YMO - Firecracker (Budokan 1980)

a.k.a. "Computer Games" in U.S.

Jennifer Lopez "I'm Real""

Thanks goes to @Chris_Randall for this one.

Update: via the world of next tuesday in the comments: "Actually "Computer Games - Theme from The Circus" is the intro piece before "Firecracker". It's made up of "The Circus" arcade game sounds which then segue without a break into "Firecracker". Though I'm thinking it's likely that some non-Japanese singles might combine the two as "Computer Games" rather than name the single "Firecracker" or use a longer title. In Japan it wasn't a single.

Also the New York Post made the claim that Mariah Carey was working on a track featuring YMO's riff as a loop only to discover J-Lo had just completed her song with the same riff and that it might have precipitated her big breakdown back then."

FM madness with TONE

YouTube via JCRUDESS | Feb 24, 2011 |

"This is Tone, a tone generator for the iPad. It's not really meant to be a musical instrument, but it is pretty cool for generating cool sounds.
It's sonic madness so if you are faint of heart please go listen to a mellow piano improv of mine!"

Tone is currently free:
TONE: The Ultimate Tone Generator - Zombies & Robots
iPads on eBay
iPod Touch on eBay

"TONE plays sine waves with frequencies from 7 Hz to 10,000 Hz. TONE also plays sawtooth, triangle and square waves based on additive formulas. These formulas only generate the lower harmonics of the real waves. The last waveform is called FM and involves a carrier and a modulator.

Using the waveform marked "FM", some new controls and displays will appear. The slider below FM Index will adjust the amount that the modulator modulates the sine wave carrier. A higher index will produce a brighter or harsher tone."

"'ZAO' by Doping Olympics

Doping Olympics are:
Yuichi Onoue(尾上祐一) : Kaisatsuko(回擦胡), overdubed Bass
HAL Motohashi(本橋HAL彦) : TAO
Kuritez(クリテツ) : Theremin and Percussion

Recorded studio live on May 2010(Tokyo).

"TAO" is Motohashi's original electric musical instrument.

"Kaisatsuko" is an electric two strings upright fiddle. But it is not performed with a bow. The rotating wheel (which is rotated by my handling) rubs strings and makes sound like Hurdy-Gurdy.

See here for detail about Kaisatsuko.

49 TB303 Square Impersonation

YouTube via 7thDanSound | Feb 24, 2011 |

"The envelopes of the synthesizers.com system can be used as audio waves if trigged from an oscillator. This yields short spikes with a special sound. If you take to and invert one you get pretty close to a TB303 square wave."

DEWTRON Apollo vintage analog modular synth

via this auction

"Maybe it's an Apollo, I'm not sure by the descriptions. It was a DIY project from some ready-made modules of Dewtron at the ver early 70's. It was commonly known as an affordable alternative of the EMS synths as: VCS-3, AKS, and Synthi-A. This one was bought from the first owner, the one who built it in his youth. I'm sorry but I can't even start the process of renewing the instrument due to my duties and the lack of time. The machine needs reparation and I can't tell you much more. There's a huge stack of tech-description of each circuits as oscillators, noise generator, ring modulator, LFO, and specs and many original Dewtron product description booklets come with the machine. At least 100 pages. I can't test it, so take it as is. Wonderful mirror-cap potis and vernier dial knobs like on the EMS synths. Later I can offer you a very nice pin-matrix module."

Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream's Mini for Auction?

via this auction
via the seller's description: "Not only do you get a remarkable instrument in its own right I am including a few bits as well. such as Two foot switches for Glide and Decay. And a rare Moog sample hold device. All together this package makes this quite unique and something special. Also with it I am including a Polymoog pedal and a Taurus II foot pedals. The Taurus II pedals are just that nothing else no cables or anything just the pedals. Observers will note this package was sold on ebay about three years ago, I bought it. But now I am selling it, After a RTA I have been out of work since before xmas so sadly its needs must, and I am skint so I need to raise some income. This Moog system was used by Edgar Frosse of Tangerine dream fame for his only solo London gig. However I have lost the paper work to prove it so its just an everyday Minimoog for sale. "

Roland CR-78 vs Moog FreqBox (Solvent demonstration)

YouTube via s0LVentCIty | Feb 24, 2011 |

"Hello my name is Solvent, and I like my electro funky.

This funky little setup consists of a Roland CR-78 drum machine, a Moogerfooger FreqBox VCO, with some help from an MFB Urzwerg analog sequencer, and Ableton Live.

The CR-78 and Urzwerg are synced to Ableton's midi clock. The CR-78 is going into the FreqBox's audio input. Initially you hear the dry CR-78, but then I fade the mix, from 100% source to 100% VCO. The FB's VCO pitch is being sequenced by the Urzwerg, while at the same time it is hard Sync'd to the CR-78's audio signal. Then I bring in a audio loop of the same CR-78, recorded into Ableton just a few minutes before.

If you enjoy analog electronic music &/or gear demos, please be sure to check out my channel for more."
