MOTU BPM Hardware

pics and details in this MOTUNATION thread. DIY project is by ssp.

"well im almost at the end of this little journey making this controller.
i just have the sidecheeks to wrap and the buttons to have their legends on and its finished!

i have decided to build the stand-alone unit and add some extra features, which you will have to wait until i start the build to see what they are. i am however going to build a control expander for this unit which will just link the the rear of thecase using a cascade port.

in the meantime heres the finished item (almost) hooked upto bpm and ready to run!

thanks for all the support while i have been working on this unit, i promise the next one will be even better."

Welcome to the Machine - A-100 Analog Modular System

YouTube via beckhusen
"That's definetly what i mostly like. Of course, nobody can't listen this hypnotic meditative sound nonstop, even me, but in any way everbody may have an inner feeling for his audioactive base, which can't become affected by time nor by mode. This is the art of sound sound of my soul.
The original track runs about 35 min. Unfortunately i need more time for creating the video than for the music, but creating a video is a step which can be done at all times. It's like a job. Creating the sound / music is not possible at all times, it's more as if i must be touched by the spirits. At first it needs time to create the patch. Sometimes i'm crazy lucky and the cable connections find their routes like patched by a ghost's hand. The i've only to catch the right moment when my mind and fingertips are sensitive enough for the magic session. That can't be forced !"

Admin: Site Tips

I frequently get questions about synths. For example I just had a question about the MC-505 and its RCA jacks. RCA jacks? I knew it used 1/4" but I have been wrong in the past, so to be sure I did a quick search on MC-505 on the site. Well, no pics of the jacks came up on the first page. Great, I post too much. Tons of videos and references, but only one auction post minus a pic of the back. I then searched for "MC-505 auction" still nothing! I remembered unless the pics are stellar I put them up on MATRIXSYNTH-B. So I headed over and just searched for MC-505 because it's ONLY auctions there, and sure enough a post with this pic came up on the front page.

I should also mention that I used the Search box on the top left of the site vs. the Google search box on the right in this case, because I wanted to quickly parse through the images vs. having to click on each post link to check. Note Google search does seem to bring up more posts AND older posts, so I use it when I need to dig deep, or if I can't find what I'm looking for using the top left search box.

The tips:
1. Search wisely: include the word auction (or flickr) in your searches rather than pics if you are looking for images.
2. Don't forget to use MATRIXSYNT-B!
3. Don't forget to the two Search boxes on the site!
4. With the above, for videos, include the word YouTube or Vimeo, not video and not both words. Think of patterns.
5. For specific videos, search for the title (that's why I just copy and paste titles vs. changing them BTW) or YouTube alias for all vids from that user. Sometimes titles on YouTube change after I put them up.

I created a Site Tips label for this and other posts where I through tips out.

"The new episode of Electric Independence documents a visit to Vince Clarke's incredible home studio that features more analog gear than, well, probably anyone we've ever encountered. The founding member of Depeche Mode, Yazoo, and Erasure is enjoying the country life in Maine but still cranks out the jams, or as he likes to put it 'making something from nothing.'"

ROLAND V-COMBO VR-700 STAGE KEYBOARD NOW AVAILABLE

"The Best in Organ, Piano, and Synth Sounds for the Gigging Musician

Los Angeles, CA, March 18, 2010 – Roland is proud to announce that the V-Combo VR-700 Stage Keyboard (http://www.RolandUS.com/V-Combo) is now shipping. Featuring the best of Roland’s acclaimed Virtual Tone Wheel organ, full 88-key multi-sampled piano, and pro synthesizer sounds, the V-Combo is perfect for players who need an all-in-one keyboard for a variety of musical settings, including houses of worship, stage performances, and rehearsal studios.

The V-Combo provides an authentic sound and feel to satisfy any organ player. Using Roland’s Virtual Tonewheel engine, the V-Combo simulates the unique structure and distinctive sound of vintage organs. The new amplifier and rotary simulator faithfully reproduces the sound needed for jazz, rock, funk or gospel, while the 76-key waterfall action captures the feel of a vintage organ. Add an optional PK-25 or PK-7A pedalboard for a more console-organ type feel.

The V-Combo takes its lead from Roland’s popular instruments, including everything from expressive full key multi-sampled acoustic grand pianos, classic electric pianos, to realistic strings, brass, bass and guitar sounds. The 76 keys can easily layer two ensemble tones together, or layer and split with the organ tones.

In addition to the ten harmonic bars on the front panel, the V-Combo also incorporates a variety of expressive controllers for even more exhilarating performances. The red harmonic drawbar allows players to control the volume of the Ensemble tones. With the D Beam, players can create authentic organ-specific effects, such as wheel braking, or perform filter and level tone shaping on ensemble tones using an infrared light beam.

XLR and ¼" outputs make the V-Combo ready for any stage, while the USB port and Song Player function enables direct playback and control of backing tracks from USB memory. Keyboardists can also back up and recall Favorites and system settings from USB memory, making the V-Combo easy to share at rehearsal studios.

The V-Combo VR-700 is now available with a suggested retail price of $2,329.00.

ENSONIQ SD-1 Demo - "Palette"

YouTube via jamesbooty
""$D-1 PALETTE" is one of the demos included on the sequencer OS disk with the ENSONIQ SD-1 32 voice synthesizer. The song is comprised of 18 sequences.

The opening sequence features the "WIDEPUNCH" and "RUDE-GUITAR" patches. Later we hear "PEDAL-STEEL" and "HARMONICA" and a jazz sequence with "VIBROPHONE" and "ACOUSTIBASS" patches. Following this are some synth patches including "ASCENSION" "NU-MEANING" "OMNIVERSE" "ELEMENTS" and "SD1-PAD" and then the song concludes with a sequence making use of various orchestral patches.

The SD-1 contains two permanent ROM banks of sound programs or "patches" and a third RAM bank into which programs could be loaded from disk. Unlike some demos where patches programmed specifically for the demo are loaded into RAM, this "Palette" demo uses the default "SD1-INTERNAL" RAM patch set.

The sequences that are used in this song are labeled "-A-" through "-S-" and the song steps are A, C, D, E, Q, P, S, R, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O. Interestingly, a sequence labeled "-B-" which shows off more of the "RUDE-GUITAR" patch is loaded into the sequence banks but is not included in the song steps."

Roland D-50 TVF: 3 TVF configurations for E-guitar patch.

YouTube via TheSynthFreq
"Hi. :) This is a short video example of 3 TVF configurations to make an E-guitar patch. The patch I made for D-50 is close to the lead sound that I wrote for the Alpha Juno-1, although it is a little thinner sounding. The Alpha Juno-1 has a very warm VCF/VCA so it is going to have a little different texture to it. I discuss some information about the TVF, Time and Levels in the TVF with attention to T2 settings. I am not a great presenter, and I talk too fast, but I hope this info makes sense and doesn't cause more confusion than necessary! :) LOL
This E-guitar patch uses 3 of the 4 oscillators and can be configured in 3 ways, 1 where the time and the effect is dependent of the time setting (T2) in the TVF, 2 where the velocity (TVF -WG PW velocity = +/- 0-7) is in effect or 3 where no velocity or time is specified, and there is no "evolution" to the sound over time.
Please enjoy!
:) TSF"

This video covers restoration of the SH (sample and hold) control board. Parts used in each video are available in kits on ebay.
