TLN-156 Neural Agonizer

"The TLN-156 Neural Agonizer is a voltage controlled spring reverb processor. Although this module can be used to simulate room reverb with most audio signals, it includes numerous enhancements specifically designed for interfacing to a modular synthesizer. If you're looking for a smooth, natural sounding reverb system to make your synthesizer sound like its being played in the Concertgebouw, then go buy a Lexicon. This is not your grandmother's reverb tank, this is a noxious tool capable of inflicting some serious damage to your audio..."

New Mattson Mini Modular Starter Systems & Summer Sale

via George Mattson:

""I have compiled a couple of starter system packages for the enthusiasts who wish to just get started without making a lot of choices.

I have a version with a MIDI/Cv converter and a version without the MIDI but, it is replaced with a front panel power control and a Utility 1 module.
Technically, my thoughts were that one system can be utilized for tonal creations while the other can be used for the more allegoric desires.

But, hey, they're modulars...You can do whatever you want :)

Choices for each system are either a horizontal or a vertical case format and, a choice of Maple or walnut for the case material. Walnut costs $15.00 more than the maple.

The systems are similar to my original basic system configuration from four years ago with the following changes:

Two VCO's instead of one. (second VCO replaced the Glide module)
The newer Voltage Controlled Dual LFO in place of the non VC LFO.
A 4-channel Voltage Controlled Mixer in place of the manual 4-channel Mixer.

The rest of the modules are the same. Detailed information can be found on our WIKI site at: http://www.mattsonminimodular.com/wiki/index.php?title=Starter_Systems

The total cost of the packaged systems are both about $200.00 less than purchasing all of the components individually.

Trouble by DJ Lace, early version

"This is an early render of "Trouble", one of the live PA tracks in my august 20th live show at Open Studios, Vancouver. The original footage is public domain from archive.org. all the music and video is triggered in realtime using Ableton, jp8080, A-station, and Midividgpu."

via Lace of CanMARC
"The live rig consists of a laptop running Ableton/APC40, a rack case containing JP- 8080 , A-station, Supernova2, the Canmarc XOXbox, and a custom video PC with a gtx560 gaming card running midi controlled video (Midividgpu) software with it's audio output going through a boss re-20.

Although I have the edirol m-16dx mixer, I'm just using it at as an audio interface and all the hardware synths are mixed in Ableton, using the session view and dummy clips controlled by the APC40.

Everything is triggered via midi in realtime including all the audio and video clips, and the whole thing is mixed live audio and video the way I'll be doing it onstage august 20th at Open studio here in Vancouver BC. I hope you enjoy it."

Bleep Labs Neon Indian - PAL198X

via Bleep Labs
"We’re proud to announce our newest device, The PAL198X.

This limited edition mini analog synthesizer is based on the Pico Paso with a few modifications designed by Dr. Bleep and Alan Palomo of Neon Indian. The biggest addition are swappable controls which allow you to easily attach the included potentiometers or photocells (or a number of other devices we’ll post about later) in any configuration to the three oscillators to create all kinds of triangle wave chaos.

- Two triangle wave oscillators which can be activated independently or together, modulating each other.
- Square LFO which affects the amplitude of both triangle oscillators.
- 1/4″ out.
- Screw terminals allow any resistive device to control the pitch of the three oscillators.
- 9v battery powered.

Only available in the limited edition Era Extraña package from Neon Indian.

Stay tuned for mods and hacking info…."

PAL198X by Dr. Bleep

This one in via Scott who spotted the new Neon Indian release on Pitchfork:

"Alan Palomo on the PAL198X: 'It can interact with a variety of objects around your house whether electronic in nature or not. It can even interact with your pet.'...

The synth (named PAL198X, of course) was produced by Bleep Labs, who teamed up with Palomo to create a miniature version of their PicoPaso analog synth with modifications added by Palomo and Bleep. We'll let Alan take over the description of what this thing actually is:

'We teamed up with our brethren homies in Austin, Bleep Labs, to proudly bring you the PAL 198X. It's a triple triangle-wave oscillator noisemaking device with interchangeable controls for maximal sonic contortion. You can attach knobs, light-reactive photocells, and a variety of other devices for semi-modular capabilities. It can interact with a variety of objects around your house whether electronic in nature or not. It can even interact with your pet. It does not make the same sound twice. Basically, I want you to hack this fucking thing.'"

Update: BTW, if this reminds you of anything, it might be the SuONOIO from Alessandro Cortini and Scott Jaeger of The Harvestman. The SuONOIO was released with Alessandro's SONOIO album. Recently a new SuONOIO RED was announced. It makes you wonder how many unique synths came from this direct of an influence from a musician. The Gristleizer from Throbbing Gristle of course comes to mind.

"EL-KA live at the Gasometer [huge gas storage tank, 100 m high] in Oberhausen [Germany] as part of exhibition "Highlights" [actual translation does not fit, due to some word pun used].
With live performed laser show.
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" was the title of the evening in the Gasometer.
The synth duo EL-KA (Hajo Liese and Till Kopper [that's me]) featuring Hermann Lipinski (of Lila) was playing a concert in a real spectacular setting. They prefer the style of the Berlin School "Klaus Schulze, Edgar Froese, Tangerine Dream."

The text on YoTube was written by the video uploader.

I used a 1979 Minimoog, Waldorf XTk (30 voice version), Manikin Electronics Memotron, Korg k25 keyboard to transpose Hajo's Schrittmacher, iPhone to play the Apollo 11 samples, Behringer mixer.

HaJo Liese used:
Manikin Electronics Schrittmacher (step sequencer), Vermona Perfourmer
Vermona DRM1, EMU Vintage module, Kawai K1 rack, Roland as master keyboard, submixer.

Hermann Lipinski used:
Nord Modular, PC-laptop with different soft synths and a sampler app, E-guitar, sub mixer.

We played to the laser show done by friends. We did three shows of about 45 mins that day. We had some sequences prepared. And some ideas in our head. But as usually, it was mainly improvised live music."

Concert Co. "The Affair" vintage analog synth

via this auction
See the here for more.
"Strange and unusual synth made by "The Concert Co." called "The Affair," Model 8000. Not even listed in the Peter Forrest book. And, no information I could find at least on the www. It is a cross between a synth and a flute synthesizer. It has separate RCA outputs on the back for both plus a switch to shift the flute to main or main to flute (as they are slightly unconventional I will include two 1/4" to RCA cables). It is polyphonic for at least up to five notes. Caveats: there are several light scratches on the wood as depicted and other light scratching top bottom front rear sides - the biggest scratch is on the front lip right above middle C. The keys and sliders are sticky. I have included pictures of all of the tabs and sliders. Some of the controls do not appear to work, at least, I was unable to figure out the correct combination of switches to depress combined with sliders to adjust. From left to right: the electric bass preset voice is intermittent above the lowest octave (perhaps it was meant to work this way); the electric piano does not appear to work; the vibraharp works; the harpsichord works. I do not know the "quadratouch" tabs work but they did not appear to have any effect on the sound. I do not know how the "attacks/sustains" tabs work but they did not appear to have any effect on the sound. Both flute voices (open and stopped), and all of the "main voices" (vox brass reed and strings) work. The flute voice is particularly nice and from the design (separate output, etc.) it seems this was one of the main purposes of the synth. All of the "effects" tabs work, the "alteration" and "reiteration" tabs appear to do the same thing, which is to add a slider-adjustable hard vibrato - sounds pretty psychedelic, like something early King Crimson would use circa its "Lizards" album. The "synthesis" tab works and appears to combine an additive voice with one of the other voices when activated. There may be other issues I have been unable to discern, so regretfully sold with these caveats and "as is." If you know how to fix this stuff you could end up with a fine, unusual instrument."

EML Poly-Box vintage analog synth

via this auction
See the here for more.
"From the Peter Forrest guide to all things synth: 'A curious and rare product - only 130 ever were made. Designed to turn monosynths into pseudo-polyphonics. Twenty-six "note memories." Connect a monosynth audio out to the PolyBox input, play a note on the monosynth, hold down a chord on the PolyBox, and the PolyBox will fill out the chord from the original root note. Then you could route the PolyBox back into your synth (if it had an audio input) to use the synth's filter and envelope. The PolyBox's own sound was limited to pulse wave.'"
