LZX Video Waveform Generator

LZX Industries
"What your ear may hear as a subtle difference, your eye may see as a huge one. Since the end results in video synthesis are visual: texture, pattern, and shape instead of audio, there are a number of features and controls in this VCO design that take into consideration this unique application.
Features
* Wide range VCO with 6 selectable frequency ranges from LFO to 750KHz, coarse and fine tuning controls.
* Expanded hard sync circuit designed for accurate synchronization to video sync signals. Selection switch allows normalization to sync bus signals distributed through the power header from the LZX Visionary Video Sync Generator module.
* Precision video op-amps used in all circuitry for accurate high speed frequency and waveshape modulation.
* Five simultaneous waveform outputs: Triangle, Sawtooth, Square, Pulse (Rectangle) & Shaped Sine.
* Two independent waveshapers with CV inputs, CV attenuverters and bias controls: Pulsewidth Modulator & Sine Shaper. Control pulsewidth and sine shape from 0% to 100%.
* Two exponential frequency CV inputs with CV attenuverters.
* Attenuversion controls on all signal inputs allow attenuation and inversion of any input signal.
* Frequency notification LED."

It's hard to describe but it sounds deep, fat and wet for lack of a better description. MATRIXSYNTH: NAMM PICS AND VIDEO

In case anyone was wondering where all my pics and vids are, they are coming soon. I'm finally getting my head above water. I was going to put up one post linking to all pics, but the upload at 219 images and just under 1G failed last night. So, instead, and better in my opinion, I will be putting up one post per booth for images and one post per video.

I need to apologize to the manufacturers I missed out there. My trip was literally a spur of the moment decision. I couldn't book a hotel on Friday, so I flew in early Saturday and had one day for NAMM. Sunday and Monday where booked at Disneyland with my family. :) That said, I made it my focus to meet people and to only take a few shots and no video, but video happened anyway. Unfortunately my video camera ran out of juice and I switched to my camera for some which you will see shortly. I also learned the audio and video quality suck on my cameras, especially considering how noisy the floor of NAMM is. When you watch these videos focus more on the experience of being at NAMM and checking out gear vs. high quality product demos. I'll leave that to the boys at Sonic State.

I want to thank everyone I met at NAMM and the TRASH_AUDIO BBQ. It was an incredible experience and I loved everyone I met. THANK YOU!!!

NOTE: I'll be putting up my NAMM posts inbetween other posts to keep things flowing. As I mentioned before, just click on the NAMM label at the top right of the site to get to all all NAMM posts. I will leave it up until the Musikmesse in March when I switch it out to that label.

"Here's the wonderful new toy from Think Geek, the Bliptronic 5000, with a little added talk modulation from the lovely KP3. Although the Bliptronic is basically an extremely simple step-sequencer, it looks and feels great (surprisingly, as I thought it would be really light and extremely breakable) and is very therapeutic to play on.

Has anyone else got the problem of that annoying drone when using headphones or line out? Please assure me I don't have a faulty bliptronic...

NOT NAMM: Modcan MATRIX FILTER 68B

via Mr. Array, via Modcan where you'll find demos.

"The 68B Matrix filter is based on the filters of the Matrix 12 and Expander synths of the 80's. While not a direct clone this design uses modern components in place of the CEM custom ICs used in the original. The filter responses and sound are faithful to the classic design. The 16 filters are divided into two banks with selection from the front panel via BANK toggle switch. Each of the 8 filters in a bank is provided with a separate output for external mixing and cross fading down-line.

Module Highlights:
* 16 Filter responses
* Separate out for each bank of 8 filters
* 2 x CV and 1V/OCT control of frequency

KORG CX3 OS Update

via Jo
"After more than one year waiting I finally decided to update the os of my KORG CX3 to version 2.01. Around the forums I learned it was very difficult and hazardous to upgrade because when the process failed it leaded to a non functional organ .... I had to upgrade through Windows because Korg only delivered a win executable
Fortunately I installed a bootcamp XP partition on my Macbook Pro. I made the upgrade with a simple Midisport 2X2 MIDI/USB interface .... and it worked without any kind of problem. Someone said to me it'll take more than 15 minutes to complete the update .... it only took 8 minutes ! Here are some snapshots of the KORG firmware upgrade program during the whole process. And after you'll find some pictures of the CX3 display during the process"

Note Jo sent me some nice images of the synth display uploading the OS but blogger is turning them solid black, so this one goes up more for informational purposes. If you have a CX3, upgrade at your own risk, but it looks like Jo was able to do it.

Update: "you can find the whole process here with all the snapshots and pictures taken"

Roland R8 MKII pattern editing R-8 drum machine

YouTube via buchla300
"Just showing how cool the Roland R8 sequencer is. Many just use it as a straight ahead drum machine, but t's when you start doing realtime pitch/decay/pan/nuance/velocity editing that it becomes cool.
Pitching and changing the pan and decay of the individual sounds after they have been recorded.
I used this zillions of times with Andrea Parker for her stuff and remixes we did and for my own stuff. I know the guys from Autechre and many other artists used one . Great box.
The R8 MKII has more built in sounds and more memory. Worth finding over the MKI version."

Roland MC-8 Sequencer Demo Song - ODD RHYTHMS

YouTube via peahix

"This is one of the demo scores in the Roland MC-8 manual. It's a piece called "Odd Rhythms," written by the inventor of the MC-8, Ralph Dyck. I decided to spend a couple of hours punching this thing in to see what it sounds like. The lead, bass and chords are playing back on a Roland SH-101 (overdubbed via the MC-8's tape sync one monophonic line at a time), and the cymbal and conga are playing back on a SCI Pro-One. For the cymbal, I had to use VCF accents instead of the VCA accents the score calls for, because the Pro-One doesn't have a CV in for the VCA. I didn't spend much time on the sounds or on the mix, so it is what it is. But as you can see, you can get as musically complex as you want with the MC-8.

If any other MC-8 users out there want the data for this piece, just send me a message and I can send you an mp3 to load into your machine."
