"Apple has released iMKS-7 for Roland MKS-7

iMKS-7 v1.2 offers:
• Independent and configurable MIDI channels with independent configurable parameters for the MELODY, CHORD and BASS parts
• "Demultiplexing" of some bytes (ex: byte 17) that shares up to 5 parameters. Those bytes are split into individual / independent parameters making the MKS-7 straightforward to control.

4-Controls per Parameter
• Slider: full range parameter value adjustment for a ‘coarse’ workflow
• + button: precise +1 parameter value adjustment for a ‘fine’ workflow
• - button: precise -1 parameter value adjustment for a ‘fine’ workflow
• Parameter default value button: pressing the parameter value label / button sets this parameter to a default value for a faster workflow (ex: DCO wave = Saw; VCF frequency = wide open; etc...)

Parameter Name and Value:
• Name (ex: Saw): as written in the User Manual
• Value (ex: On): as written in the User Manual, dynamically changes when you use one of the 4 controls (slider, + button, - button, parameter default value button)"

Garage / Tag Sale Finds

Just a couple of items I found at two garage sales today. A Yamaha Motif for $2k and a Yamaha PSS-480. I picked up the PSS-480 for $5. It turned out the seller was Discriminate Music and knew about MATRIXSYNTH! :) Small world. There was also a Casiotone there, but I was caught up talking to the seller and didn't take a shot of it.

Vintage 80's Gleeman Pentaphonic synthesizer

via this auction

"This is an early Gleeman that was sent back to the factory (Mr Gleeman's garage) for every update that was offered. It has had the interval tuning mod, the 100 patch memories (50 factory 50 user), and an independent control of white noise (the extra knob pictured) ALL MODS were performed by the Gleeman brothers and work great. I am assuming that because this is an early machine the overlays that would normally be on the back of the machine and around the presetter/joystick were removed to perform the mods and not reattached. Besides the factory mods this machine is all original. You can tell that alot of the casing was hand cut because there is the occasional tooling mark on the casing.

This machine looks sharp and has been well taken care of as you can tell by the pictures. Three reasons to own a Gleeman are the powerful unique sounds, the unique architecture of the insturment, and the hands on interface. These features combine to keep you inspired and playing for hours. I get into what I call "the Gleeman trance" I start playing with it and before I know it five hours have passed.

These machines are about as rare as a unicorn, but rarety has never impressed me. I would put a Gleeman up against the best polysynths ever made any day. It also does not sound like any other synth in my opinion. In a world of software emulators and virtual synths it is important to me to be able to get some unique sounds without much effort.

This machine does have a built in amp and speaker that sounds cool but the best way to hear it is through its quarter inch audio outs. I am sure it is obvious a world class synth sounds better plugged into a console instead of an eight inch car speaker."

ARP Sequencer with Original Manuals

via this auction
"1613 model, serial number 50... This is probably the coolest and most versatile analog sequencer ever built. If you've never tried one, they're amazing. For instance there are at least 9 simultaneous outs available for patching. It clocks, steps and resets from nicely from the trigger out of analog drum machines such as a TR-808 or 909 in tight sync so that you can program the individual step rates. It will add a keyboard CV to the quantized outs so that you can run it as 2 independent 8 step arpeggiators. It will also run at audio rates, effectively becoming a voltage controlled oscillator with the sliders controlling the waveshape a la Ian Fritz and a VC pulsewidth. These features are all tested, working and awesome.

It's worth mentioning that the sequencer powers on with the clock running. I'm not sure if Arp designed them that way, but my model 1623 does it too, and this has no effect on the function of the sequencer, everything works as it should. This is a really awesome machine, that will make anyone searching for an analog sequencer very happy."

CGS RanDivide in Modcan / Cynthia Format

via this auction

See the seller's other items for more.

"RanDivide is a creative combination of Ken's Voltage Controlled "Divide by N" Frequency Divider circuit and his clock driven Digital Noise and Random Pulse Generator!

http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/index.html

A wide variety of interesting "Noise" effects and random timing events are possible when varying the frequency of the incoming clock. This useful combination of two completely different types of circuits allows the use of the Divider section output as the incoming clock for the Digital Noise Section!

The Divider will divide the frequency of an input as much as 60 times down in "pitch" in proportion to the level of the incoming control voltage. The PULSE output is symmetrical, while the alternate PWM Output jack preserves whatever duty-cycle is present in the incoming clock, (This allows the further use of phase timing throughout your patches).

If you really want to get crazy, you can also use the random timing pulses of the Digital Noise section as the input to the Frequency Divider section instead! RanDivide adds many new capabilities to your system with a single module!"

CGS Psycho Shift-Register in Modcan Format

via this auction

See the seller's other items for more.

"Ken's latest development is his own modern and improved design of an Arabesque Pattern Generator similar to the classic Serge Analog Shift Register schematic originally published in Synapse years ago.

When clocked, this delightful circuit will sample the incoming analog voltage at each pulse, and sequentially shift the stored voltage progressively down a row of three outputs . The Psycho Shift-Register can be used for example, to repeat a melody of control voltages around to several successive oscillator voices - Just like a choral group singing repeating melodies in four-part round-robin style.

Thus it is incredibly useful for auto-compositional harmonies as it is, but what sets this version apart is that in this module it is combined with a certain popular little quad LFO called The Psycho LFO which is also from the lineage of the Australian Cat Girl Synth system.

While Ken Stone may in fact be the Other Unicorn, I'm sure that he never imagined this kooky combination of his clever critters!

Of course the ASR and Quad LFO sections can work independently... However when the "Link" switch is thrown, one of the oscillators acts as a simple clock driving the Analog Shift Register, while the other three are free to create the jumble of control voltages that the register actually shifts!

"Doctor It's Alive!"

Well, not exactly Igor, but an exclusive control voltage "Modulation" input has a hand in adding more of your own animation to the Monster. The unique "Blend" and "Character" controls are useful for transforming the total output from something joyous to downright disturbing!

It's your creature - You can decide it's fate!

The prognosis here Doctor, is that this Psycho Shift-Register is the very first of it's kind that has mutated into being capable of thinking for itself! Naturally these need very careful supervision... I prescribe ordering one for your studio immediately!"
