full details at LeafLabs

Some snips for the archives (be sure to see the link below):
"Maple can be programmed using an Arduino-style, sketch-based programming environment, which is open-source and can be downloaded online at our website. The Cortex-M3 on Maple comes pre-programmed with a boot-loader – allowing users to upload new code onto it using the USB interface (supported directly by the Cortex-M3), without the need for an external hardware programmer. You can also program the microcontroller directly with an external JTAG interface."

"The Leaf Maple is a microcontroller board based on the STM32F103RB microprocessor. The Maple runs at a maximum of 72 MHz, has 39 digital input/output pins, 16 analog inputs, native full speed USB, 3 USARTs (hardware serial ports), integrated SPI/I2C support, a power jack, and a reset button. Maple is programmable over USB via our provided DFU bootloader, no extra hardware required! Users can also program the onboard program flash via external JTAG interface."

NOT NAMM: Folktek The Luminist Garden

via the Folktek Arts blog where you will find more images, samples and info.

"The Luminist Garden created by Arius Blaze. This work is an expanded version of the Micro Garden, capable of making lush choral waves and entire compositions as a standalone work.
The expanded soundboard has multiple pick ups that run into the delay - which offers time settings from extremely tight notated repeats to about 1.5 seconds with undecaying feedback that essentially acts as a looper allowing one to make beats by tapping the board and plucking or rubbing the strings.
The delay runs into a very lush and unusual reverb that has the ability to act more as a wave generator, creating waves that can endlessly extend and are based on the original note but with the ability to pitch shift the feedback, resulting in something like the NI effect called "convolution".
The result is rich electronic music from an accoustic source. Sweet ambience. Stereo out, custom lamps and switch, runs on supplied 9v power. The price is 850 and they are built to order."

Pearl Syncussion SY-1 Rare Analogue drum synthesizer

via this auction

"extremely rare and sought after Pearl Syncussion SY-1 drum synthesizer. It has two channels and can be triggered by a synthesizer, drum machine or a piezo transducer (available at Maplins for less than a pound). There are sensitivity knobs at the rear to adjust for a strong or weak signal. When used with piezo's the sounds vary depending on how hard you hit the pad making it truly expressive and musical. Also, because this is pure analogue, there is no processor lag (latency) so the sounds are heard instantly, essential for getting a good groove.

The SY-1 has 6 preset oscillator modes, and on each channel there are 8 sliders which control, tune, decay, width, sweep speed, sweep range, lfo speed, lfo range, and output. There are also sliding switches to control "sweep up-off-down" and "lfo square wave-off-saw wave" and sample and hold."

Using the modular to do Juno type chords

YouTube via darenager
"Just a quick demo of me making some Juno type chord sounds, the Bugbrand CTL-1 is sequencing each oscillator of the MFB OSC2, it is being clocked by the Blacet Micro LFO, the output from the MFB OSC2 is going into the A-106-6 filter. 2 Sections of the A143-2 are shaping the amplitude of the VCA and cutoff frequency of the filter. I did not spend too much time on it so the chords are a bit off and the sound quality is a bit crap, but you get the idea hopefully."

NOT NAMM: Free Hollow Sun Novation BassStation Sample Pack

Available at Hollow Sun's Freepacks page.

"Our featured download features some fantastic bass synth samples from the Novation Bass Station created by my Hollow Sun cohort, contributor and friend, Dan McCullough.

Released in 1993, the Bass Station was a monophonic analogue synth designed to emulate the Roland TB303 'BassLine' which had gained immense popularity in the dance music genre of the time. Whether it succeeded or not is debatable but the Bass Station was (and still is) a pokey little analogue monosynth - in fact, the 'Bass Station' monicker did it no favours because it was equally good at leadlines and other synth duties.

Lacking extensive facilities (basically just two VCOs feeding into a lowpass resonant filter and into an amp with two ADSRs and a single LFO to service them - no noise generator or fancy modulation) meant that it wasn't a terribly flexible synth (unlike, say, a Pro-One) but it made a good sound and one that's been captured well by Dan.

What's on offer here are 30 excellent synth bass sounds that cover a wide range of genres, uses and applications and which Dan has looped and programmed to perfection. Nothing fancy - just 30 solid synth bass sounds that sit nicely in a track.

But they cover the full keyboard range from C1-C7 and are therefore equally as useful as fruity analogue polysynth sounds and lead lines and the raw samples are open to much abuse by the more adventurous amongst you.

And in keeping with the Hollow Sun ethos, all the sounds have been carefully optimised by Dan to have minimum impact on RAM and disk storage and CPU strain making them fast and efficient"

NAMM: Make Noise Pressure Points

Make Noise will be at the Analogue Haven Booth 1859 Hall E. You can find a list of all synth related booths here. If you are not on the list, let me know.

Details via Make Noise:
"Pressure Points is a controller in which 1 of 4 sets of 3 tuned voltages are selected by touching the corresponding printed copper wire at the bottom of the instrument. Touching Pressure Points, you become part of the circuit. In addition to the tuned voltages, a gate signal (Gate OUT) and a control voltage proportional to the amount of pressure applied (Press OUT), are generated when the module is touched. Up to 4 of these modules may be Chained together to create controllers of varying size and complexity. Each of the Gate and Press OUTS are normalized to their respective SUM BUS which is output at the last Gate and Press OUT in the Chain.

2 potentiometers allow the circuit to be adjusted for desired playing response. One is an internal trimmer which may be adjusted to compensate for size of your digits, and moisture of your skin. The other is adjustable from the front-side of the module, and sets overall system sensitivity.

An expansion port on the backside will allow for sequential control via the forthcoming Points Expander, bringing all of the typical functionalities of the analog sequencer to this system.

The Pressure Points operates from a single supply and may thus be powered with a wall-wart or even a 9V battery. Pressure Points will, of course, operate perfectly powered from the dual supplies found in euro rack format cases from Doepfer, MonoRocket, MW. Having the single supply operation allows for greater ease in building of custom enclosures.

The faceplate for the Pressure Points is actualy a printed circuit board. Therefore it will be black, with white and gold graphics.

This module is 20HP and consumes 20mA worth of current."

Reaktor 5: Morphing Effects as Sound Generators using Feedback Matrix

YouTube via Veqtor
"Here's something I've been playing around with recently: using effects in feedback matrices and morphing between presets. I got the idea when playing around with frequency shifted feedback in a Serge modular system. So I created a crude macro that let's you morph between the presets, but intend to improve upon it before releasing it (morphing speed modulation, snapshot lists etc). A lot of effects in Reaktor unfortunatly use non-interpolating parameters, like switches (which is good for saving cpu), thus creating clicks when morphing. I will be creating a set of effects intended for morphing like this which are completely designed for morphing (complete with polarizing mod matrices and such). In this particular setup, grainstates fx, a stereo frequency shifter with a wide range and crossfade between up and down-shift, a spacemaster reverb and an analogic filter box are being mixed using a matrix mixer. This allows for any output to be sent to any input. All of the effects are morphing randomly between presets and so is the matrix mixer. Works quite well as a proof of concept if you ask me!"

ARP Odyssey analogue synthesiser - lead sound with FM

YouTube via buchla300
"ARP Odyssey - A simple lead sound but using the s/h mixer to modulate VCO2 with itself. Also shows the ring modulator and FM of the filter with VCO 2
The odyssey is a superb little synth. In my opinion underrated compared to the Minimoog
It has quite a few functions that are missing on the Minimoog (S&H, Ring Mod, PWM, Duophonic, LFO trigger of the envelopes, initial gain, Hi Pass filter, VCO Sync etc) and is certainly well worth the money they go for. Usually my first suggestion for people looking for a decent analogue synthesizer.
Mine is pretty rare as it has a factory fitted second filter which is superb. It can do lopass, lopass 4 pole, notch, bandpass and vc high pass as well as the inbuilt hipass.
Quite a few different versions of these but I think they all sound good."

Le Plat Pays / Brel / Theremin

"This is Belgian singer/songwriter Jacques Brel's anthem about his country. He originally wrote the song in French but recorded it in both French and Dutch. Brel was one of the first popular singers to use the instrument known as the "ondes martenot" in his songs and it was an important part of the special feeling of this song. I do not play the ondes so I have used its sister instrument, the theremin, instead. I first heard this song in the summer of 1963 and fell in love with it. For me, Brel has been an inspiration ever since."
