DI box II

flickr by Aud1073cH

"This is my second little direct box. Since these may be more for synth, and I'm using a small enclosure, I only have one input jack, without the parallel loop output. For this second DI box, I decide to upgrade to nice rocker switches, and use a locking 1/4in. jack. For more info and pics, click through to the flickr photo description."

Banana Patch Cables

flickr by Aud1073cH

"I'm planning on building a little suitcase noise synth. I know that I'll want to start making noise as soon as I finish modules. So in preparation, I've assembled a fist full of cloth-covered banana patch cables. This batch ranges in size from 6in. to 24in."

Aalto-Experiment01

Aalto-Experiment01 by brunopronsato
"i am beta-testing madrona lab's synthesizer 'aalto.'(http://madronalabs.com/) i think it is an *incredible* piece of software. so inspiring that i feel i should share some of my results here.
i will hopefully be posting some 'tracks' periodically. keep in mind that these are more experiments and are not meant to be full tracks.
i would really like to see some support for these guys as they are doing some amazingly forward thinking stuff.
i am using some other sounds: drums, rhodes, etc. but the tweaking sounds and basses are all aalto.
thank you, randy jones, for your continued genius in this world..."

Side Note: The beta version of Aalto is currently monophonic, but the final version will be polyphonic!!!

ANALOG SYNTH ADSR AND LFO MOTM

via this auction

"Tom Whiltshire based ADSR and Yusynth based LFO. I made this on an orage plexi glass. This is a left over from my Motm format days. It needs a new home. Everything works. It must be on a 15v power supply format. The LFO is picky and only works on 15v.

There are bare wires and you must install this on your power supply yourself.

Yellow wire is Ground
Red wire is Positive
Black wire is negative."

Vermona DRM1 does acid

YouTube via duncanperson | August 28, 2010

"Vermona DRM mk3, does a short acid set. All drum from the DRM1 with 2 pre recorded drum tracks, also from the DRM1. ABL2 does the bass line and a bit of R3 somewhere... a little bit of biscuit at the start, but it didn't really fit so I stopped using it.

I would also like to say that youtube has tainted the crispness of the drums... :("

But it's vocoding, so there is no fundamental error to be expected, and I can start fine tuning the circuit. - Oh, and the overload is from the microphone of my mobile phone, which I used to make that crappy video. :)
But I'm glad tjis project has finally _started_ to become alive."

Vermona ER-9 first test

YouTube via MusicMiK | August 28, 2010

"I recently got this ER-9 from an internet auction as broken - a resistor and a capacitor were fried according to the seller.

The schematics don't include the power supply, so if anyone also worked on this unit, could you please tell me the value of the resistor between the +12V and the +5V outputs? 82 Ohms seem to be a bit small, as the power transistor and resistor produce a lot of heat, 100 Ohms seem to be a bit too large as the 5V drops with this...

Besides the power supply, all D126D (7426) had some broken outputs each, so i replaced all of them. 2 Trimpots had some mechanical damage, besides this, the electronics were okay, just the electromechanical parts (start switch, volume knob, lamps) need some more work.

This machine has an interesting sound, i especially like the snare drum. There are lots of trimpots in the unit to tweak the sound and i don't have the adjustment documentation yet, so what you hear doesn't necessarily reflect the original sound of this machine, it's just what i adjusted."

The LepLoop

flickr by Chris_Carter_

"I got this in the post yesterday, an unexpected gift from Tonylight (Antonio Cavadini) - who designed and makes them - which was very nice of him.
I've used a lot of synths over the years but this one is something different… it's a strange instrument. It's small, much smaller than it appears in photos: it is part synth, part drum machine, part multi-track sequencer. I'm still figuring it all out but initial impressions are that it's very unpredictable and slightly unstable… but in a good way. I had a few issues with it sometimes refusing to work and also it has a tendency to pick up stray signals from my iPhone and iPad if they are anywhere near it. But when it works it is quite rewarding to use and is capable of some amazing sounds - if mildly frustrating trying get it to do what I think it 'should' be able to do - but I will persevere. If you like wonderful experimental noises - accompanied by a simple rhythm (although I'm sure it's very capable of a lot more) then this little unit could be for you.

The LepLoop will definitely become part of my CCCL experimental arsenal and will most likely get seconded into the upcoming Throbbing Gristle experimental sets in October/November 2010.

I've recorded a short example, it was performed without a keyboard, just using the internal sequencer and some real-time tweakery. The outputs were processed with a couple of Eventide pedals for some 'tape delay' & reverb.

Wersi EX 20 MIDI Expander

via this auction
"Imagine having 8 different sounding keyboards all at your fingertips!!! You are bidding on a Wersi EX 20 MIDI Expander. This is a digital synthesizer capable of playing up to 20 polyphonic notes on eack key. Up to four different sounds can be played simultaneously. These sounds are based on a configuration of sound modules. Each voice is entirely independent from other voices and each voice has its own wave, pitch-envelope, amplitude envelope, routing, and volume. The EX 20 also features analog effects to produce fourier, waveform sample, and modular synthesis. The front panel features a set of 16 drawbar sliders for each synthesis mode. You can create your own custom waveform. A 61 note velocity & pressure keyboard can be split and provide up to four different timbres simultaneously per side. The EX 20 is the rack mount version of Wersi's MK1 Keyboard Synthesizer. Both instruments can 'see' up to 16 midi channels for multi-timbral operation, and can transmit on up to 8 channels at one time. The back of the unit features the following connections:

* 1/4" Headphone Jack
* (2) Two programmable footswitches
* Volume control connection
* MIDI in
* MIDI out
* MIDI thru
* Left/Right/Stereo 1/4" output jacks

The EX 20 will expand your synthesizer, organ, or keyboard instrument and it's capabilities into a new dimension of sound and features! With the EX 20 Expander, you have added virtually eight additional keyboards to your present instrument which can be controlled through MIDI from your present instrument, a sequencer, or a computer. This Expander is perfect for not only the keyboard player but also the Hammond, theater organ enthusiast, or the contemporary church organist. Not only does this unit have bank after bank of sounds, you can also create sounds with it using the drawbars. "

Update via Qwave in the comments: "I think the seller does not really know the fact of this unit.

He writes: "This is a digital synthesizer capable of playing up to 20 polyphonic notes on eack key." So 61 keys x 20 notes = 1220 voices? In fact you get 20 voices all together. And up to four parts stacked (then 5 note polyphonic only.

"The EX 20 also features analog effects to produce fourier, waveform sample, and modular synthesis."
There is one ensemble/chorus FX present. Actually it is the same board as the Wersi Voice. And there is one (1) filter for all voices together. So it is paraphonic as the Korg Poly 800 and others.
You create sounds additiv or in an organ register mode (and then use the paraphonic filter for substractive synthesis). Fourier synthesis would create additive spectrums via analysing a given sound. Not possible here. You can create different additive spectrums for 4 keyboard ranges. No sampling.
The synthesis methods available are somehow very often described wrong on internet pages. Maybe people are copying info without owning and knowing the synth.

Without the manual you are totally lost on this synth. And even as experienced synth user, I did not get to work the Midi sysex to work on this synth or the similar Wersi Stage Performer."

Remember, you can do a search for Wersi EX 20 for previous posts with more info including video as well.
