Crumar DS2 Analog Synthesizer

via this auction

"Crumar DS 2 analog synthesizer. This synth was manufactured from 1978 through the early 1980s and has a rich analog sound. The Crumar DS 2 is rare and very unique. The synth has two monophonic oscillators and a separate polyphonic section. All oscillators are routed to a 4-pole lowpass filter and then through the VCA. The VCOs, VCF, and VCA can all be modulated by two LFOs. The LFO routing capabilities of the Crumar DS 2 are very unique. The synthesizer is fully functional with the exception of a non-functioning LFO delay and pitch drift in the polyphonic section."

DX7 Demo

YouTube via ajantred | June 20, 2010 | 10:00

"Demo of the 1980's Yamaha DX7 Mk1 FM Synthesizer. All sounds in this video were created by ajantred. All video editing by ajantred. No factory presets, eqs or sound enhancements were used. All sounds were programmed solely on the DX7's interface i.e. no sysex files, computers or midi data transfers were used either.
The DX7 should not be treated as a preset instrument. I feel like the DX7 (and the other DXs) is a brand new creature, it doesnt do what all the other synths do... over and over again. It doesnt try to be analogue, it doesnt try to imitate, it instead explores new sounds like an extension of the human mind. Many people have told me that this synth is hard to program so I was skeptical when I bought it (for £185 from a dealer in Lancashire) but after exploring the interface, I have found this is actually very easy to program, it just requires a bit of patience and some getting used to the idea of FM synthesis as opposed to the traditional, subtractive synthesis. The presets on this machine are very cheesy (and extremely recognisable if you listen to ALOT of 80's - 90's music) so its worth creating brand new, vivid, lurid, scary, beautiful sounds as Yamaha had originally intended. FM synthesis is very different from traditional synths but the results are stunning once you get your head (easily) round it."

ARP: Solus

YouTube via ajantred | February 14, 2009 | 7:33

"Me playing a few patches made with my ARP Solus synthesizer (forgive me for my crap keyboard playing, lol). The ARP Solus was manufactured during the very late 70's and throughout the 80's before ARP became bankrupt. It is basically the ARP Odyssey's little brother because had most of the same functions that the odyssey had except it lacked sample and hold and the PPC controls. It comes in its own built in case and has 2 VCOs capable of producing sawtooth and square waves, 1 VCF that has CV and ADSR controls, 1 ADSR with single, multi and auto controls, 1 LFO, ring modulation and pitch bend as well as other tuning controls. This particular Solus (not the one in the picture) is loaned by me from the Oldham Music Centre as no one had put it too good use for over 15 years and have let it gather dust (and damp unfortunately). It is still in playing condition, all the switches and sliders work great, the only problem i have with it is that a couple of key contacts act a little odd due to the damp, but this is nothing major. Overall, this is a very powerful and underestimated synth that produces big fat bass sounds as well as weird and wonderful sounds."

Yet more ARP SOLUS

YouTube via ajantred | November 27, 2009 | 8:18

"Heres me playing some more sounds on my ARP SOLUS synthesizer. Sorry I didnt add a title at the beginning, i spent more time lining my high quality audio recording with the video (i didnt want to use crappy camera audio). Any way, as WC Olo Garb (aka Jexus) puts it, this isnt about what a synthesizer can do, its what someone can do with a synthesizer (theres lots to do, this is only a snippet of all the sounds you can make)
Enjoy"

Arp Solus Vintage Analog Synthesizer

YouTube via ghostexits | June 27, 2010 | 1:26

via this auction
"Although many vintage synth websites describe the functionality of Solus as lying somewhere between the Axxe and Odyssey-- the Solus being a dual oscillator monosynth with osc sync and ring modulation, I'd say it's sound capabilities are much closer to the Odyssey. Like nearly all Arps, the Solus VCOs, VCF, VCA, and Env are all derived from 2600 and Odyssey designs. Being the last monosynth Arp created, the Solus is probably one of the most stable Arps insofar as tuning and scaling.

the sound is distinctly vintage and raw, bright and buzzy like an Oddy. The Solus is almost exactly the same size as an Odyssey and is essentially just missing the Odyssey's S+H and AR Generator. It also adds a few features not on the Odyssey, such as continuously variable waveforms (on both osc.s) and reversed envelope modulation to the VCF. The other major difference between the two is the build design of the Solus; Being built into a highly portable tolexed suitcase, this design makes it extremely useful as a performance instrument, or as a portable studio kit. It's relatively light, and includes most every feature you would want on a professional synth kit such as Portamento, VCO Frequency Modulation (FM), Pulse Width, Pulse Width Modulation, Oscillator Sync, External Audio Input, Ring Modulator, 24db VCF, LFO triggerable ADSR (auto-trig), etc. There's much more functionality here than what you find on a Moog Prodigy or Rogue or even Roland SH. It's much more comparable to an Odyssey or MS20. The Solus also has a fair amount of Modularity with both Inputs and Outputs for Gate, Trigger, and Pitch CV; There's also an Audio Input and a CV/Expression Pedal Input to control VCF Cutoff Frequency and/or VCO 2 Frequency."

Hollow Sun VP330 Vocoder+ Sample Library

YouTube via nuswolloh | June 27, 2010 | 1:28

"A short video clip of the new Hollow Sun VP330 Vocoder+ sample library in action. Nothing spectacular - a quick low-rez screen capture - but should give an idea of how close this is to having the real thing in front of you with the interactive panel. Long multi-samples captured in stereo which authentically re-create this classic vintage keyboard. Thanks for watching!"

Roland RS-505 Paraphonic

via this auction

"The paraphonic string synth from the 70's. Has a sound of it's own - very special - like no other string machine. The sound consists of three parts - bass, string & synth sections - that are all freely mixable with each other. Also it has the excellent ensemble circuit, that is very similiar to analog Dimension effects made by Boss /Roland. External sounds can be processed trough this circuit."

YouTube via JohnLRice | June 27, 2010 | 3:54

"After building my MOTM-410 filter kit from http://www.synthtech.com, I was giving it a quick test and came up with an interesting sounding patch but I needed to take my racks apart for some other projects I'm working on so I quickly recorded a little demo, (my excuse for all the sloppy playing! ;-), and part of the demo morphed into its own entity so this is part demo and part micro music video.

Enjoy! Thanks for watching, rating and commenting!"
