Musikmesse: John Bowen Solaris Videos

YouTube via delamartv — March 29, 2010 —

"The Synthesizer Solaris from John Bowen is an exceptional piece of hardware. We could interview John Bowen during the Musikmesse 2010 in Frankfurt and ask him about the new features in Solaris.

John Bowen shows us all the good stuff about Solaris and even a new filter he finished few days before the show.

If you like more information on John Bowen and Solaris, watch the second part of this video either on our YouTube Channel or on www.delamar.de"

"Some friends of mine have a studio called StudioX.1 in Cologne Germany. It's Henning Schmitz's of Kraftwerk. He has some openings as their statement says, 'Available capacities at StudioX.1 (Henning Schmitz of Kraftwerk).'

As many of you might know Henning is not only working on the new record Montone, and is a member of Germany's electro pioneers Kraftwerk, he is also an amazing studio and mastering engineer...!

Due to some major changes of his scheduling, he has some available time slots within the next few months to offer his work as engineer for studio production, mixing and mastering at his studio in Cologne.

Electrocomp EML 500

via this auction

"This is a rare Electrocomp EML500 analogue mono synth. It was launched as Electrocomp's answer to the Moog Prodigy but was never made in anything like the same quantities. It has two VCOs (with a weird sync capability), noise source, an interesting LFO, sample & hold, pitch scaling (for exotic microtonal scales), ring modulator, multimode filter with HP, BP, LP modes (very rare at the time), envelope generator, CV/Gate in and out (although not 1v/Oct) and a mic input. Capable of some very odd sounds and the 3.5 octave keyboard makes it a lot of fun to solo on. I bought it to replace my EML100 but it's not really in the same league as that or the EML101, still a cool synth though."

"Numerology voices with randomness into MOTM 650 MIDI to CV converter to synthesizer.com oscillators. Encore UEG and synth.com EG's into Megaohm and dotcom VCF's. The Numerology gates were fed into a Moon Modular trigger sequencer for further rhythmic exploration. The bottom row determines the very jagged delay times on this one."

Right on Target (Patrick Cowley tribute) - Harlem Nights

YouTube via harlemnightsmusic — April 04, 2010 — "Tributing Patrick Cowley.. Recreating this classic early 80s club track, some variations later on. You may recognize some elements of Menergy and Megatron Man. Patrick Cowley is one of my ATF artists. It's great to see his genious work being rediscovered by many nowadays.

Recreated by ear (loosely). No sampling of the original track was involved. Check out my other vids for more 80s recreations.

Synths used:
- Korg Electribe SX (Oberheim DMX drums, Linn cowbell)
- Korg Minikorg 700S (bass, rhythm accent)
- Creamware Pro12 (Prophet 5 brass)
- Crumar Performer (strings)
- Korg MS2000R (arpeggio fx, noise fx)
- No Juno this time :-)

ARP 2500 modular synthesizer for auction

via this auction
"Rare, early ARP 2500 modular synthesizer in very good cosmetic condition and working 100%. A friend of mine bought this one from Phil Cirocco of CMS/Discrete Synthesizers in late 2007 and it's still working solid. As you can see, this is an earlier 2002 cabinet with a 3000 series four voice keyboard.

It includes the following modules-
1002 Power Control
1003 Dual Envelope Generator
1004T VCO
1005 Ring Mod / VCA
1006 Lowpass filter / VCA
1016 Noise / Random Voltage
1023 Dual VCO (rare prototype)
1027 3 x 10 Sequencer
1033 Dual EG with delay
1036 Dual S/H, Clock
1047 Multimode Filter

Cosmetically- The veneer on the cabinet does have some chipping here and there, but overall it still looks very good. Some of the modules have a former owners name and the serial # etched in on the corners.

Internally- According to Phil's description when he sold it, the power supply had been upgraded about 2 years prior to my friend buying it to a 1.5 Amp, low noise high performance unit. The separate 12v lamp power supply had also been rebuilt around that time.
The keyboard works great as well as all of the knobs, switches, matrix sliders, etc. No scratchy pots whatsoever! Phil obviously took care of this thing. I did notice that one of the LEDs on the sequencer has since burned out, but if this is an issue I can have it replaced.

This is not a plug in and play unit like an Arp 2600. Patching is required if you want sound. Please be aware of this."

Guild Melodic Rhythmer Vintage Analog Drum Machine

via this auction

"The Melodic Rhythmer features 16 different drum patterns, including: March, Shuffle, Rhumba, Tango, Fox Trot, Western and more. For further control of patterns, this unit enables the user to toggle Cymbal, Claves, Cowbell and Bass Drum, as well as, Tempo and Volume. Judging by the complete lack of any information on the Melodic Rhythmer, it seems to be quite a rare bird!"

i9 03.20.2010 (Arturia Moog Modular V)

YouTube via infinite9ths — April 04, 2010 — "Listen to more music from infinite9ths at http://www.infinite9ths.com

i9 03.20.2010 was recorded using the Arturia Moog Modular V 2 software synthesizer with a Kurzweil SP76 Stage Piano as a MIDI controller onto a Tascam SX-1 LE Digital Production Environment utilizing 4 stereo tracks before mastering to stereo.

The visualizations were created using the Ryan Geiss MilkDrop plug-in through the Winamp player.

I'm working on some more music that will follow within the next few weeks.

Launchpad PureData Step Sequencer from j4s0n c4s3y on Vimeo.

"Work in progress, 8 page x 64 step MIDI sequencer, built with PureData with an "mlr" like mode. It can be driven by internal timing, or a looping midi clip to match Live's tempo. Made to work with the Impulse drum machine in Ableton Live, but could be adapted for whatever... also, maybe next I'll add clip-sequencer mode for some super choppy break biz, without needing robotic fingers. ;)"
