NAMM & NOT NAMM - New Products on the Synth Front

Well, it's that time of year again. Keep an eye out on the NAMM label (added to top right menu) for everything NAMM and more. More in that anything new will get the label whether it's shown at NAMM or not. It's about new gear. Updates in this post will be preceded in red. Some already in below. See "The NAMM List!" link under the Twitter, Facebook, and RSS labels on top of the right to get back to this post later.

(A note on the top site menus: I removed the iPhone and iPad labels as they go up in posts every day now so you can find them there. eBay links are on the right, so I removed it as well.)

That said, the following are some of the things to look out for. If you have any NAMM info feel free to comment and/or send it in. If I missed anything, let me know! If you are going to NAMM, feel free to send pics and video in.

On the list:

The Missing Link - The Missing Link will be at NAMM. I've been testing out the Beta version and must say having wireless control of my synth with the iPad rocks. This will be a must have for anyone with an iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone.

Update: new post here

Fairlight: The first new Fairlight since 1989

KORG: The KORG Kronos (teaser video) - based on the audio in the video and other sources, rumor has it that it will be a hardware synth encompassing their legacy line of synths. Korg's version of the Arturia Origin? A hardware chameleon of the Legacy line of synths? The full Legacy line including the Analog Edition (Polysix, MS20 & Mono/Poly), the Digital Edition (M1, Wavestation), or both?

Update via Juan Vilchez in the comments: "Hi! Korg Kronos it's as you suggested something like the Arturia Origin.

Kronos = Time, legacy, heritage...

Why I am so sure?

Check this out:
Compare 000:Vaporization Pad on Korg Legacy Cell with the main sound used on Kronos teaser.

http://www.juanvilchez.es/vaporization_pad.mp3

9 could be the number of legacy synth engines present on this machine. So far I count 5 (Polysix, MS20, Mono/Poly, M1 and Wavestation). Which are the remaining 4?"

M-Audio: The M-Audio Venom (current details) - M-Audio controller/synthesizer hybrid with digital and virtual analog synthesis.

Dave Smith Instruments: Something new from DSI should be shown - via Pym on gearslutz: "I wish I had more time to look into the voice structure in the Tetra but right now I'm swamped working on the new stuff so it will be ready be NAMM." Thx Soviet Space Child!

Update via twilex in the comments: "Also from Pym @ the unofficial DSI forum.

http://prophet5.org/viewtopic.php?p=4611#4611

"Yes it has a highpass filter. That would be really mean if I got people's hopes up like that... and not in a really funny way, which would totally justify it.

Everything we use builds on older stuff, so regardless of what this product ends up being you will see many of the features in the next one, including the highpass.

We are still focusing on a fully analog signal path; with the one exception of digital based oscillators that get mixed into the signal pre/post filters.

A Tetra keyboard would be boring for us to build so we're not gonna do that any time soon."

Hoping for a drum synth!"

Update: One more via twilex: "More from Pym in that thread,

"How bout another little teaser since I like you guys so much?

Analog distortion."

The plot thickens."

More in via Pym on http://dsiforum.org/ (via Alan & Soviet Space Chile):
"Analog distortion
Feedback
Discreet highpass filter
Analog signal path with optional digital sound sources
It's not a monosynth"

Update: speculation is this could be a rhythm machine. The DSI/Linn Boomchik or a portion of it?

Spectrasonics: Rumor has it something big will be coming from Spectrasonics.

Moog: Something from Moog...

Access: Rumor has it development continues on the current line of Access Virus synths. Will there be an OS update for NAMM or will it be held until the Musikmesse in March? See this funny post.
Update via synthfiend in the comments: "I'm hearing no new Virus synth, but Kemper Digital (Access' parent company) is actually planning on launching a new "Profiling" guitar amp at the show (branded Kemper, not Access). Here's a MusicRadar post about it" Also on Future Music.

Update: see the Virus Ti Polar WhiteOut Special Edition in Black.
Update: Access Virus OS 4.5 video here

MOTM: The MOTM Synth Tech E580 Resampling Mini Delay

Bluebox: Not NAMM but just around the corner is the bluebox recently posted.

SuONOIO: The SuONOIO will be at NAMM

MacBeth: Will Ken MacBeth be showing at NAMM? Also see the X-Series Oscillator and the MK1 Oscillator A

WMD Gamma Wave Source

Harvestman Double Adore

OSC303 - TB-303 eurorack module.

Oakley: Deep Equinox and Diode Superladder Variable Slope VCF

The booths on the modular front to check out of course are the Analogue Haven, Noisebug and Big City Music booths.

  1. So The Missing Link will work on the iPod? Will your Pulse editor work on it as well?

  2. Yep, it should work on the iPod Touch with TouchOSC. My editor probably won't work as I designed it for the iPad's resolution, but anyone can easily port it or make a new one in the TouchOSC editor.
