Rare Vintage BODE FEEDBACK STABILIZER

via this auction
"Up for auction is a rare BODE 742XR "Feedback Stabilizer". Apparently, this is a variation on Harold Bode's "Frequency Shifter" design (as used by Moog in the coveted Moog modular series).
This version was originally geared towards feedback suppression applications (hence the name), and was generally used for live sound situations. I'm told that it has potential for modification into the "frequency shifter" zone, but, haven't really looked into it further. I DID, however, put signal through it, and it does seem to alter the audio (a phasing "tremolo" effect, of sorts), albeit subtle. The potential for modding it to do more seems to be there, but I'll leave that for the next owner to figure out. Generally, it does seem to work as originally intended, but could probably use calibration.
On the back are two empty sockets for line input/output transformers, which were offered as an option (which would be accessed via the barrier strip on the back of the unit) but are not necessary to the functioning of the unit, as the inputs and outputs on the front are the "normal" connections. Here's a link: http://www.vasulka.org/archive/Artists1/Bode,Harald/FeedbackSynth.pdf"

Triadex Muse Vintage Music Synth 1st Digital Instrument

via this auction

"The Triadex Muse is the first digital musical composition instrument. It's a sequencer based tone synthesizer and it was first produced in 1972. It measures 10 inches high x 11 inches deep x 13-1/2 inches wide Essentially, the Muse is a deterministic algorithmic event generator that uses early digital integrated logic circuits to generate an audio output that produces a sequence of notes based on the settings of various parameters.
The front panel sliders, which control the melodies that are generated, allow for the possibility of 14 trillion musical note combinations. The included manual provides exact instructions. The musical computer is housed in a sleek mid-century modern wedge shaped finished wood and brushed aluminum case. The four small sliders in the lower-left control Volume, Tempo, Pitch, and Fine Pitch. The switches to either side of the sliders are used to start and stop the sequence, or to step through it note-by-note.
Of the eight larger sliders on the right, four control the musical intervals used (labeled A, B, C, and D), and four control the theme (labeled W, X, Y, and Z). There is also a "Rest" toggle switch at the lower right which acts as a "lowest note". Located at the upper left of the unit panel is the internal speaker. Additionally, the Muse can be slaved to that of another Muse, allowing for multi-part compositions.

In the 1970's when most synthesized music makers were huge and cost thousands, the Triadex Muse was a reasonably sized tabletop model and cost $300. Only a few hundred were produced and they were never made available in stores. The Muse was designed by two famed MIT professors, Marvin Minsky and Edward Fredkin. At the time, Minsky was moonlighting on the movie set of '2001 A Space Odyssey', teaching Stanley Kubrick about Artificial Intelligence as he created Hal.
Isaac Asimov described Minsky as one of only two people he would admit were more intelligent than he was, the other being Carl Sagan.
Ed Fredkin was an early pioneer of digital physics. In 1980, Carnegie Mellon U. created the Fredkin Prize, to be awarded to the creators of the first computer to win the World Chess Championship. The prize was paid out to IBM's Deep Blue in 1997 for beating world chess champion Gary Kasparov in the final game of a tied, six-game match. Deep Blue was a parallel supercomputer that processed an average of 200 million chess positions per second, and the first chess machine to draw and beat a world chess champion in a regulation game, and the first chess machine to beat the world champion in a regulation match. The cosmetic condition of this Muse is excellent as it's only been taken out for this demonstration. The original box, instruction manual, papers, & tags are included with the Muse

"Thanks for watching!

This is a video that I made today down the studio showing what you can achieve by running a piano through Ableton and a few effects in realtime. What you can't see (or hear unfortunately!) is the MC909 which is sitting on the chair in front of the camera for dropping beats. I was enjoying just playing with the piano so much that I never got around to pressing play on it.. :]

Hope you like the video - any questions or comments then just let me know! For the record, this video isn't intended to show off my piano skills (or lack of) so try to be gentle with comments about my dodgy playing. All the music is just improvised on the spot.

Thanks,

Simon"

TouchControl - Multitouch Monome Emulator and Midi Controller

YouTube Uploaded by GrmcomMultitouch on Jun 7, 2011

"TouchControl Software Demonstration.

TouchControl is a program that allows you to turn your Multi Touch display into a controller for audio or video software. What seperates TouchControl from other control applications is the inclusion of a Monome 40h emulator.

In this video I am using TouchControl with Ableton Live 8.
The midi faders have been assigned to track levels, scene triggers, and effects. The monome section is using osc messages to communicate with a max for live sequencer patch, which in turn is outputting midi notes to a drum rack.

I wrote the software using python and the PyMT framework.

Big thanks to the PyMT developers and Nuigroup Community"

KORG KR-55 analog drum machine w DINSYNC and sep. outs

via this auction
"The KR-55 has very punchy analog sounds that rival the Tr-808. The presets are a combination of all the usual beatbox patterns (samba!), with more modern ones (disco!) This specific unit has been modified by my tech Ramcur to receive a Roland-style din-sync signal. You can sync it to classic gear or to midi with a MIDI to DINSYNC converter (not included). Ramcur also added seperate outputs for the different instruments. These two modifications make it possible to use the KR in professional setup. It's a very rare mod so you're not likely to ever come across a KR-55 like this again. The machine also received basic servicing at the same time."

These three pieces utilized indeterminate processes to achieve a dense, aural moire effect with an economy of elements. Vintage 1978 Yamaha CS-15 Analog Synth

via this auction

"It is practically 2 analog synthesizers in one, it contains nearly 2 of everything (excluding the LFO, which is the fastest LFO I've ever heard from any of the analog synths I have owned) it has 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs (both selectable Hi, band, low pass) and 2 EGs! It was a very tough decision to sell this or my Roland SH-101, but I decided to keep the Roland only due to it's smaller size and portability, even though the CS-15 has a lot larger range of tones and sounds. It comes complete with an original product brochure."
