acidlab bassline and Quasimidi Sirius.
"Just testing my Presonus Firepod after I had it repaired for audio pops/clicks and digital loss.

Fired up an old track from the Sirius and synced the Bassline 2 through to my El Capistan...

Seems to be working better for realtime recording/playback now...the digital hiss at the beginning was from Sirius level being a tad too high.

This video's audio was fed from the Presonus headphone out (Via ASIO playback) into my Kodak zi8 while recording two stereo tracks into Cubase 5."

Bob Moog Foundation Music Series "Voices" Featuring Toubab Krewe

YouTube via ShoreFireMedia | October 26, 2010
See the exclusive on CoS (Consequence of Sound)

"The piece celebrates Bob Moog's legacy across many genres of music, just in time for its annual moogfest, and features footage from the recording of Toubab Krewe's new studio album 'TK2,' out now on Nat Geo Music.

Michelle Moog-Koussa, executive director of the Moog Foundation, which lent Toubab Krewe Moog equipment to use on 'TK2,' said of the band: "Toubab Krewe are an excellent example of musicians with an openness, and enthusiasm for exploring the boundaries of what they're doing."

"All of us feel inspired by [Bob Moog's] work...for us it's sound, it's our livelihood, it's everything. For us, his work has been so much about discovery," notes Drew Heller, Toubab Krewe's guitarist."

Apeldoorn by night

YouTube via attorks | October 29, 2010

"Today my friend Anne and I returned from a short holiday in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. I had a fantastic time with her but that is not to difficult because she is a very sweet, lovely and beautiful woman. This afternoon I had some time to improvise with the Modulars and make some music. And behold the result.

The first sequence is an 8-step sequence from the Doepfer MAQ16/3 driving the self-built Modular. After that a 7-step sequence from the MAQ16/3 driving the Ian Fritz Teezer Through Zero VCO and MiniWave is activated. I transpose the sequences manual with a MIDI keyboard underneath the Modulars but you can't see that in this video. The Mellotron string/choir sound comes from the Roland XP-80. After that the 6-step sequence from the Synthesizers.com Q960 sequencer is introduced; at first single notes and later on the whole sequence driving the Synthesizers.com Modular doing the bass voice. Solo's and chords are played on the Clavia Nord Lead 1 and Waldorf Q Keyboard. I apologies for the occasional wrong note but hey, it's live and totally improvised. Also at the end the sustain pedal for the Roland XP-80 gave some problems resulting in some hanging notes.

The whole piece is some 33 minutes long and I will upload the video and music to my website soon."

USB-Octomod Demonstration

follow-up to this post.
The USB-Octomod is a USB device which allows generation of computer-controlled analog synthesizer control voltages in the range of approximately +/- 5V. Using a small open-source and cross-platform host application, the user is able to control the 8 output channels of the Octomod through a simple OSC interface. The OSC interface allows composers, musicians, etc. to control the Octomod from their software environment of choice. Jammer's Voyage

YouTube via JLMoriart | October 29, 2010

"I'm using the "Axis Tweaker" application which, besides converting your axis-49's to jammers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jammer_keyboard), also remaps your QWERTY keyboard to that same isomorphic note layout. (Isomorphic = same fingering in every key.)

I send midi out from the Tweaker to GarageBand where I play along with a backing track I made with a chord progression similar to (the same as?) "Maiden Voyage" by Herbie Hancock.

Ken Rushton (aka MusicScienceGuy), the guy who wrote the Tweaker, is a leader in making the playing of jammers possible:

Yamaha TX816 with MV-802 Mixer

via this auction

"This is a rare opportunity to purchase a mint condition TX816 and matching MV-802 mixer with custom cables.

Features:
* This is the full package, and it would be a shame to part it out, so all components go together.
* 8 TF-1 modules, all functional, all with battery voltages above 3V (3.3, 3.4, 3.2, 3.5, 3.5, 3.3, 3.4, 3.4).
* The MV-802 is really meant for the TX816. It usually sits right on top of the unit, and has 8 inputs. The 8 modules are usually panned proportionally from L to R, creating a wall of sound.
* 8 high-quality custom Mogami cables from Psyonic (almost $200 here alone). Qty. 4 at 17" length, and Qty. 4 at 20" length. This keeps the TX816 and MV-802 assembly very tight as the cables are just long enough and no longer."

KORG Monotron Song - Tiger Dance

YouTube via audibleobsession | October 28, 2010

"A simple KORG Monotron groove. All sounds are played with the KORG Monotron Analogue Synthesizer. Additional drums from NI Battery 3 (Preset "Dragon Kit") and convolution reverb from NI Reflektor. Compression and EQ from UAD 1176LN, Helios Type 69 EQ, and Ableton Live's 8-Band (mostly for LPF to get rid of that notorious hum that plagues the Monotron). Line-in recording into my trusty M-Audio Firewire Solo. That's it!

Dancing girls are public domain videos found on archive.org.

Apologies if the bassline and groove get repetitive, really just a quick tune trying to show the kind of badass basslines and leads you can get from the Monotron. It really shines when you get some nice PWM going and push that MS20 filter hard. The LFO self oscillates nicely too. Overall, the best $60 bucks I've ever spent. Looking forward to moding it now."

Synton Syntovox 221 Vocoder

via this auction

"This is the flagship vocoder from Synton, and is among the best vocoders of all time. It shares company with the EMS 5000 and the Sennheiser VSM-201 vocoder. This particular unit was in fact used by Wendy Carlos, but that is not as interesting as how it sounds, nor as interesting as how nice the condition of this vocoder is.

The face of the unit is without blemish. The pots feel smooth and new, no pins are missing and all LEDs work as new. The power supply has been converted for US power and it even comes with original Synton literature - the original manual and informational documents from tradeshows back in the day. A technician has gone over it thoroughly, early last year, and couldn't find a fault...

This auction includes:
- Synton Syntovox 221 Vocoder
- Synton Syntovox 221 PSU w/ a little note to Wendy Carlos taped to it, from back in the day ;-]
- Cable for connecting the 221 to the PSU
- Original documents"
