Bliptronome - Monome Conversion

via this auction

"Bliptronome (converted Bliptronic 5000), which acts as a fully functional monome with the added bonus of 4 rotary encoders I've added a sweet wood grain veneer to the case to make them really sexy. The device works on the arduino platform.

I've used the devices for about a year now so there's a scratch or two here or there. Nothing serious at all. All buttons and encoders work just fine and have good response time. Comes with FTDI cable for computer funzies as well as original packaging.

Rhodes Chroma CC+ Upgrade Turns Six

CC+ firmware release 215 offers Random Patch Generator, Support for Parameter feedback for ‘knob boxes’ and more.

via David Clarke on the Rhodes Chroma list. If you are interested in the Rhodes Chroma, be sure to check out the excellent http://rhodeschroma.com/

"Happy Birthday to the CC+.

The first CC+ orders were placed in June, 2006. Now five years later, these boards are still being produced and we’re still adding features suggested by CC+ users.

The newly released version of firmware (215) adds the following items:

* Support for transmission of Monophonic (Channel) Pressure via MIDI
* Program 0 SYSEX dump via [Set Split 20]
* Random Patch Generation with [Set Split 38]
* 'MIDI CC Data Request' SYSEX command

As well, operation has been updated such that a Program 0 SYSEX receive will automatically redefine the main and link instruments according to the new program.

Mono Pressure
-------------

[Set Split 36] + P16 (MIDI Pressure Mode) now gives users a choice as to whether they would like to transmit MIDI pressure as Polyphonic/Key pressure messages or Monophonic/Channel Pressure messages.

Setting P16 to "Pol" selects Polyphonic/Key pressure messages.
Setting P16 to "Chnl" selects Monophonic/Channel Pressure messages.

Program 0 SYSEX Dump/Receive
----------------------------

Pressing [Set Split 20] sends the current program over MIDI as a single program 0 SYSEX message.

Sending the 'program 0' SYSEX message back to the Chroma will make that patch the currently sounding one.

Together, these features can be used to allow a user to create a specific patch they like, send it to a sequencer for storage - and then to have the sequencer download just that the patch to the Chroma, so that you can always ensure that a sequence is playing exactly the patch of interest.

Random Patch Generator
----------------------

Pressing [Set Split 38] creates a random patch. A new random patch is created each time that key combination is pressed.

CC Parameter Dump Request
-------------------------

Sending the following SYSEX string to the Chroma will prompt the Chroma to dump all parameters of its current program via MIDI.

F0 08 00 4B 59 00 38 F7

This command is provided to allow parameter feedback for such editors as the BCR2000. Specifically - by programming this string into the 'Data Request' feature of the box, the current parameter state can be echoed back to the encoder rings.

Such a feature could also be used with other editors that support similar functionality.

Further information on these features is available on-line via the CC+ User's Manual (http://www.rhodeschroma.com/?id=cpuplusmanual) and in the CC+'s Firmware page (http://www.rhodeschroma.com/?id=cpuplusfirmware).

Please continue to raise new feature ideas here for discussion - and if there are items that users agree would be good to add, we'll certainly consider adding them.

Thank you for your continued interest.

(NOTE: CC+ units currently being built will ship with firmware version 215 pre-installed)."

Chunky Move - Mortal Engine, Crossmedia Performance 2008

YouTube Uploaded by MediaArtTube on Jun 1, 2011

"Mortal Engine is a dance-video-music-laser performance using movement and sound responsive projections to portray an ever-shifting, shimmering world in which the limits of the human body are an illusion. Crackling light and staining shadows represent the most perfect or sinister of souls. Kinetic energy fluidly metamorphoses from the human figure into light image, into sound and back again. Choreography is focused on movement of unformed beings in an unfamiliar landscape searching to connect and evolve in a constant state of becoming. Veering between moments of exquisite cosmological perfection and grotesque evolutionary accidents of existence, we are driven forward by the reality of permanent change.

Rugged Circuits BeatVox

via BeatVox

"The BeatVox Shield for Arduino is one of the least expensive ways to add sounds to your project. It can use only 1 or 2 I/O pins to make sound (depending on whether you want mono or stereo output) and leaves SPI and I2C free for other shields -- shields that easily stack on top of the BeatVox stacking headers. Sounds can be stored either on a 512Kbyte NAND FLASH on the BeatVox or right in the FLASH memory of the Arduino itself.

This is not a “kit”, there is nothing to solder, and no extra connectors or components to buy. It is fully assembled and ready to work right out of the box. Compatible with Arduino Uno, Duemilanove, Mega/Mega2560, Ruggeduino, or other Arduino-compatible boards."

via WilliamK

Rugged Circuits Flexible MIDI Shield

via Rugged Circuits

"The Flexible MIDI Shield for Arduino adds MIDI IN and MIDI OUT connections for working with musical equipment. Use it to control MIDI synthesizers, respond to MIDI keyboard events, or even as a USB-to-MIDI converter. The mechanical size and shape of the shield, along with included stacking headers, allows other shields to stack on top so you can add even more functionality.

Flexibility comes from being able to select which pins are used for MIDI IN (Rx) and MIDI OUT (Tx). You can use the built-in hardware serial port pins D0 and D1 or you can select from many other serial pins and use the SoftwareSerial (or NewSoftSerial) libraries, while keeping the D0/D1 pins free for USB communication. Additional flexibility comes from being able to upload sketches without flipping any switches, even if your sketch uses D0/D1 (USB serial pins).

Benjolin Workshop, with Rob Hordijk (4th June 2011)

"Build your own electronic fun-box

In a one-day workshop conducted by legendary synth builder Rob Hordijk , participants will build the Benjolin, an analog sound-device that is very different from what you usually will find with other DIY-kits. This kit will ONLY be available through the workshop, it is not for sale separately. The class cost is just €70, plus a materials fee of €80. You will bring home an analog synth, and you can tell everyone that you`ve build it yourself!

The Benjolin is a ‘noise box’ that is ‘bent by design’, meaning that it always has a definite amount of unpredictability while it is still intuitive to play. The Benjolin features two eighteen-octave range voltage controlled oscillators that drive a ‘rungler’ circuit, circuitry that in essence uses a special interference technique feeding back into the oscillators to force them into wild chaotic behaviour. A special slightly chaotic filter is both excited and modulated by the signals from the rungler circuitry processes, producing sounds between fat drones to grungy noise havoc. The kit is somewhat challenging to build, but with a little patience and accuracy a beginner in DIY can definitely do it successfully."
