SNAZZY FX WOW AND FLUTTER 1.mov

YouTube via snazelle.

Synth connection: this one came in via the synth diy list and had some help from Mark Verbos. Also click here and scroll for prior snazelle videos posted here on MATRIXSYNTH. The SNAZZY FX Wow and Flutter is one of the first three products coming from the newly formed SNAZZY FX and is thus a little bit of synth history.

Video description:
"here is a quick demo of the Snazzy FX wow and flutter. This is one of the three products I am releasing at NAMM in 2 weeks. it is a pretty full featured box, with super heavy duty steel box, with beautiful graphics, and an extremely versatily set of controls. I like this box a lot because you can sit around with it for hours and keep getting intersting sounds. from sort of chorus/or comb filtering stuff to delay, to weird messed up tape effects (which are a lot easier to hear on a mix then they are on a guitar) to pitch shifting.

this box can take line or guitar level and can go from clean to slightly overdriven.

retail price will be announced at Namm.

via dan snazelle on the sdiy list:

"As some of you may have noticed lately i have been a bit absent from the list. this is mainly due to how damn busy i have been trying to get my three products ready for NAMM, with my new company, SNAZZY FX.

mark verbos has been a super big help throughout the development of these products (all the circuit boards were designed by him)

i wont get into too much detail at the moment about the three products and i must apologize about the poor audio quality of this video, but i will be posting a few more links in the next week or so, and giving more information on the three products.

the wow and flutter is at this moment the least knob laden of the three boxes. the tracer city has over 20 controls. the mini-ark (based on the tracking section from the audio ark) has about 10 controls, but one of these is a "magical selector" 1-8 preset rotary switch.

as you can probably imagine, things are crazy for me right now, assembling boxes, getting orders of parts in, and picking up boxes from the silkscreen shop. these are are what i will be taking to NAMM but i might make a few changes such as paint type, etc when i go into production (i think the final boxes will be powder coated)

by the way, the two more complex boxes both run off of TRUE 12 or 15 +/- rails with a 9v (though not recommended on the tracer city do to current drain) batt or 9v dc adapter (boss adapter recommended)

anyway...just thought id let you all know that I will have three products out in Jan 2010.

i will be posting some more stuff soon

thanks!"

Allen Strange's Electronic Music: Systems, Techniques, and Controls

via this auction

"Allen Strange's Electronic Music: Systems, Techniques, and Controls IS the bible of modular synthesis. This is the full , vastly expaned, SECOND Edition with 274 pages. Uses Buchla, Moog E-mu and other modulars as examples that can be applied most synthesis applications. This is the one essential book on modular synths."

Sold For: $182.50

Buchla Model 292e Quad Dynamics Manager

via this auction
"The Buchla Model 292e Quad Dynamics Manager is four lowpass gates with individual outputs and one summed output. The 292e respondes to voltage control, A/D or ADSR envelopes, and even aftertouch via the 225e midi interface. The module is in excellent shape and is both physically and electronically sound. Included is the firmware memory card. Other features include:

* 292e sports four independent voltage controlled amplifiers. Each has a signal input and output, a control voltage input that varies the unit's gain from -120 to +3db, an offset adjustment, and a velocity input. The latter adds further control to the gain when employed and becomes transparent when unconnected.
* A switch selects one of three operating modes: straight gate (VCA), lowpass filter (VCF), or a combination of the two, in which the spectral response varies as the gain is changed.
* Frequency domain gating imparts a dynamic tonal variation that gives the listener a sense of absolute loudness. This quality is characteristic of all acoustic instruments (the harder you strike, pluck, or blow, the richer the overtone structure).
* A mix of the four output signals is also provided. Aided by the model 225e or the 206e preset manager, the settings of the 292e can be stored and retrieved."

Sold For: $635.00

Buchla Model 281e Quad Function Generator

via this auction
"The Buchla Model 281e Quad Function Generator is four seperate Attack/Decay envelopes. The duration of both Attack and Decay can be modified by control voltage. Sections 1 & 2, and section 3 & 4 can be placed in quadrature mode to create the familiar ADSR envelope. The module is in excellent shape and is both physically and electronically sound. Included is the firmware memory card. Other features include:

* A momentary switch selects one of three modes: transient, sustained, and cyclic. An illuminated LED indicates the selected mode.
* On receipt of a pulse, the output voltage ramps up to 10 volts at a rate determined by the sum of an applied control voltage and the setting of the attack time knob. If in the sustained mode, the voltage will stay high as long as the input pulse is maintained. If not in the sustained mode, or when the input pulse terminates, the output ramps down to zero at a rate determined by the sum of the decay voltage and the setting of the decay knob.
* At the end of the decay, a transient pulse appears at the pulse output. If in the cyclic mode, the cycle now repeats.
* The time range for both attack and decay is from .001 to 10 seconds.
* In the quadrature mode, generators A and B (or C and D) operate in tandem to provide functions shifted by ninety degrees. The mode is selected with a switch and indicated with LEDs. An OR function can be invoked to generate more complex envelopes (ADSR).
* The model 225e or the 206e preset manager can issue commands to store and recall the 281e's settings.
* The 281e can respond directly to MIDI signals received by the model 225e MIDI interface."

Crumar BIT ONE Vintage Synth

via this auction
"There were 2 production runs and this is the first run which used the same exact filters as the Prophet 5, SSM2044 as shown in the pics [actually the Prophet-5 used the SSM2040 not the SSM2044]. The serial number is #00027 so it was one of the first few made!.. It has a very unique, bright and lively tone, fully analog and resonating. In fact the filters can fully self oscillate, the synth can also deliver a mean resonant squish, and the envelopes are decently snappy, better than some other DCO based analogs I've used. It uses DCOs to stay in tune, but honestly they are the most crude DCOs I've ever heard, you would think they are just VCOs based on the sound, but it stays in tune. Sounds range from beautiful moody keys to buzzy leads and brass, and this synth has a very unique analog sound. Definitely 100% unique with a ton of charm. The rumor is it's hard to program but nah, not at all. I like the layout and it's very easy once you get the hang of it. You won't find sounds like this anywhere else. Plus it's velocity sensitive!

Other features include 2 oscillators with triangle, sawtooth and variable pulse width. The pulse width can be routed to key velocity, and many other things can be routed to key velocity as well, making it a very expressive synth. 2 LFOs which are very nice sounding, very organic. They can be routed to the usual suspects of VCA/VCF or either oscillator, as well as LFO rate which can be routed to key velocity. The filter has it's own ADSR envelope and the amount can be triggered by velocity. Just tons of possibilities for one of a kind sounds to be created..." see the auction for more details.

Studio Electronics Omega 8 Chord Samples via cl516

You'll find them on cl516.

"I took some of my favorite simple patches and I layered them up in multi-mode. This means that almost every chord is using all 16 VCO's if I'm doing my math right. (2 oscillators per voice, 8 voices in the machine.) Then I played 4-note chords that were layered / doubled, and recorded them chromatically ascending for about 2 octaves. Oh, and I also made sure to do all of them both major and minor."

Note they are meant to be loaded and played on your sampler, so don't expect a demo.

"Rare Synare PS-1 4 pad, 12 zone percussion synthesizer built around 1977-78. I am a Synare fan and have owned several units. In my 15 years of collecting these I have not seen or found one in better shape than this unit. I bought it new old stock from a music store that closed about 3-4 years back. Filmed on an iPhone using the built-in mic, so sound quality is much better via DI or though an amp. I hate to sell it, but need the $$$ (and rarely use it, as it's really a museum piece)..."

ELECTRONIC PANORAMA

via EARLabs: "Around 1970 Philips had its own recordlabel (as well as its own electronic studio, btw) and it released a series of records with state of the art electronic and electro-acoustic music which were all encased in a shiny silver sleeve. The series was called: Prospective 21e Siecle.
Currently these releases are well sought by collectors of ancient electronic music.
One of these release was a box with 4 records, each presenting the latest or the best of 4 electronic music studios: Utrecht, Warsaw, Paris and Tokyo.

Because this box is very hard to find - it is for sale on the web for $ 1,000!! - and I think it really presents the best of the electronic music from that time I present it here. This is the first release: Utrecht." You can find it here. via twitter.com/hamageddon
