bubinga.

First released in 2005, the Poly Evolver received multiple awards and has been used extensively by artists such as Nine Inch Nails, The Faint, Silversun Pickups, Van She, and Thursday. An analog/digital hybrid, the four-voice Poly Evolver features four oscillators—two analog and two digital—in a unique stereo voice architecture with a real Curtis analog low-pass filter per channel on each voice. The digital processing does not simply add effects at the end of the signal chain, but is tightly integrated with the analog electronics for tuned feedback, distortion, bit crushing, and synced delays. It can also process external audio and has separate stereo outputs for each voice.

The updated Poly Evolver Keyboard is available now with an MSRP of $2,899.00 and an MAP of $2,599.00. The conversion kit requires nothing more than a screwdriver for installation and is available directly from DSI for $399.00 or factory installed for $449.00.
