Korg Monopoly

via this auction

"This synth is extremely powerful and a lot of fun to experiment with. It can be played as a 4osc mono lead synth or a 4voice multi synth. Truly a classic and this particular unit is a gem. As an interesting side note, one of Korg's most influential product engineers Yasuhiko Mori named the Korg Mono/Poly his favorite Korg synth ever made. There is also plenty of external control available with CV and Gate Ins."

SIMMONS CLAP TRAP

YouTube Uploaded by holyghostnyc on Jun 25, 2011

via this auction
"Here's a rundown of the various functions/knobs...

AUTOSPEED: This controls the speed of the internal sequencer or "AUTO" mode and was one of the repaired controls. The pot is original but the wiring to the board was replaced. Works as it should.

AUDIO SENSITIVITY: This is the sensitivity for the external trigger input. You adjust the knob according to the type of signal. I.E. a trigger from a drum pad would require higher sensitivity than line level audio like, say, a sound from a drum machine. Works as it should but as you can see the knob itself is not original.

PITCH (CLAP): This controls the pitch of the clap sample. This is one of the pots that was completely replaced. Works as it should.

DECAY (CLAP): This sounds pretty self explanatory but if you've ever played with one of these things you know it's not quite a true "decay" in the traditional sense. Yes, when at it's lowest setting you get a very tight short sample and the sound will increase with length as you turn it up BUT as get to around the 3 o'clock position the it actually starts to loop a part of the sample in a very strange way. You can hear it in the video link below. It's pretty wild sounding and works as it should.

PITCH (NOISE): Another weird one as this knob isn't so much a pitch control for the noise but a filter for the noise. You can here it in the video. This pot is other that was totally replaced and as you can see the knob is not original but it works exactly as it should.

DECAY (NOISE): This controls the decay for the noise. At it's lowest setting you get very tight percussive white noise attacks and at it's highest you get nice long noise crashes. Works as it should.

BALANCE: This is basically a crossfader for the clap sample and the noise. When at 0 all you will hear is the clap and at 10 all you will hear is the white noise. It's worth mentioning that the noise a bit louder than the clap which is to say that with the knob centered, the noise will be louder than the clap. Not sure if this is normal or not and, of course, you can still get a good even balance by turing the knob slightly more towards the clap but, again, thought it was worth mentioning.

LEVEL: This the volume knob and power switch. Pretty self explanatory. Works as it should.

AUTO BUTTON: This engages the internal non programmable sequencer.

HUMANIZER: This is very cool function that when engaged slightly randomizes the clap sample's pitch resulting in a slightly more realistic - or "human" - feel. Sometime it takes the button a few tries to engage as you can see in the video it does work most of the time.

TRIGGER: This is the manual trigger which you can use to play the clap trap by hand without an external trigger/pad."

"A quick and dirty montage (shot & edited on iPod) of Brian Dewan and Leon Dewan's set on 7/2/2011 at the Bing Bang Boing festival in Catskill, NY. I was able to grab a few snaps of their early Swarmatron prototype and the amazing Dual Primate Console.

Nearly impossible to see in these clips are the three 8-track tape players at center stage. Post-show, Leon explained the tapes were being fed into the DPC, where they were chopped and processed.

Sadly, the mic on the iPod does no justice to the sound happening in the room. It did, however, pick up the resident barn swallows."

"Hey hey i Mexico" - on Technics SX-C600

YouTube Uploaded by organfairy on Jul 3, 2011

"This is primarily a camera test. I had to buy a new camera because the old one died. So to test the picture quality and synchronization I played a song and recorded it as one long shot.

So this is the quality that my videos will have in the future. It might improve slightly when I get a new computer because I had to convert the QuickTime format from the camera to Windows Media in order to get Movie Maker to edit it. I understand that the movie maker in Windows 7 can accept QuickTime files. So I might be able to avoid the conversion.

The song is "Hey hey i Mexico" that was a hit for Danish duo Alice & Rita in the early 1970's. It might be a Danish cover of a French, German, or English song. I don't know because there is practically nothing written about Alice & Rita online. If anybody knows something please comment.

I play the Technics SX-C600 organ and a little bit on Roland SH-2000 synthesizer."

This is an amazing workstation and synthesizer built upon the MR series keyboards previously released in 1996. The ZR series keyboards rock the EXP 4 Perfect Piano Expanison Card by William Coakley and still today, produce a rich, unique warm sound one could expect from Ensoniq. This demo was written entirely on the ZR-76 using only stock sounds."

Serge Modular - The Musicians Tapes - Plugz and Socketz (Best Serge Demo I've heard)

YouTube Uploaded by ChristopherHillman on May 5, 2011

"I came across some of my old synth demo-tapes from the 80's ..This is from the Serge Modular Music Systems demo-sales-tape but there's no info on the names of the artists (unless ithey were listed in some literature that isn't with the tape at the moment)

The only other time I've heard this song is when I saw the x-video "New Wave Hookers" and it was playing in the backround. They were listed in the credits as the "Plugz and Socketz".

Sorry it's really the same 20 pics going round and round but I should actually be building an animatronic mechanical-parrot right now.

If anyone wants someday I figured I'd upload the other old synth demos of the Kurzweil 250, Emax, Armonyx Synth, etc. ..it'll be loooong off though..been months behind on everYthinG in life here ..computers, synths, animatronic building, website, artwork etc.etc."

Red Sound DarkStar synthesizer

via this auction

"This is a very early Red Sound DarkStar analogue modelling synth, made in England in 1999 - this one has a sub-250 serial number. It's a lovely synth capable of a great range of sounds: from the dark, heavy wobble basses so beloved of the dubstep crowd through to lush pads and everything in between. As well as being versatile it's very tweakable, in that almost all of important controls are accessible via knobs or the joystick - the latter being a really cool way of bringing movement into the sounds."
