Monnix for iOS & New Sequence Based App on the Way

Monnix - Chris Jeffs - iTunes
iPads on eBay
iPod Touch on eBay

"Is that a cat's meow, a vocodered scream or an out of control robot? What kind of strange sounds could you make with Monnix? This live performance synthesizer uses three points of touch to control the distribution of up to 16 harmonics, allowing for unique sound effects. Movements can be played back in the Replay page and the pitch altered by tilting the device forward. The Sample & Hold screen freezes the partials according to the selected tempo. FM ratio, jitter and envelope parameters can be set in the remaining pages, allowing for a wide variety of sonic mayhem. Whether you need something extra for your next experimental concert, or you just like to have fun making weird noises, Monnix has something to offer you."

http://chrisjeffs.com/monnix/. Chris is also working on a new app which appears to be sequence based (bottom pic).

Note this bottom image is not from Monnix, but rather a new app in the works mentioned here.

FaceOSC

FaceOSC from Kyle McDonald on Vimeo.

"FaceOSC is a tool for prototyping face-based interaction. It's built on non-commercial open source FaceTracker code from Jason Saragih.

FaceOSC comes as an example app with the ofxFaceTracker addon for openFrameworks. You can download an OSX binary at github.com/downloads/kylemcdonald/ofxFaceTracker/FaceOSC.zip

OSCulator is an excellent program for routing OSC and MIDI. Download it at osculator.net/

Some of the "face gestures" (or metrics) are more stable than others. Lighting can also have a huge influence on the stability of your values: even lighting from the front coupled with a dark background can give the best results."

Vestax DDG-X2 Digital Delay - Flanger, Modulation

via this auction
"The Vestax DDG-X2 is great for any genre and any playing style. It is equipped with a large LED display, grounding post for direct connection to a turntable, and easy to use controls for great effects and loops.

Vestax DDG-X2 Features:

LED Display : The large LED display facilitates two basic functions. The top section displays the current meter, or the meter setting (like a metronome), whilst the bottom (numeric) section shows any adjustments to time/BPM and the current settings.
Depth Control : The depth control adjusts the setting of the delay's sweep (depth) from zero to maximum. For example, with the delay time set to 2ms the sweep range can be adjusted (real-time) from 1ms to 4ms. (ms=milliseconds)
Feedback Control : Both the number of echoes (feedback) and the aural richness (dark/bright/color) of any input sound can be altered by using the Vestax DDG-X2 feedback controls.
Tap Button : Matching the BPM of your input source is easy with the TAP button. Each tap is equivalent to one beat, so tap in time with your source to set the tempo. The first four taps will initialize the count sequence, with the following taps being averaged to correct and maintain the precise BPM. No more fiddling with numeric controls that take up valuable mix time, just tap in time and create some great delay effects.
Effect Controls : Through the two effect control faders you can set the input level and make any adjustments to the effects output as desired. The effects switch bypasses the delay, returning the input signal to its original signal. The hold switch, when on, puts the delay signal in a hold pattern until you turn it to off."

"Circuit Bent Korg Kaossilator - KAOSS BOX

I've been struggling to come up with a video for this, so I decided to just go for it and do a simple jam to show what the unit can do. It starts of a bit slow but gradually gets better. The glitch bends can do alot more but I think you get the idea. I will do another vid with it hooked up to my sequencer soon.

The mods are:

Full Kaossilator Bolted onto box

Pitch Down

Switchable Pitch down LDR

LFO with Rate Control Knob and Rainbow LED indicator

Two Types of LFO on three way switch

4x Ring Mods switches

3x Glitch Switches (the unit does need to be switched off/on when your finished with these bends to get everything back to normal)

The Switch in the middle of Glitch switches gives a nice double up thing on the sounds!

1/4" Jack to hook up to Homemade sequence

Hope you like it.....I do!!"

MINI-SYNTHY by T. Danko M3 emthree

via this auction

Googlish description:

"That thing is called 'Mini-Synth' and I must really be extremely rare. It is probably something like an effect unit for guitar or something. Power supply must be installed as a 9V battery.

And how does that sound now? Difficult to describe. Is probably something simple like a synthesizer for guitar?

If you put into it when a guitar input and the whole thing connects to the amplifier, well, I'd say the guitar signal in such a way Square wave and converted into three separately controllable .... Broken octaves or so. Then there there's a hard-soft switches. Since I do not really know what you want, for me it sounds more like a loud-soft.

I think that was once intended as a substitute for synth-guitar bands.

The unit has a sturdy metal casing and looks pretty good, I would say almost as good as new. Perhaps what strange effect devices for collectors.

Another note for the fashion-conscious guitarists: You can wear the chic device at the belt! (At the back are hooks)"

RMI DK-20 (USA) Digital Synthesizer...from 1980s

via this auction

"Rare very early digital synthesizer from 1981/2. Three seperate outputs ~ bass/solo & treble ~ in zones across the keyboard. Preset or user-change. Non-velocity basic polyphonic organ/clavinet/lute/bass tones with vibrato variants and decay/sustain features. Wired for 110vAC (Convertor to 220/240Vac supplied). Legs and top lid complete the package....legs collapse and spring-lock for transport. Casing made of tough PVC-type material. Weight about 50 Kgs. Mains cord has US plug.

HISTORY Made in USA by RMI (of 368X prog-rock fame). Imported by KK. There is evidence it was from a college. This would explain the near-mint condition. The DK-20 was RMI's attempt at digital synthesis; in 1981 this was the beginning of an age of synthesizers.....ARP/Moog/Oberheim to name a few more famous...."

1978 Keynote Musical Instruments Stage Scorpion Ad

via Retro Synth Ads where you'll find the write-up.

"Keynote Musical Instruments Ltd. Scorpion Stage Synthesizer 1-page advertisement from page 189 in International Musician and Recording World December 1978 (UK)."

Update: Details are in:

"The Scorpion is being advertised as the first British lead line synthesizer. It is not the first British synthesizer by any means but, as far as I know, it is the only one that has been introduced to compete with the smaller stage synthesizers like the Micro Moog, Arp Axxe, etc.

It is simple to understand, easy to operate synth, aimed at the person who has been frightened off using a variable synthesizer because of his/her lack of understanding of synth jargon and technical terms (the owner's manual contains information on not only how to operate the synthesizer, but also how the different parts of the synthesizer affect the final sound.)"

Two oscillators
Programmable with eight presets
Keyboard pressure bend
Delayed modulation

You can find the full specs in this new Retro Synth Ads post.
