Elektron Octatrack Microtiming

YouTube Uploaded by Catabolicdj on Mar 19, 2011

"This is a real quick introduction to using microtiming on the Octatrack and an application of it. Sometimes a loop may be largely in mono and you might want to make the stereo width seem broader. Here we have a high-hat slice on two tracks. On the first track it is panned all the way to the left and on the second track it is panned all the way to the right. You can then move the second hat around with microtiming to get a broader width."

"Each button does controls sixteen different parameters. Each knob adjusts sixteen different parameters. The Evolver is a compact synth with incredible depth.

Three months later, I'm still in awe of the Evolver and constantly inspired by it. If I could have only one hardware synth, it might have to be an Evolver. Not because the Evolver can do everything, but because it can do many unusual things. It makes you pause and think, but it also inspires."

"Two Yamaha desktop synths from two different eras. The TG-33 is a hybrid that combines vector control with 12-bit samples and FM synthesis. The control on the left is a free-floating joystick that should be able to transmit some kind of MIDI. The DX200 is a somewhat flawed groovebox (the first note doesn't play when you change patterns) with limited front-panel control despite all the knobs. Lurking inside the DX200 is PLG-150DX 6-operator FM synthesis board. It should be possible to fully program it via MIDI. I'm looking forward to building some crazy patches in PureData for these two machines."

There he goes -- one of God's own prototypes -- a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die
We are all wired into a survival trip now. No more of the speed that fueled that 60's. That was the fatal flaw in Tim Leary's trip. He crashed around America selling "consciousness expansion" without ever giving a thought to the grim meat-hook realities that were lying in wait for all the people who took him seriously...
All those pathetically eager acid freaks who thought they could buy Peace and Understanding for three bucks a hit. But their loss and failure is ours too. What Leary took down with him was the central illusion of a whole life-style that he helped create...
... a generation of permanent cripples, failed seekers, who never understood the essential old-mystic fallacy of the Acid Culture: the desperate assumption that somebody... or at least some force -- is tending the light at the end of the tunnel.
Remember, if you have any trouble you can always send a telegram to the Right People."

Kebu - The Lunar Effect (Yamaha S30 demo)

YouTube Uploaded by kebunator on Mar 19, 2011

"This time I wanted to explore the limits of my Yamaha S30, so I decided to do a whole tune only by MIDI sequencing.

The song was programmed/performed using Cubase SL solely as a MIDI sequencer controlling the S30 (in "Performance" mode). The song was then recorded straight to 2-track tape in one go. No overdubs, multitracking or external effects were used. Only mild EQ and limiting was used for the digital master. The video was later compiled showing how the various parts were played or programmed."
