GEKIGANGER - THE TRANSFORMATIVE JOURNEY OF THE FIRST PRODUCTION MATTSON MINI MODULAR

YouTube via redmartian http://mattsonminimodular.com/ http://gekiganger.org/
"LET'S GEKIGA IN!

After two years of using my MMM (the first production unit) and getting my setup that allowed an efficient work flow I discovered I ran out of room .. and that isn't just because I ordered 3 sequencer units.

Also, I worked very closely with the ICHABOD system and I enjoyed that so much that when I went back to mine it seemed limited. I didn't want to have a system as large as Billy's, but I wanted to have some of the form. Originally George and I talked about putting 3 standard MMM cabinets on their side and make a long row. However, due to budget constraints it was easier to just go with what was already established for ICHABOD and work from there.

Ultimately I'll have a single tier (the size of four MMM cabinets) plus the ability to mount my original MMM case as flanking wings.

So what does this have to do with GETTER ROBO or the mythical GEKIGANGER? There are going to be three of three of these setups with three owners. When they're all attached to each other they turn into a giant robot that smashes stuff and shoots its arms off and things."

Heavensonearth and Husserl Sapphire edition

http://heavensonearth.com
"We’re a small group of developers and musicians providing and creating new instruments for electronic music and modern performers. Currently all our instruments are in the software modular design system called Reaktor 5. Our instruments are some of the largest and most sophisticated available, some including >20,000 modules. We've been providing free and commercial ensembles for the Reaktor music synthesis platform since 2001. Musicians who have found our designs helpful span from bands such as Shpongle and Younger Brother, studios such as Sony Classic Movies, and prime-time national U.S. network TV series including Kings and 30 Rock."

Pictured: Husserl Sapphire edition
"Built as a Reaktor 5.0 ensemble, Sapphire provides the most powerful step sequencing abilities available in a unified instrument. It provides all the sophistication of a modular tool, but you don't need to build your own custom modular setups; the modularity is already built into it. With just a few clicks, all its sequencers can trigger and modulate each other. MIDI can also change and trigger all the sequencers in many different ways. There are 16 step, bar and rhythm sequencers; multiple trigger and gate modes; four modulation matrixes; note filters and transformers; chord generators with each pattern sequencer; dozens of custom and preset pitchmaps; step record; controller output; multimode clock jitter for adding timing realism; and a snapshot sequencer for chaining presets. All the sequencer channels are fully polyphonic, and playing notes can sustain to their original duration across preset changes. Any of the 16 sequencers can output to any combination of 16 MIDI channels and 4 other instruments inside the Reaktor ensemble.

Husserl Sapphire edition is currently $79.99. There will be a price increase on December 29. Heavens*onEarth also offers a range of ensembles for free to registered members, and other premiere ensembles providing melodic composition, audio synthesis, and effects not available anywhere else."

Note you can find some free ensembles at Heavens on Earth as well.

Buchla 256e as Clock Multiplier

Neural Pattern Generator Pt. 1

YouTube via wonkythomas

"Cos I'm too lazy to program sequencers, I mean come on pushing buttons & working out what "sounds good" is hard work, I figured an easier way to do it is to let some binary equations do the decision making for me, that way if the result is crap I can blame the machines... right?

Anyway. The 4089 is a 4 bit digital rate multipler that provides an output pulse rate that is the clock-input-pulse rate multiplied by 1/16 times the binary input.... Its an old chip that isn't as easy to get as many of other 4000 friends, mostly because these days I think sane people use PICs to "perform arithmetic operations"

I'm sure a tiny amount of code could do what I'm doing in this vid, but, I only use computers to look at pictures of other peoples synths ;-P

The module in the middle is the Pattern Gnerator, the four switches set the binary input number & it has a clock & clear input. The other two modules are the Clock Divider (D)Mux on the right & the Varilogic II on the left."

Neural Pattern Generator Pt. 2

"Same basic set-up, but now the Pattern Generator is getting a Clear pulse from the 512 division of the main clock. A little bit of Long Division always helps.

I don't alter any of the logic or clock settings this time, just the sound generators & modifiers.

After I've built the "Odd" version of the mux I'm going to do another pattern generator but with logic inputs instead of switches :-D

As usual, sorry about the damned bird noises!!! I swear I don't even notice them at the time, the mic in this cam. appears to be optimized for 'sunnyday chirping' frequencies!"

Yet another symphonic theme

YouTube via attorks
"The theme of this video somewhat resembles the theme I uploaded on 16 October of this year.
The first 2 rows of the Doepfer MAQ16/3 sequencer drive 2 voices with two six step sequences. The first voice you hear is from the Synthesizers.com which 2 VCO's are somewhat overdriven before they are processed by the Q150 VCF. The second voice is from the self built Modular with a bell-like sound. The brass-like bass and chords are done on the Waldorf Q Keyboard. The Mellotron strings are played on the Roland XP-80. The solo is performed on the Clavia Nord Lead 1. I noticed the solo could be somewhat louder; sorry for that."

Kegel - Aria Rotta

"A somewhat stripped down piece using only my Machinedrum and my dearly departed Arp Axxe. A rather primitive bit of software was allowed to determine both the visuals, audio mix, and length of this video. Pun intended... yes and no."

"BLIP has been resurrected! This time he's in color and with improved circuitry and hardware (sweet output jack & mylar speaker), making him much louder unamplified and with extended range particularly on the low-end. In the video he's going through flanger & delay and sounds great through a wide array of effects. I won't be making too many BLIPs, so get yours only @ chamberofsounds.com"

"Alien Space Weaver Demo Video featuring Samira and Addon Waveset
Alien Space Weaver - a very exceptional synth which is especially made for spacey, deep or dark athmospheric backgrounds, soundscapes and FX sounds. One oscillator contains 75 very special samples i.e. partly fairly long ones being created from images providing very spacey sounds from the start already. Thus play it slowly and let the sounds evolve. This one is a tool too for those who like eerie, weird and really strange sounds to be crafted further via an easy to edit user interface.

PAIA STRINGS N THINGS

via this auction

"Here is a very nice Paia Strings 'n' Things analog String and Piano Synth. It has two controls for modulation - Depth and Rate that allow a sort of flanging sound. This allows the keyboard to sound anywhere from an organ to a very nice and mellow stringer to a wild, nasty and almost reverby theater organ. The piano sound can be used separately or mixed into the strings. The modulation works on the piano sound as well. Most Paia products were sold in kit form and I've seen quite a few that have not been assembled very well. Whoever put this together knew what they were doing and did a very good job. The keyboard bushings have been replaced with new bushings so the keyboard action is excellent."

ARP AXXE VINTAGE ANALOG SYNTH w PPC and LFO MOD

"The slider caps are not original but look very nice and fit snug to the sliders. All sliders have been cleaned and properly lubricated. This synth has been fitted with the LFO free-run mod. Normally the ARP Axxe will reset the LFO every time a new key is pressed. This mod can switch off that LFO retrigger. This mod allow very expressive and smooth filter sweeps."

Korg Polysix Synthesizer

via this auction BIN: $777.77
"As you can see in the above pictures this synth has an extra "printer cable" style connector that has been added to the side. The different wires leading to this connector connect to the individual keys of the keyboard. I did not do this mod and dont know exactly what its used for, but my best guess is that it was used to control another synthesizer that didnt have its own keyboard. If anyone has more details about what it could be please let me know. The modification does not affect the playability of the synth itself. I was thinking of removing it, but then there would be a hole in the case so I decided not to.

Korg Polysix's are best known for their leaking battery problems. The original battery was made to last 10 years after which they can spill acid over the circuit board. This is what has happened to this one, but I have replaced the original battery with a brand new one of a type that WILL NOT explode and done the necessary repairs to make the synth work properly with it. All the damaged traces have been cut and reconnected on the underside of the board as originally intended. The IC 31 chip was also replaced with a new one as it had suffered damage from the corrosion.

The new battery stores patches perfectly. I had no problems loading a set of original patches through the tape in connector."
