Silk for iPad

Mat from microscopics wrote in letting me know about a new iPad app he has just released. It's not a synth, but rather a drawing app with synth generated ambient music in the background, and a wind chime effect while drawing. "The soundtrack and all sounds were made on the Arp Odyssey and Jupiter 6." You might remember the name Microscopics from various synth posts featured on this site as well as Osmos.

Silk  - Yuri Vishnevsky - iTunes

"With the swish of a finger, anyone can create beautiful, flowing art. An ethereal, relaxing soundscape brings you into a world where strands of color spring from your fingertips.

Silk strands mingle and fuse, weaving together into works of art.

Features:
- The official app of weavesilk.com, with millions of users.
- Create gorgeous wallpapers with the swish of a finger.
- Original music and sound composed for the Silk experience."

The top two pics are mine and the bottom two are from iTunes. Obviously, I tried creating a green M for MATRIXSYNTH. In the second shot I just added a line under the M and there it was - the MATRIXSYNTH M synth cat silhouette was born. :)

This was my first ever instrument when i was 4 years old. I was wating too long to make something with this! So this is a music track from this and only with this. It has an exeptional meaning for me...

Reverb, delay, some chorus and an octaver for the organ bass. All sounds are presets of the PT-82. No other instrument is responsible for this track."

Yamaha CS01II plays ICE MACHINE by Depeche Mode

YouTube Uploaded by peahix on May 18, 2011

"Download this track here: http://snd.sc/jE70lS

The Yamaha CS01II is the first real synthesizer I ever owned. I got it when I was about 14 years old, back in 1985 or so. I noticed that I could get reasonable approximations of most of the sounds from Depeche Mode's "Speak & Spell" album with it, but at the time I didn't have the means to make decent multi-track cover versions, even after I got a 4-track.

Recently I was studying the Depeche Mode 5.1 surround mixes, and realized that I could clearly hear all the distinct parts of alot of the songs, so I decided to throw together some renditions using just my trusty old Yamaha CS01II as the sole sound source (including the drums), just to see how close I could get to the originals.

This version has no vocals at all, but otherwise it comes pretty close to the original. The actual musical arrangement is about 100% accurate. The sounds themselves are of course only approximations, and most of them don't have the same level of timbral detail as the ARP originals. I sequenced the whole thing in Cubase via a Kenton Pro Solo going into the custom CV/Gate inputs on my CS01II, recording each monophonic line in one at a time. Cubase provided the reverb and EQ, otherwise it's all CS01II."

Serenity to Madness, and Back

"An ambient journey through the possibilities of a Roland Handsonic HPD10, a Roland SP-404sx sampler, and a set of Roland PK-5a pedals. The idea for this setup came to me in a dream while I was on a 40-day solitary music retreat in the Himalayas in 2009, and this composition, "Serenity to Madness, and Back," is inspired by Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Vangelis, and Photek, with nods to the demigods of dubstep and Detroit techno.

Making Music with the MSSIAH Sequencer

Uploaded by 8bitventures on Aug 11, 2009

"This video demos how to use the MSSIAH Sequencer to create music with the Commodore 64.
It's as simple as with any other modern MAC or PC Sequencer. In this video the Sequencer is controlled with a
1351 mouse but it may also be operated with an Amiga or Atari mouse, ordinary C64 joystick, the keyboard itself or a PC mouse using a 1351 mouse adapter (such as the Micromys).
The MSSIAH Sequencer application can be switched to full MIDI mode in which it functions as a MIDI module being multi-timbral, polyphonic or a mix of both modes.

The MSSIAH Cartridge is a hardware cartridge with a built in MIDI interface and plugs into the back of your Commodore 64. It contains a variety of music applications that make your old Commodore computer play along the other gear in your studio.
MSSIAH Cartridge sells for EUR 49,95 and is available for purchase at our online store.
More info at: http://www.mssiah.com

In this video the MSSIAH Sequencer uses five channels of audio on the Commodore 64 still the SID (audio circuit in the C64) only had three oscillators available.
This is made possible by adding another SID to the computer giving a total of six tracks in MSSIAH Sequencer.
The cleanest way to put in the additional SID circuit is by using the SID2SID, a DIY circuit board also available for purchase at our online store."

The module is shown here mounted in our new four rail open Euro frame with rear mounted Triple 1A PSU module and our new ModMix module. The combination provides a very high specification, comprehensive modular synthesizer front end.

Please note: this module is neither a product of Hinton Instruments nor EMS (Cornwall), nor is it going to be. It was only possible to produce because a client had a spare vintage EMS pcb, but it does illustrate the type of custom work we can turn around."
