Modular Sequenced with Ribbon Controller Solo.mov

YouTube Uploaded by Yuwipiman on Aug 13, 2011

"Using a hybrid 5U modular synthesizer, this recording is a live performance with a Walking Stick 500mm ribbon controller solo. The synth is running multiple sequencers, oscillators, filters, and envelopes, in order to play all of the parts at once. A dotcom Q119 sequencer is used for three lines of sequence, and it is triggered by a STG Trigger Store. Nothing is multi-tracked."

Herb Deutsch's Moog Vocoder (Bode) 16-chan 327A Up for Auction

via this auction

"Just serviced. Rare Moog Vocoder Model 327A/MBVO (16-channel), co-designed by Dr. Harald Bode & Dr. Bob Moog. This unit is a piece of musical history, too, as it was owned by Dr. Herb Deutsch, who co-designed the first Moog synthesizer in the early '60s with Dr. Bob Moog. Seller knows Herb Deutsch personally & acquired the unit from him directly (authenticity can be provided). Includes copies of manuals/documentation & patch images. The Moog Vocoder was used by artists including Wendy Carlos, Moog Cookbook, Devo, Saga, Yellow Magic Orchestra, and filmmaker/composer John Carpenter, among others.

In 1979, Moog Music released its vocoder, although its design and architecture are almost identical to the Bode 7702 model (see image of Bode Vocoder with a "cross-over" patch). It's a 16-band analog vocoder, which separates voice/synthesizer sounds (carrier signal) into frequency-bands ranging from 50 to 5080 cycles-per-second. It does not have any internal oscillators, so it is designed to be used as a signal processor for external carrier & modulator wave sources. The modulator is typically a vocal or drum beat used to modulate the carrier/synth sound being processed. It has microphone & line inputs, as well as 16 synthesizer inputs (1 for each frequency-band), and 16 outputs. This 16-channel cross-matrix patching system provides incredible flexibility, allowing for full external patching between synth & vocoder sections. Other features include a high-frequency bypass, a short 6ms response time for capturing fast percussive sounds, sample-and-hold, and a global bypass switch to turn off the vocoding effect (it has no built-in output mixer, MIDI or CV/Gate).

Sounds great! Recent service included replacement of parts, cleaning & otherwise. Includes power cord, but no patch cords (Seller can refer Buyer to patch cord vendors). The handles/rack-mounts are reversible. 115v/220v switchable. In good physical condition but has some surface scratches, etc. Message Seller with any questions. Moog Vocoders have sold for more than US$5,000 on eBay & private transactions in recent years.

Example: Hear the nearly-identical Bode 7702 vocoder in action [video below]

Own a piece of musical history, and a great addition to any modern studio!"

UK - NOTHING TO LOSE 1979 - HD

"UK from 35mm film recorded 1979. HD 720p version."

"Own a piece of rock 'n’ roll history! Eddie Jobson's customized Hammond C3 organ, played with his late-1970's progressive-rock super-group: UK (band-mates: John Wetton, Allan Holdsworth & Bill Bruford/Terry Bozzio). Featured on UK's albums "UK" (self-titled debut), "Danger Money", and "Night After Night" (live in Japan); notable tracks: "Alaska", "Nothing To Lose", "Danger Money", "Carrying No Cross" & "Night After Night". Seller acquired organ directly from Eddie in 2003. (Authenticity can be provided.) Organ was just serviced & “restored” by a renowned Hammond technician, including new tubes. It works & sounds incredible!

This is one of two Hammond C3's (manufactured in the mid-1950s) customized by Pro-Co of Kalamazoo, MI. One went to Rick Wakeman (Yes, etc.) in ’76, the other to Eddie Jobson in ’77 (Eddie was formerly with Roxy Music, Frank Zappa and Curved Air). The organ has enhanced percussion, direct output, built-in phase-shifter & Leslie speed control, custom presets personally hand-wired & labeled by Eddie, standard & custom Leslie interfaces, plug for remote pedal volume or effects send/return, and remote Leslie speed-control pedal connection. Painted black (excludes bass pedals, bench, music stand and Leslie or tone cabinet). Organ is in good physical condition (high “C” of lower manual has small chip). Includes Eddie Jobson's large Anvil[-style] flight case...

Photo descriptions (selected):
#2 Custom Leslie speed-control & Chorus panels, and Eddie’s custom draw-bar presets.
#3 AC power and standard Leslie connections.
#4 Custom box with 1/4” direct (DI) output, special Leslie audio & speed control XLR outputs, and Leslie remote speed-control pedal plugs.
#5 Rear view of console, including new tubes, Phaser unit (far right), isolation transformer for Leslie interface, remote volume/effects plug, and Eddie’s hand-wired custom preset patches.
#6 is Eddie Jobson playing the C3 with ‘UK’ (other keyboards in photo not included).
#7 Plug (TRS/ring-tip sleeve) for remote volume control or effects send/return.

Gamma Jam

YouTube Uploaded by bigcitymusic on Aug 13, 2011

"Here's a little Kraftwerk-like jam showcasing the WMD Gamma Wave Source wavetable oscillator module.

Our TR-909 Rim Out is clocking the Kilpatrick K4815 Pattern Generator and one side of a Livewire Dual Bissell Generator as a simple Attack/Decay envelope generator.

The pitch CV of the K4815 is running to the other side of the Dual-Bissel, using it to generate portamento. This is much more fun than your typical portamento as you have control of up and down glide rates.

The new Critter and Guitari Pocket Piano GR is being played using its new mono glide mode, which sounds really nice!

For filters on the Gamma we're using a Division 6 Filtaire, modulated by the Livewire Vulcan's sinewave, and a Metasonix R-54. We're also using a Metasonix r-51 as our VCA and the Flight Of Harmony 'Sound of Shadows' karaoke delay."

Bugbrand Weevil Quad Oscillator Noise Synth Box

via this auction
"There were only a few of these made. it is a 4 oscillator synth, the oscillators are in pairs and are ring-modulated together, there are pitch controls for each osc, with one of each pair switchable to a light dependent resistor (a light based theremin). These oscillators can mixed and crossfaded plus have the ability to be momentarily muted or engaged depending on the switch at the top.

It has a 1/4 inch guitar jack out on the back plus two mono-mini jacks that were added to interface with an analogue modular synth.

Patch this up with some delay and reverb and you are in instant space, or run thru some distortion for noise heaven!"

DIY Synth Card Expansion prototype demo for Korg Wavestation synthesizers

DIY Synth Card Expansion prototype demo for Korg Wavestation synthesizers from ilmenator on Vimeo.

"This is a demo of a MIDIbox based DIY project that emulates both PROG- and PCM-cards for the Korg Wavestation line of synthesizers. These units were produced in the early 90s. While they are not exactly collector's items, the RAM-, ROM-, and PCM-cards for these are very sought after today. The DIY project demoed here aims at replacing a RAM/ROM (PROG) and a PCM (waveform) card with a little microcontroller-based circuitry and software that allows to load the corresponding data from SD card. Of course, sound- and waveform-data can also be read from card(s) and saved onto the SD card...

This is a proof-of-concept, hence the whole thing looks quite chaotic :-). I will provide more details on midibox.org."
