Audio Damage 2io Update

via Analog Industries
"Making nice, albeit somewhat slow, progress on the 2io module, the first Audio Damage hardware release. I now have the prototype in my possession, and am busily trying to break it. It works entirely as expected once we solved a rather silly mistake in chip choice. The original USB audio codec chip we chose reports its power consumption as 500ma, despite only actually using around 30ma. The iPad won't recognize a chip that reports more than 100ma. So while it worked fine as a USB interface, it didn't work at all for its main purpose.

In any case, initial tests with this current rev with Silent Way and CV Generator show that it works like a charm in those contexts. As a Euro-format iPad audio interface, it is working flawlessly. So, in short, all is well.

We're doing one more rev of the prototype just to double-triple-super-duper check our work, then it's off to production..."

eowave KOMA - Analogue Bassline with sequencer and memory

via eowave
"COMING THIS FALL 2011
KOMA is a step back into the 80s with a touch of modernity...

KOMA is an analogue bassline inspired by classical synths from the 1980s. It offers the possibility to mix 4 different waveforms (saw, square, sub, noise). The 24 dB low-pass filter is also inspired from classical filters from the 80s.
To this particular sound of the 80s, we added a touch of modernity with modern controls and parameters saving features. The 16 steps sequencer has 4 rows: 1 for the notes and 3 freely assignable to a parameter of your choice that enables to create living sequences with sonorities like Vince Clark or Yann Hammer.

Oscillator section
- analogue VCO with square saw sub (sub can be 1 or 2 octaves below the master freq), noise.
- VCO can be modulated by LFO and PW
- Variable glide
- mixer to mix the 4 waveforms

Filter section
Full analogue VCO, filter, VCA.
- external audio with a trimmer to feed the filter
- 24dB low pass filter roland style for a classical 80s sound
- filter can be modulated by env2, KB, lfo.

VCA section
- Vca is affected to env1
- 2 envelopes ADSR modulate respectively the amplitude and the filter.
Attack goes from 2ms to 10s.

LFO section
- LFO with 8 waveforms (triangle, ramp up, ramp down, square, random, digital noise, staircase up, staircase down)

Connections
audio in
audio out
MIDI in
Usb (for software update and MIDI in&out)

Sequencer
- 16 steps sequencer with LED
- 4 rows: 1 row controls gates and notes.
- 3 other rows are freely assignable to any parameter of the front panel.
- You can transpose the sequencer with an external MIDI keyboard.

Moby and His Love for Vintage Drum Machines

Originally via The Rumpus.

"Not to get too odd and esoteric, but there’s the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi. Do you know what wabi-sabi is? The more entropic something is, the more endearing it is. A bucket that’s forty years old that’s been used by a lady to clean the floors of a house she’s been working in is way more interesting than a brand new bucket from Walmart. A broken down, crummy Wall-E is way more interesting than a brand new robot. And that’s part of my love of these guys, they’re all about entropy. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. They’re all dusty, they have pencil scribbles on them, none of them is cool, and the ones that sort of pretend to be cool are the least cool."

Live Painting Artist LEBO Featured at Halfway to Moogfest

"Miami Expressionist Painter to Create and Exhibit Music-Inspired Art to Benefit Bob Moog Foundation

April 19, 2011 (Asheville, NC) – AC Entertainment and the Bob Moog Foundation announce that Miami artist David “LEBO” Le Batard will paint live with Madlib on Saturday, April 30th of the three-day festival, Halfway to Moogfest. LEBO, known for his exuberant use of color and cartoon expressionism, will create a four-foot-square canvas inspired by Madlib's performance. The canvas will be auctioned after the concert with proceeds benefitting the Bob Moog Foundation.

In addition to painting live on Saturday night, LEBO will host an exhibition of his work throughout the weekend, including one-of-a-kind, hand-painted theremins and a Moog Slim Phatty. The instruments will also be part of a silent auction to benefit the Bob Moog Foundation.

In the majority of the artist’s work, LEBO's interest in music is a consistent current that creates a platform for his paintings in terms of subject matter and composition. LEBO harmonically and rhythmically re-creates sequences of sound in time by laying down stylized lines combined with vivid palettes to complement his cartoon metaphors and cast of characters.

LEBO's has produced commissioned work for the Latin Grammy Awards, the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL and the Hotel de Arts in Sanfranciso, CA. Has served as the artistic director for Langerado Music Festival and his art is part of permanent collections of corporations such as Bacardi USA, Latin Grammys, Universal Music Group, William Morris Agency and Gibson Guitar corp. His corporate client list includes Adidas, ESPN, Google, Macy's, Inc., Microsoft and Simon and Schuster.

LEBO explains, “Working with the Bob Moog Foundation seems like a great fit, as I feel we share the same approach of blending fine craftsmanship, creative exploration, and a keen interest in unique technological applications.”

Michelle Moog-Koussa, Executive Director of the Bob Moog Foundation, notes, “LEBO's integration of music and visual art speaks to the transcendental nature of creative expression, the very expression that guided Bob Moog's career. LEBO, like many visual artists, has told me that Bob Moog's legacy inspires his work. Through LEBO's painting, we celebrate the inspirational value of creativity across genres.”

Halfway to Moogfest 2011 is a celebration of the midway point to this year’s festival. The excitement is absolutely brimming and cannot possibly be contained until October. The Halfway to Moogfest 2011 weekend will present The Family Tour featuring Atmosphere, Blueprint, Grieves with Budo, Sab the Artist, and DJ Abilities on Friday, April 29; a co-headline featuring a DJ Set from Madlib and Washed Out on Saturday, April 30; and Rusko, who will close out the weekend on Sunday, May 1, with Doorly. Tickets for Halfway to Moogfest are available through the Orange Peel (www.theorangepeel.net).

The weekend will give fans a taste of what’s possible at Moogfest 2011. Instruments will be on display, new creations will be demonstrated, and engineers will be available to discuss all the intricate and exciting happenings at the Moog factory. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend will also benefit the Bob Moog Foundation, which will be on-site to give fans a chance to dig deeper into the legacy of Bob Moog.

LEBO represents the self-proclaimed movement of “Postmodern Cartoon Expressionism,” the application of cartoon imagery combined with richly saturated balances of color and unique linear composition. Ranging from abstract to highly narrative, his aim is to evoke emotion and create layers of meaning.

Born in New York City (November 19, 1972) to Cuban émigré parents and raised in South Florida, LEBO’s formal training in the arts began at Florida International University in Miami, Florida (BA degree, 1995) and culminated in his residency at the International Museum of Cartoon Art in Boca Raton, Florida, where he lectured on the practical and technical approaches of illustration.

"Circuit-Bent Alesis HR-16 by Diabolical Devices

This mega modified Alesis HR-16 is the first in a short series of HR mods in custom enclosures and loaded with features. The HR-16 is filled with circuit-bent craziness and unique drum/synth sounds. Check out the description of features below. When none of the modifications are engaged this machine functions like a 100% stock hr-16

Custom HR-16 FEATURES:

Circuit-Bending Interface: 1/8" patch-bay allow you access to bendable ROM locations. Linking these points with patch cables will generate a wide range off effects, synth tones, new sounds, and unique sound-scapes. The HR-16 is particularly responsive to CB mods and has one of the widest ranges in sound for a circuit-bent drum machine. Patch-bay also has 3 points joined for mulit patching, and the entire patch-bay is backlight with multi-color flashing LEDs. Leds randomly blink and fade into just about every color in the spectrum.

Patchable Components: (6) Patchable toggle switches and (1) patchable potentiometer allow you to control when bending points are linked and fine-tune some bends.

Dual Oscillator: Audio Frequency oscillator and LFO . When patched to particular locations this will generate tunable overtones and other unique sounds.

CLK/Master Pitch Control: Master pitch controls affects the pitch of all drum sounds but not the tempo of pattern of speed of other functions. Pitch ranges from well above to WAY below normal pitch, at low pitches you can get some really gritty bit-reduction sounds. Pitch is controlled with LED fader and features by-pass switch."

No problem, this Eminent 310 unique theatre model is technical EXACTLY the same as the STANDARD model. (even JMJ owns this theatre model). We have the best experience with restoring this unique organ, I even think we are the only from Holland who still will restore this Eminent. This organ patch also has a really long sustaining envelope that is kept in check as long as I keep playing, but when I stop you hear it sustain / feedback.
Sorry for the brief chaos / noise in the middle of the video as I threw the wrong switch on the patchbay. This same switch is used to good effect at the end of the video and if you turn up your volume or use headphones there are some nice textures and tones deep in that bent circuit chaos.
