KORG DS-10 PLUS: 'The Seventh' By Anthony Seeha

YouTube Uploaded by seehanth001 on May 6, 2011

"An original song that I wrote myself. I really, really love 7th chords. They sound so beautiful. If you listen to my music, you'll notice that I pretty much use major and minor 7th chords in most of my songs. So hey, I decided to embrace my love for them in this song. Please enjoy! =)

Click the artwork to watch my 30min Korg DS-10 Liveset. It features an early version of 'The Seventh'! xD
Please follow [http://soundcloud.com/anthonyseeha] for exclusive updates.

By the way, I'm thinking about selling my music online through Bandcamp (or any other good hosting site). Would you be interested in my music?"

Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 SYNTH EXPANSION rare!

via this auction

"This is the Synth Expansion for the Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 Groovebox / Synthesizer...

SYNTH EXPANSION

Whether you buy one or all three expansion options, your 309's operating system needs to be upgraded to v2.0 (see 'v2.0 Software' box). Luckily, this upgrade is provided as a matter of course, and is easily installed by simply removing a plate from the 309's bottom and swapping the old chip for the new one. Full, clear instructions are given, as is the necessary chip-removal tool.

On either side of the main operating system chip there's a socket where the synth and drum/percussion expansion options are installed. Essentially, the synth expansion adds 37 new oscillator models, offering up to four oscillators each, two new filter algorithms (12dB low-pass and 12dB high-pass), plus sequence-sync'able LFOs. You can now assign 16th, 8th, quarter and whole note values, that follow the 309's tempo, to the LFO. The new waveforms can be auditioned in 32 example sounds, but these memory locations are not accessible under normal circumstances. There are still 128 synth patch memory locations.

The synth expansion offers one -- or is that two? -- especially important new feature if the audio expansion option is also installed: two extra bass/lead synths. These synths can be played on their own MIDI channels, from an external keyboard or sequencer, or set up to double the main bass/lead synth. It's also possible to trigger the extra synths from the 309's drum sections. Let's be clear, though: you do not get two extra sequence tracks, just two extra synth voices.

Each synth has all the programmability the 309 has to offer, and tweaks can be made from the front panel, and sent over MIDI or recorded into the dedicated Master track). Press and hold F1 or F2 (under the display), and you can use the bass/lead synth's controls. For more detailed editing, double-pressing F1 or F2 takes you to the main editing pages, visible on the display."

MPK49 Pads Mod Tutorial -Increase sensitivity and accuracy

YouTube Uploaded by AfroDjMac on May 6, 2011

"AfroDJMac quickly takes you, step by step, through his customization of his prized Akai MPK49. This will increase sensitivity and accuracy. The principles here are the same as the MPD 32 upgrade seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZViS288WH4 and here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mI4SutQJpQ. Big thanks to these guys for sharing their knowledge!

In this video, I placed a rectangle of duct tape and then 6 rectangles of painters tape on each pad. The result is a MUCH sturdier feel and more accurate pads. It now feels comparable to an MPC 1000. Highly recommended and easy mod. Totally makes me want to do more finger drumming, Plus you'll learn something about the insides of your gear!

Can you figure out where the drums samples played at the end came from?!?!

Chrome Roland SH-101

This one in via Brian and for sale here. You might remember this one from this previous post. There is also a partial chrome SH-101 out there previously posted here.

"This unique item can be seen in Third Avenue, by Hove Town Hall and is for collection only!

I've decided to part with my Custom Designed Roland SH-101 Dance and Acid Synthesiser. You probably know what an SH-101 is so I won't say much. It has its own built in little sequencer and arpeggiator and sounds divine. But......

This one was customised by Jeff Toman at CustomSynth in Devon a few months ago and I persuaded him to sell it to me, despite offers of well over what I am now asking for it! I know Jeff which helped clinch the deal. Anyway now I'm selling it as I've been offered another synth that I can't refuse and will, to be honest, probably use more!

You can look Jeff up on

www.customsynth.co.uk

He's been customising synths for years including a full White Roland Rig for Peanuts from the Kaiser Chiefs and many other 'names'. (OK Chemical Brothers, Carl Cox, Howard Jones, Edtors, Johnny Marr, Fixers, and Pete Tong to mention a few!) The last one of his that was sold by me went to Phil Oakey from the Human League and it was collected from Hove as his manager lives here! This also is for collection only unless the buyer wants to take all risk for any courier but do you really want me to post something as rare as this??

This SH-101 one is CHROME and is the ONLY CHROME SH-101 IN THE WORLD. It is Chrome paint, not chromed metal as if it were real chrome it would be live and not good for you - or it! It comes with its modulation grip attached and in a brand new wooden, foam lined flight case. It comes with a power supply and, of course, works perfectly."

"This is a SUPER RARE Hohner Bass vintage analog synthesizer keyboard from 1960 in excellent condition. This is an awesome vintage synth, sounds killer and is in great shape. Just a few light marks on it and works perfect. I just had it fully gone through and tested by my keyboard tech and everything works perfectly. It comes with the original manual and specs with the carrying bag. The zipper on the bag is stuck but other than that, this thing works perfectly. Comes with the power cord and audio cable."

Casiotone 701 Synth Keyboard Analog Organ

via this auction
Looks a bit like a Roland Juno-6/Juno-60.
"This is a digital/analogue hybrid preset keyboard from the early 1980's. There are twenty digitally synthesised preset tones that largely recall the sounds of 1970's combo organs, as well as sixteen preset analogue rhythms.

There are some preset envelope variations, as well as auto chords and arpeggios and two preset 'sound effect' buttons, which are simply variations of a resonant swept filter (pow-pow!).

The Casiotone 701 is a large full-size wooden keyboard with 61 full-size keys and a melody guide key lighting feature and sequencer. The 701 includes more sound variations than its predecessors (the 501 and 601), 20 sounds and 16 rhythms, both selected through a set of locking push buttons, a programmable arpeggio and two pretty awesome retro special effects buttons.

20 Preset sounds include Brilliant Organ, Woodwind, Full Tibias, Piccolo, Jazz Organ 2, Electric Piano, Marimba, Chime, Bassoon, Wah Brass, Pipe Organ, Diapason, Tibia, Flute, Jazz Organ 1, Piano, Vibraphone, Celesta, Oboe and Funky. Has onboard Casio-chord feature and drum machine accompaniment. The Casiotone 701 also features a red 3-digit "memory step" LED display.

On the back panel are:

INPUTS FOR: Sustain & Foot switch, Pitch adjust/contol for # or b.

OUTPUTS FOR: Phones, Line Out Hi, Line Out Low, Foot Volume."

Roger Linn on Alternate Controllers

Roger Linn has created a page on New High-Tech Musical Instruments . Pictured to the left is his own LinnSturment. You can catch Roger Linn at the CCRMA discussing alternative controllers in this video posted earlier today.

snip:
"Updated May 4, 2011

One of my (Roger) greatest interests is the current evolution of new musical instruments that take advantage of new technology. If I put on my idealist hat, I start thinking things like:

* Guitars are wonderful but they go out of tune, can't play chords and melody at the same time, can't play more than 6 notes at the same time, require two hands to make single notes, always produce a sharp-attack envelope, require 3 fingerings for each chord because of that pesky 3rd interval between the G and B strings, and the spaces between frets are big at one end and small at the other.

* Keyboards are wonderful but they require learning a different chord fingering for each of 12 keys, can't produce vibrato or other pitch nuances directly on the keys, can't vary the attack or decay time directly on the keys, and are long and heavy. Electronic keyboards attempt to overcome some of these limitations with transposition switches, pitch bend and modulation wheels, pitch strips, key pressure and more, but none of these enhancements have been useful enough to professionl players to properly overcome the basic limitations of the keyboard.

* Violin and other bowed instruments are great but can't play more than 2 notes at a time, are very difficult to learn to play in tune, have limited pitch range, and violins are (literally) a pain in the neck.

* Reed/wind instruments are great but they can't play more than one note at a time and require learning different scale fingerings for each of 12 keys.

People have been coming up with new ways to improve musical instruments for just about forever, but what interests me personally are the new ideas that break entirely with existing mechanical interfaces in favor of high-tech sensor interfaces, and particularly ones that can produce--or at least attempt to attain--finely nuanced musical subtlety. I've compiled the following descriptions and links to some of the ones I find interesting--some shipping, some formerly shipping, some shipping in future and some unique ideas that may never ship. Click the links below to go to each product's site to learn more and see demonstration videos."
