Studio Electronics Minimoog Midimini

via this auction

Original Minimoog in a rack.

Update: via Chris in the comments: "The Midimini is not an original Minimoog in a rack-that would be the Midimoog. This is a recreation/ clone of the minimoog by Studio Electronics. Not sure how different they sound tho."

Update via the world of next tuesday: "That was apparently the general idea, the MIDIMoog was SE usually converting your supplied Mini into a MIDI rack, the MIDIMini was a generally a unit they put together but exactly how much original Mini inside will vary. I popped a MIDIMini open and found a clone VCO board but original vintage Moog VCF and VCA/envelope boards. I would think that since Minis can sound different from each other to begin with these units surely vary." See the comments in this post below for more.

Electronic Music Synthesizer Shirt

"Sweet synth sounds from your shirt

Just in time for Rock Band 3, ThinkGeek is releasing our Electronic Music Synth Shirt. We always had plans to put together a full rock band, and after the Electronic Rock Guitar Shirt and Drum Kit Shirt were complete, we set our sights on rounding out the band with some ivories. Turns out, importing ivory is illegal - and expensive! - so you'll have to settle for rocking out on this substitute.

This fully-playable, t-shirt-based music synthesizer features professional quality sounds in a unique wearable format. With eight-voice polyphony, high-quality sampled sounds and stylist retro amp box, you'll be jamming like Thomas Dolby and Kraftwerk in no time. Just be forewarned: Your neighbors will complain, but it's only because they can't stand the reminder of just how much more awesome you are compared to them. Be kind and turn your volume all the way down to 10. We should also note that wearing the Electronic Music Synth Shirt may result in an overwhelming surge of emails, text messages and phone calls, strangers sending you their underpants, and paparazzi photographing your trip to the comic book store. Such is the life of a rock god - get used to it."

"An edit of the Modulator ESP performance at Awakenings on 23-10-10.
For this concert Jez used only a VCS3 synth with a Repeater and some FX. The result is a quite dark and experimental ambience. If you're looking for nice melodies I wouldn't bother with this one ;-)

CASIO VZ-1 synthesizer

via this auction
"This is a very good digital synth, great for deep basses and experimental sounds etc. It has eight modules (four pairs or lines) which are similar to the operators found on Yamaha's DX synths. Each module can act as a carrier or modulator, so that you could have up to eight carriers, or as few as one carrier being modulated by seven modulators (or as many/few as required). The modules have flexible routing, so that the first pair can modulate the second pair and so on. The modules can be ring-modded, phase-modded, or ouput 'straight'. Each module can be edited independently and each has its own on/off button and indicator lamp. The VZ-1 can do the traditional (four stage) ADSR envelope, but is more versatile, giving the user from one to eight-stage envelopes. It has a multi-timbral mode with eight patches on different midi channels, and a combination mode with up to four patches combined into one. The modules (or oscillators) can be from a choice of eight waveforms: sine, sawtooth one to five, noise one, and noise two. Keyboard action is excellent."

Oberheim OB-Xa Analog Synthesizer (1980) pt.1

YouTube via retrosound72 | November 09, 2010

"vintage synth demo by RetroSound

Oberheim OB-Xa 8-Voice Analog Synthesizer from the year 1980.

part1: some self-made and factory classic OB-Xa sounds (pads, brass, bass, sync-sounds and more)

The Oberheim OB-Xa is one of the greatest analog poly-synths ever. A classic! Van Halen`s powerfull Jump and 1984 Intro sound is the OB-Xa.

The sound character of the curtis chip based OB-Xa is very different to the early discrete and SEM based OB-X. The sound is harder and not so lush. Check my OB-X demo vids! But the OB-Xa sound is more raw, organic and warmer as the the later OB-8. The OB-Xa was available with 4, 6 or 8 voice cards.

Used by: Van Halen, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Gary Numan, Rush, Prince, Vangelis, New Order and much more"
