"I'm an avid music-gear hobbyist trying my hand at blogging for the first time, and thought I'd attempt to share some of my synth-related projects. I'm currently documenting a restoration of my Oberheim FVS-1 and MS-1A, and have attempted to chronicle some of my past undertakings - a Space Echo motor rebuild/bearing replacement, mono aftertouch customization on my SCI Pro-one, a Minimoog Model D refinish, and others. I have a slew of upcoming projects in the hopper (OB-8, Solina, 5U modular, Rhodes, and GR700 to name a few), and as I get into these I'll be posting tons of photos of the gear inside-and-out, occasional music/sounds, and any relevant technical info in hopes of helping or inspiring others who might be embarking on similar projects. I'd welcome any feedback, comments and contributions, and most of all I hope you enjoy it!"

This set was played on Elektron's Machinedrum, Monomachine and Octatrack loaded with samples from Euro Modular, x0xb0x, Nord Rack1 and Waldorf mQ. some extra Nord and Q parts were sequenced on the Octatrack. x0xb0x played live as well. "

"Using the MonoMachine as a looper with the Buchla. I took one channel and put a very long delay on it with almost unity gain feedback. As you can hear there's a lot of bit crushing going on as I guess they didn't put enough memory into it to do this. Maybe I'll have to get the Octatrack. There's about 40 minutes of audio recorded but for now you'll have to mail me to get it.

"This is a module I built early this year.
It is an Arduino driving a SpeakJet chip to produce allophones and weird synth sounds.

It works on an algorithm coded in Arduino, which is basically a sequence with a variable, the slide potentiometer position amount, which makes the sound change.

The rythm and velocity must be changed into the code.
It has an LCD to display the amount of the slide potentiometer. It says "Voice Pitch" but it could be anything.
The first slide potentiometer is the volume.

Based on the sequence you can produce robot voices.
The easy way should be to add another chip which translates text into sound."

MOONLIGHT by Olga Theremin

"This composition was written by Olga Theremin, the granddaughter of the inventor of the musical instrument known as the "theremin". Olga wrote this originally as a song based on a poem by the 19th century Russian poet Athanasius Fet. For me, Olga's music had a wonderful romantic Russian feel to it so I decided to transcribe it (*with permission*) for the theremin. In this video you see only my pitch hand and the pitch antenna of the Moog Ethervox theremin.

Here is Olga's original version of the piece on which my arrangement is based. The child in the photo is Olga with her grandfather, Leon Theremin. I'd like to thank the Theremin family for their cooperation."

"This melody was originally recorded by Danish duo Laid Back in 1983. Here I play it on the Elka X-1000 organ. But I have made many video were I can be seen playing that instrument.
Therefore I used some other pictures that still illustrates the elevator theme. The Cloos Tower in northern Denmark rises 60 meters above ground. And since it is build on a hill it has an excellent view over the area and the nearby sea."

"The Casio RZ-1 is a member of that rarest of breeds, the sampling drum machine. With a grand total of 12 sounds that seem to have been recorded from a passing bus, and space for four short 12 bit samples the RZ-1 was never going to be right at the top of anyone's kit lust list (and there's a phrase you don't hear everyday), but what really makes the RZ cool is its sheer crapness. The sounds punch and flap like someone battering you around the head with a plank of balsa wood, the timing has mechanical 'Daft Punk'ness' written all over it and the tiny amount of RAM assigned to each sample pad can be spliced together into one vast 1.5 second sample! Combine this with individual outputs and volume sliders for each sound, and the kind of weight you could uses to beat wales to death (and yes, we do mean the country) and you have a machine that passes through coolness and out the other side into the realm of uber-cool."

"'Sonophore' is a direct development of our previous work 'Analogue Tape Glove', an installation examining the notion of reappropriating analogue tape for use as an instrument. This installation saw the development of a glove interface which is now further evolved and used in Sonophore.

The glove interface is connected to a wireless transmitter, which are both worn by the user. This enables the participant to actively explore the space. The sound can then be manipulated via the participant's hand movements over the tape, with the speed and direction influencing the sonic result.

The sound content is site referential to the space the work inhabits, in this case The Old Credit Union bank in West Cork, Ireland. Recordings of speech related to financial infrastructures and numerical systems can be recalled and 'played back' by the participant, allowing for a playful and sonically interesting experience.

The project title Sonophore can be translated from Latin as 'sound-carrier', with the work intending to explore magnetic tape's capacity to hold and transmit sonic information."
