Joerg Schaaf - Flyday '99

YouTube ploaded by SCHAAFJOERG on Aug 20, 2011

"'Flyday' is a 1999 remix of a song, I made in 1989. It was originally planned as a bonus track on my album "sonar eXperience" but I decided against it as it was too different from the rest of the album. The following equipment has been used: MiniMOOG, DX7II, MKS50, D550, ESI 32 Sampler."

Quick Note: If you are familiar with the Post Guidelines this video might be better suited for MATRIXSYNTH-C. The reason I'm posting it here is because Joerg Schaaf is the man behind Radikal Technologies - maker of the Spectralis and Acellerator. This post is about Radikal Technologies.

MIDI modified Speak and Spell - Synthesizer

via this auction

"For sale is one early-model (push-button) Speak & Spell, modified with MIDI in via Highly Liquid's MIDISpeak 2 MIDI retrofit kit. Everything is functioning perfectly as it should. Cosmetic condition is excellent on this unit, no major blemishes to speak of. Battery contacts have traces of corrosion, but it does not impede operation. Battery cover IS present and intact. For info on the retrofit, check out highlyliquid's website. It receives MIDI note and bank change messages to trigger internal sounds. Combined with a decent sequencer, you can replicate speech as well as common circuit bent glitch noises consistently and predictably."

Rhythm Studio R3 Updates In the Work

via Pulse Code Inc.

"We have a lot of cool new features already in the next version of Rhythm Studio! We have used your feedback to make the app even better and added a few of the features on our project roadmap.

New Features in R3:

Optimized Mixer that fits on one screen. The mixer has been optimized to fit on one screen which allows for better control but also gives us more workspace.
4 Audio Devices! That is right, with the smaller mixer the XYP Control Pad mkii has been moved which gives us one more slot to add a device!
User selectable devices. In SETTINGS view you can change out the devices for your song. Do you want 4 x TB3 synthesizers just because? Well you can!
Paste your song to the Intua Audio Paste clipboard to share between other apps! I exported the demo songs and sucessfully imported it into Garage Band of the iPad. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4622
Linear Control. In SETTINGS view you can change from Rotation control to Linear control. Thanks everyone for your feedback!
Email Support. A button within the app will email us directly to give us feedback or ask for help.
Email Song Session File. Share your masterpiece with your friends! (Audio in a future update)
Song File Lock. This will prevent your song from being deleted or modified. Great for songs you want to share or just jam over.

New Devices in R3:

Improved 4 Channel Mixer with controls that fit on one screen. The Effect Units have also been combined to make it more streamlined and simple to use.
Improved XYP Control Pad. The new Control Pad mkii has a wider control surface that makes it easier to use.
DR-9 Drum Machine. Perfect Four on the Floor drum machine to make those banging beats! Also includes flam to hit those 32nd notes.
Gate Audio Insert Effect. The Gate Effect slices up the audio and takes it to another dimension.

The only thing we need to do is build our new virtual analog subtractive synthesizer called: “The Hornet”. The Hornet will be a ribbon style synth. We’ll post the specs as soon as they are set.

More Pics and Videos coming soon!"

Drum Toy for iOS

YouTube Uploaded by RobbyKilgore on Aug 14, 2011

"Drum Toy uses an admittedly weird drum machine architecture and concept. You create basic loops using Drum Toy's Every and Offset knobs, and then feather in the secret ingredient: Probability!

In a way, Drum Toy 'thinks' the way drummers do. Find the pocket, lay down the main groove and sprinkle lightly with a few tasty fills or variations here and there to keep things fresh. Drum Toy is set up to force certain beats while leaving others to just the right amount of chance. This simple mechanism yields a surprising array of personality.

Drum Toy - the world's funkiest practice metronome."

Hammond GSM Guitar Synth

via this auction

via the seller: "Rare Guitar synth! Sold as is! It turns on, lights up, but I cant get sound. It was made with a special pickup that had a 6 pin connector. I don't have the pickup so I cant test it. I was thinking one could mod the input (pictured below) and make it a 1/4" input so that it would just track whatever pitch came into it. I found this link to a 6-pin plug that looks like it would work. Theres a Screenshot of the product below."

If anyone out there knows the correct cable, feel free to comment.

Korg BPX-3 Analog Bass Synthesizer with Pedals

via this auction

via the description: "Korg BPX-3 Bass Pedal Synth. Really rare. There isn't much information on these. I remember reading that Royksopp used one on Melody AM in a magazine years back, but cant find the reference. I know they like rare Korg stuff though, since they appear on the cover of their most recent album with a Korg Synthe-bass.

The presets are much less aggressive than a Moog Taurus, and other pedals that are similar. The sounds are totally fat, smooth, pure analog bass. Very sub-bassy, deep, and full. You can control the tone with the bass and treble eq, as well as attack, sustain, and 'click'.. which is kind of like a decay setting. The controls arent that drastic, providing basic shaping to fit your bass sound in a mix, but the sounds themselves are totally bread and butter and can be used on anything."

Synton rare vintage synth modules -VCO/LFO/VCF/ENV

via this auction
"Here are a collection of rare Synton Modular Synth modules.

There are untested ,and do not come with a power supply and theVCF has had its pots de-soldered to fit in another system. They run on a standard +/-15v supply and have all the original knobs and banana connectors .All of the modules have their power connections on bare wires.Due to their age and because I can't test them , they are sold as seen for spares or repairs. They were bought by me as a project to repair , but I don't have the time and they should go to a better home. There are no returns.

The modules include :

3021 VCO with CEM 3340 VCO chip , it has a variable square wave , sawtooth and sine wave output all available at the same time.sync and PWM and Linear FM inputs. This module was working fully , but is now untested.

3023 VC LFO /VCO - triangle , square outputs , voltage control in of frequency and a variable waveform that goes from sawtooth to triangle to inverted sawtooth

3235 ENV/CPR - this is an envelope follower, trigger delay , and CPR , which is I think a trigger that is generated when a voltage is input above or below a variable set voltage level.

3010 VCEGR - this is a voltage controlled Envelope generator with every stage of the envelope controllable by CV for very expressive and complex envelopes.Standard gate input and VC input for ADSR.

3047 VCF - a multi-mode VCF , which is variable from low pass to hi pass through notch on a variable knob.frequency and resonance controls and a separate band pass output. This is a really nice and unusual filter.Does not use a CEM or SSM chip, so sounds very different. This one has had the pots and banana's de-soldered presumably to fit into another format , but it's easily put back together- nothing is missing.

The modules come with a eurorack format case that is solid and heavy , so if you are just interested in the modules , you don't have to have the case. The modules are not fixed in , but were put in this case for safe keeping.

Synton modules are extremely rare and were very high quality , these have not been tested recently , though they were working with a +/- 15v power supply in the past. These are sold as seen ."

"I'm finally letting my piece of Dance Music History go! If you've found this item you know exactly what this is, it's a hell of a lot more than the sum of it's parts. This thing is an animal, which I've used on many many tracks..."

Concertmate-200 Keyboard Synthesizer - Casio VL-1

via this auction

"This nice Realistic C-200 Keyboard is actually a Casio VL-Tone 1 clone specifically built for Radio Shack stores!

The Concertmate-200 is a monophonic VL-Tone 1 (VL-1) synthesizer with built-in calculator. The "M+" calculator memory also stores the timbre, ADSR, vibrato and tremolo setting for the synthesizer, and the short 29 buttons mini- keyboard could be transposed by a switch to low, mid and high pitch range. (In Germany the VL-1 became very famous by the pop group Trio's song "Da Da Da", which features the "rock" rhythm and piano sound of this tiny white keyboard.) The VL-1 was the first genuine "Volks- Synthesizer" and came out even earlier than the well known Yamaha DX-7. It was first released as the Casio VL-Tone 1, and later as the Realistic Concertmate-200.

Overview

29 Button Micro-Keys
Monophonic Main Voice
5 Preset Sounds : piano, fantasy, violin, flute, guitar (selected by slide switch with a small delay)
10 Analog Rhythms : march, waltz, 4-beat, swing, rock-1, rock-2, bossa-nova, samba, rhumba, beguine
24 Preset Patterns (8 Drum Rhythms / 8 Accompaniments / 8 Funny Arrangements)
Volume Slider Control
Tempo Slider Control
3 Octave Transpose Switch
Full-Function Built-in Calculator
ADSR synthesizer (uses calculator memory as sound parameter register)
LCD (displays calculator stuff and e.g. note values)
Demo Button (plays German folk song)
Tuning Trimmer (located case bottom)
Simple Sequencer (100 Notes, Editor Insert & Delete with Battery Backed-Up)
2 "One Key Play" Buttons (play and change note duration)
Built-in Amp-Speaker System
Jacks for AC Adapter & Line/Headphone Out
Operates on Batteries or Optional (not included) AC Adapter

Special Note

The Realistic C-200 Portable Electronic Keyboard is part of the Casio VL-Tone 1 synthesis series.

The C-200 is a monophonic sound generator based on multi-pulse square-wave tones with different digital envelopes. The digital envelopes with audible zipper noise are linear, and the analog rhythms consist of 3 (high, low, snare) sounds made from square-wave and shift register noise.

The C-200 Synthesizer has a fun variety of fantastic voice tones to modify and drum rhythms to play to."

Search Update

Note this site has two Search interfaces. Blogger Search and Google Search. The main difference is Blogger search shows results as posts and Google Search shows results in the standard list and short description format. I keep both for two reasons. Blogger is good when I want the link to bring up all posts for a given term like all YouTube videos featured on the site from a particular YouTube account. Google Search is better at digging deep and it's faster. Due to the high number of posts on the site, Blogger does a pretty poor job with older posts.

That said, I moved the Google Search box to the top right to make it more prominent. Remember to use both depending on how you want results to come back. Google pretty much finds everything, Blogger is good for recent posts and searching YouTube aliases.
