Ernst-Erik Bombe - Custom instruments from Estonia

via Taavi

"A friend sent me pictures from an exhibition taking place in Narva - an Estonian city mostly inhabited by Russians. These instruments are made in soviet time by some local guy."

Update via Kana in the comments: "Ernst-Erik Bombe, who made these instruments around 1990-s, was working at a Norma toy factory and used pieces of the production- plastic suitcases, seatbelts, toys, badges. I took the pictures at Narva Hermann Castle, there is a competition of exhibitions from all over Estonia, but usually those instruments can be seen at Estonian Theatre and Music Museum, Müürivahe 12, Tallinn."

Synthwerks FSR-4C/B Force Sensing Resistor Combo Module

via Noisebug on Ebay

"The FSR-4C/B is the first in an upcoming series of FSR combo modules based on the Force Sensing Resistor Controler Core, the FSR-4C. In the FSR-4C/B combo module, this core is paired with the FSR-4B Large Format Sensor array. The FSR-4C/B is a multi-panel module combining the control section of a FSR-4 MkII with a separate panel of four larger 1.5” square FSR sensors. This separate panel is connected via a ribbon cable allowing its placement above, below, or on either side of the main control panel. This provides a larger playing surface that is more confortable for some to use. With the use of rubber pad overlays, the FSR-4B can also be played with drumsticks and other objects. Module Width - FSR-4C is 16HP and FSR-4B is 21HP wide."

Chimera bC9 mini synthesizer with external CV & Trigger

via Noisebug on Ebay

"Based on the popular bC8 synthesiser/sequencer, the bC9 offers the same astonishing range of sounds with the ability to externally modulate any possible combination of the eight main control knobs, including the infamous ‘patch’ control. A ninth knob controls the depth of external modulation. The semi-transparent frosted body diffuses the light from the ten LEDs that logically show various conditions and processes (warning: mesmerising). Powered by 3x AAA cells the bC9 measures 102mm x 70mm x 50mm high (4"x 2.75" x 2"). Designed, programmed, CNC machined and hand-built by BC in the UK." Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm analogue drum machine

via this auction

"Also included is the uber-rare original TS-1 programming switch. Apart from the usual audio outs, it has sync-in (see my KMS-30 auction to sync it to midi!) and clock out on the rear. The clock out can either put out 8 or 16 notes, or a special, funky accented rhythm which is very creative and useful. I used to use this with my Jupiter 4 arpeggiator to great effect. Also on the rear are footswitch stop/start/fill inputs."

Korg KMS-30 MIDI Synchronizer

via this auction "Having a clear-out - this little device is invaluable if you want to sync midi devices and/or old-school drum machines and sequencers. It was primarily designed to act as a link between the (then) new standard of MIDI and Korg and Roland drum machines. It can however go much further than that, for example, I used to use this to sync my Drumtraks (midi) with a Linn LM1 (48ppqn) and Roland CR-78 (24ppqn). It has one midi input, two midi outputs, one sync input, two sync outputs and tape sync in/out. All the din syncs can be switched between 24/48 ppqn. It's master clock can be derived from Midi, tape sync or din sync and has an LED indicator. Manual included but you can read it here first"

Kenton Pro-2 dual midi CV converter

via this auction "The Pro-2's converter has two completely independent sections, A and B - these can control two separate synths on independent MIDI channels. Apart from basic Gate and CV (pitch) outputs, each section has two additional CV 'Aux' outputs; a common use is one for Filter Cutoff and one for Amplitude, although if your analogue synth is flexible enough they can control anything. Each section also has S-Trig outputs for you Moog owners :-) Usefully, the CV outs can be scaled to allow for out-of-tune analogue synths. Also present is: DIN sync output allowing you to sync up midi clock to old-school stuff like the Roland TR-808,TR-606,TB-303. Midi In,Out and Thru. Arpeggiator out - a simple clock out to sync up your synth's arpeggiator (Juno 6, etc?) - you can change the clock divide to suit. Also, and very rarely, this Pro-2 has a Kenton KADI output fitted and includes the super-rare lead too! To be honest I've never used the KADI output but I understand Kenton (and others?) can fit KADI inputs to drum machines like the TR-808, TR-606 and CR-78 - using this KADI equipped Pro-2 would allow you to play and program the (eg) TR-808's drum sounds from a midi keyboard. I have successfully used this Pro-2 with an Arp 2600, Odyssey, Minimoog, Jupiter 4, Jupiter 8, CR-78, etc."

Dictaphone Parcel

Dictaphone Parcel from Lauri Warsta on Vimeo.

"Animated short film, Royal College of Art, London, 2009 Dictaphone Parcel is an animation based on a sound recorded with a dictaphone travelling secretly inside a parcel. As the hidden recorder travels through the global mail system, from London to Helsinki, it captures the unexpected. We hear a mixture of abstract sounds, various types of transport and even discussions between the mail workers. The animation visualizes this journey by creating an imaginary documentary. Dictaphone Parcel was awarded the Passion Pictures Prize in London, in February 2010. cargocollective.com/lauriwarsta" via Music of Sound

Friday 17 / 19.45 / K1 On KLIK!"Raymond Scott was a prolific composer, musician and inventor whose music became synonymous with animated films during the Golden Age of Animation in the ‘30s and 40’s. In the 90’s, Scott’s music had a resurgence in animation through Ren & Stimpy, Duckman and the Animaniacs.Scott was also a pioneer in electronic music, building a “simultaneous composition and performance machine” called the Electronium and acting as the mentor of Robert Moog, who went on to invent the Moog Synthesizer."via vitomf, via cartoon brew

YouTube via voicetospirit | September 23, 2010 "I was watching this video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Offwev... [posted here] And was inspired to see what I could do. I started off by splitting the drums to a clean channel, a ring mod channel, and the bit reduction channel. I used my instrument interface with its threshold to set the gate for envelope/amplifier for the oscillators. The frequency that the drums are being bit reduced and the X input to the ring mod is tracked to the keyboard, as wel as the frequency of the low pass filter. It turned out to be a fun project. The modular is passing through a Lexicon MX200 and a Behringer Bass V-amp Pro. Modular: Synthesizers.com Drum: Casio RZ-1 Circuit Bent"

Trash invaders #001 – Schneiders Buero

Trash invaders #001 – Schneiders Buero from Kaare Bøje on Vimeo.
"Recently I was on a trip to Berlin, fooling around as a tourist, but I did have one plan: To visit Schneiders Buero (The largest store in Europe with showroom when it comes to modular synths and the more special filter/fx brands). I had a good talk with the owner himself (Andreas Schneider) who has run the shop for more than 10 years. Before Schneiders Buero he was working with sales for Jomox. He claimed that the store was the biggest of its kind in Europe and I have to admit that I’ve not seen so many modulars/drum machines/filters in a store showroom before (Here I’m talking about the more rare equipment). The best thing is that you can try all of it and the people working there are very helpful. The store itself is quite hard to find and is placed in Kreutzberg (Berlin), but if you ever go there and have just a little interest in modular synthesis or rare filters/effects then you need to go to Schneiders Buero. I made a little video (with sound from the pocket cam) and there are more pictures from my visit on our website – justastudio. (Sorry for the English, but it’s not my native language) Links: schneidersbuero.de justastudio.net - pictures + video "

CRUMAR OMB-2 Analog Synth Bass Pedal & Drum machine

via this auction

Description appears to be pulled from Beat Box!. You'll find other vintage rhythm machines there as well.

"Crumar was an Italian company that was famous for their keybord instruments. The OMB-2 was one of their few ventures into analog drum sounds. OMB stands for one man band. It not only has drum patterns, it also has rhythm and bass. The main unit had all of the controls to select and mix. The pedal board allows you to play bass on the pedals manually, or when it auto mode, select what key your bass pattern is playing in. The volume pedal is a nice feature. This outfit was one of the early one man band units and helped pave the way for hundreds of solo musicians that needed 'electronic side men' ."

BS-16i on iPad + Korg MicroX + Midi Mobilizer Line6

YouTube via mvpadrini | September 23, 2010

With the BS-16i app you can load your favorite SoundFont files and play them using the virtual keyboard on the screen or a traditional MIDI controller, using the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer.

Another very interesting feature about BS-16i app is that you can use your iPhone/iPad as a very functional MIDI controller.

In this video I'm showing how great is to combine the BS-16i and another MIDI equipment, in this case the small keyboard KORG MicroX.
