E-mu Modular Mystery Modules

via Zappa's Gear who's looking for more info on the highlighted modules. Anyone know what they are?

This one in via Von Holt.

In order:
"The Output Mixer - was this an E-mu design?"
"Mystery module 1 - note the misaligned switches and sockets?"
"Mystery module 2 - some sort of output unit obviously - who made it?"

Below:
"Mystery module 3 - looks like an E-mu module - what was it called?"

Update via Mark II Studio's in the comments: "I'm guessing here, but "Module 1" could have been an interface for a guitar... notice the letter markings, while not in correct order, they do represent the standard open string chord tuning for a guitar... "E, A, D, G, B, E" if they had a pickup that isolated each string that would match the jacks and panel setup... maybe early try at an Arp Avatar type situation?

But based on the lettering that's my best guess...

"Module 2" reminds me of a "matrix type mixer, and the bottom row to the right has a set of what appears to be "trim pots" possibly associated with the above left switches to match level control... again, just guessing, or could be also for C/V voltages more specific for triggers...

"Module 3" appears to be a module to interface directly with balanced recording consoles... I'd bet behind the panel between the swicthes and the XLR jacks are a bunch of line transformers screwed to the backside of the panel... "

"Electro Faustus EF-101. Here is some info from the EF site: "The Electro-Faustus EF101 Dual Oscillator is a digital circuit in which one oscillator feeds into another in series. Go from beeps and boops to robotic sounding squeals and wails. Great for live performances or sampling." Think of it as a theremin that uses nobs instead of proximity. It is alot of fun, well-built and a weird, affordable way to add all kinds of unique sounds to your projects. Below is a link to a Youtube video and an amazon page. I have used it for about two hours and it is in perfect shape."

Acidlab Bassline synth sequencer

Folktek "Bug" synthesizer - Magnetic patchable glitch Bent Circuit

via this auction
"The Bug By Ben Houston .

This custom piece is part of a folktek series entitled "philanthropoid"". Known simply as the Bug series. Also in the series on the site and around the world is the Mantis, dronescape sequencer, the book of sound, the moth, the growling insect, the bug, the octa-hedra, walking stick, pendulum translator and others. The sound is phenomenol and continues to amaze us. It is a sonic symphony of nasty and grimy sweetness, endless layers of sound possibilities emenating from High quality OSC originally based on high tech speech synthesis. Seemingly random bits can be rediscovered time and time again and then there are those moments that you will most likely never rediscover. Endlessly captivating, this piece WILL provide sounds that you will not find in other synthesizers and will astonish you every time you turn it on.

This particular piece features four patchable knobs, and a twelve point magnetic patchbay. This allows you to determine function and provides tons of flexibility. In addition, two more knobs (global knob control and power kill) , glowing lamp power indicator , 2 folktek button/switches for activate and freeze mode sections, reset, 1/4" output, basic manual of function and layout. You'll be able to cipher through waveforms and textures with extreme sensitivity in thousands of ways. Waveforms (individual, or multiple layers) can be captured and maintained, often intermodulating in beautiful and/or disturbing ways. Super sensitive knobs let you filter through tons of sounds and glitchscapes. Housed in antique oak finger jointed hardwood box. Albums are waiting to be created here as the sound is quite different from anything else you'll find..

"This was developed around a quick chord riff on the Juno 60. The bassline is Juno 60, the bright vibes are (of course) DX7, the drums are Boss DR-670, and a Mopho arpeggiates through the instrumental. You can hear the SK20 phased strings from the instrumental through the coda. I used the phaser on a Pod XT. The bright arpeggiated synth in the bridge is also the Juno. Oberheim OB-1 vintage analog mono synth

"A very rare chance to get hold of a vintage classic, the Oberheim OB-1 which has been totally striped and rebuilt by James at Synth Repair Services. This is as close as you can get to a brand new OB-1. All of the logic has been replaced (bit of a weak point on the OB-1), all sockets replaced, PSU upgraded, all capacitors replaced etc. etc. The OB-1 is in very good physical condition apart from a bit of wear and tear on one of the end cheeks which is hopefully visible on the photos."

MFB Nanozwerg Monophonic Analogue Synthesizer

via this auction
"Size doesn't always matter, despite its compact dimensions, the Nanozwerg is a full-featured monophonic analogue synthesizer. With VCO, an additional sub-oscillator and its 12 dB-slope-multimodefilter, the Nanozwerg offers multiple bass- and lead-sounds. In addition, the Nanozwerg offers a noise-generator and also works as an effects-processor using its external audio-input.

The analogue VCO generates 4 waveform shapes: triangle, saw tooth, rectangle and needle-impulse. The base pitch can be switched over a 4-octave-range, while fine-tune can be specified within a range of one octave. The sub-oscillator with 2 mixable octave settings completes the Nanozwerg's sound foundation. The noise generator can alternatively replace the sub-oscillator to create non-harmonic sounds. Finally, a glide-control can be used to tie notes with portamento.

The state-variable multimode-filter runs with 12 dB slope per octave and offers Lo-, Hi- and Bandpass-modes as well as notch-filtering and resonance up to self-oscillation. Cutoff can be modulated manually, by LFO and by the ADSR-envelope simultaneously. In addition, pitch-dependent cutoff-frequency can be achieved using the key follow function. Finally, LFO modulation can be replaced by the VCO output signal.

The LFO offers 4 waveform shapes including sample & hold as well as a one-shot-function, where the selected waveform is played only once after a gate-trigger, thus imitating a simple envelope. Besides the cutoff-frequency, the LFO can also modulate the pitch or the VCO rectangle's pulse width.

The ADSR-envelope allows modulation of the filter's cutoff-frequency and the VCA-output, with positive or negative excursion. Selectively, the VCA can also be opened by a gate-trigger to free the envelope for exclusive filter use.

For integration into a modular system or use with an analogue sequencer, NANOZWERG offers several control inputs. There is CV/Gate for pitch control and note length as well as CV-inputs for cutoff-control, the VCA and LFO speed. The LFO also offers CV-output.

The audio-input allows signals to be fed into the VCF and VCA. NANOZWERG can be controlled by MIDI from any compatible keyboard or DAW. Note commands are received as well as pitch-wheel (+/- 2 semitones) and modulation-wheel data, the latter controlling the filter's cutoff frequency. "

MFB Microzwerg Semi Modular

via this auction
"The Microzwerg not only bridges the gap between Nanozwerg and Kraftzwerg. Due to its dual multimode-filter, it also offers an individual signal-path with specific sound potential. The Microzwerg's numerous patch connections are simply inviting to be modulated by our flexible step-sequencer Urzwerg or to interact with the multifunctional Megazwerg.

Individually operated and due to its dual oscillators and dual multimode-filter, the Microzwerg offers a lot more than typical analogue basses and lead sounds. Prepare yourself for some special timbres. The signal path and modulations are quickly reconfigured using a few patch chords with the result of an enormous boost in sonic variety. Combined with other members of MFB's Zwerg synthesizer family or even a modular system, the Microzwerg's possibilities grow further.

Both oscillators offer triangle, saw tooth and rectangle waveform shapes. Where oscillator 1 also offers a needle impulse, VCO 2 has a built-in noise generator. VCO 2 can be detuned by plus minus one octave in reference to VCO 1. Both oscillators can also be synced, using a patch connection. In addition, the separate output of VCO 2 can be used to modulate the filter. Finally, ring modulation is possible in combination with Megazwerg, where the ring modulated output can be fed back into Microzwerg.

The 2 state-variable multimode-filters run with 12 dB slope per octave and offer lo-, hi- and bandpass-modes as well as notch-filtering. The filters are prewired in series to increase the slope when used in same operation mode. Here, the slope is variable because both cutoff-controls can be shifted against each other using the slope control. Combining a lo- and hipass-filter result in a variable band pass with adjustable bandwidth and individually controllable resonances. When preferred, a parallel routing is possible using a patch connection, too. In this case, the Microzwerg allows two separate shifted bandpass-filters, notch-filtering with variable bandwidth or a combination of bandpass-filter with followed lo- or hipass-filter. Resonance can reach up to self-oscillation for both filters. The cutoff-frequencies are manually controlled simultaneously or by envelopes. They can be shifted against each other using the space-control. Modulations by LFO or CV can address either filter 1 or both filters.

A simple patch from Key CV to the contour- or mod-input can achieve pitch-dependent cutoff-frequency control. Because both filters offer independent in- and outputs, the Microzwerg is also destined to be used as an effective dual-filter for external sound sources.

The ADSR envelope is internally prewired to control the filters' cutoff-frequency. The Megazwerg or any modular system can jump in via patch chords whenever a second envelope is needed.

The 2 LFO offers four waveform shapes each and a one-shot-function, where the selected waveform is played only once after a gate-trigger, thus imitating a simple envelope that might be used for pitch or VCA control. LFO 2 includes a sample & hold.

Internal modulation wirings offer LFO control over the filters' cutoff as well as the oscillators' pitch or VCO 2's pulse width. LFO 2's speed can be modulated by an external control voltage, allowing increasing or decreasing the speed by a factor of 30. Using this feature, the Microzwerg is capable of extreme slow and fast modulations.

The control signals of the envelope and both LFOs are available as CV-outputs and can therefore be used to control other functions of the Microzwerg as well as in other analogue synthesizers and modular systems.

The signal-path VCO 1/2-VCF 1/2-VCA as well as the common main modulations is internally prewired, so that the Microzwerg can be played immediately. All further routings are created using the patch jacks. These can be used or controlled by the Microzwerg itself or any compatible external device.

The Microzwerg can be controlled by MIDI from any compatible keyboard or DAW. Note commands are received as well as pitch-wheel (+/- 2 semitones) and modulation-wheel data, the latter controlling the filter's cutoff frequency. "
