Maplin ETI4600 synth

via this auction

"Firstly, this is NOT a synthesiser. It's a machine for travelling through time and space - sideways. Transport yourself to the far flung corners of the universe and beyond. For some of you, it may be a one way ticket...

As is often the case with these rare beasts, a lot of work initially needed doing. Jim at 'Singing Cat Services' has been a godsend, performing shamanic rewiring rituals, voodoo based calibration and much cat orientated strangeness.

Everything works apart from the headphone circuit - currently disconnected. All the other knobs/switches function. Each Osc has had a sync mod fitted, but Osc 4 is best used as an LFO (tuning issues). The front panel has a very slight (but jaunty) curve too it, and the woodwork reeks of 1976 (laminate - very slight peeling to one corner).

So, if you're looking to recreate the BBC radiophonic workshop, or have just got too old to drop acid, this is the tool for you!

In short, a delicious slice of history."

The Complete Synthesizer Handbook

via this auction

"This book is really cool... let me give you the highlights (synthpop fans'll love it!)

Synthesis & control: talks about old cv/gate and midi
Talks about synthesis - subtractive mainly
Lots of cool b&w pics including 909, Prophet T8, Linn drum
Heaven 17's Temptation track is discussed in detail from demoing, equipment, through to tracking and mix-down - photos of studio track sheets and setup diagram
Text about the legendary Conny Plank and Martin Rushent - In my eyes two complete legends!

all in all a great book for synth fans and synth music alike."

"Of note, if that sort of thing interests you, were the new 808 foot module from TipTop, and Harvestman's Polivoks oscillator, both of which I'll be getting. I'm not familiar enough with that scene to know what was earth-shattering or whatever. That Buchla was really pretty. I'll say that much."

Studio Electronics Code 8 multi mode test - CS80 filters - Chill out

YouTube Uploaded by CoolColJ on Sep 11, 2011

'A little Studio Electronics Code 8 multimode test using 3 sounds on different midi channels, all with CS80 filters.

Trying out the freeware SEQ24 pattern sequencer, and I then played over the top of it

Straight into my Audio interface, and I added some reverb.
Nothing else done, just raw unprocessed synth sound.

Tried to be creative with the video :P
Seems darker than original, after the Youtube processing :(

Stussy - Make Beats Contest Judged by Teenage Engineering

Stussy - Make Beats Contest from Stussy on Vimeo.

"The Stussy Make Beats Contest is about the fun of modern music making. Whether you’re a beat-maker, rapper, DJ or listener, this contest combines the creative aspect of making music with the fan’s point of view all tied together with some fresh tees and hats. The contest will be judged by Stussy, Low End Theory and Swedish synthesizer company, Teenage Engineering, who produced a new drum machine/synthesizer called the OP-1. In the music world today, it’s rare for a company to develop a piece of hardware, because most people use their computer to make beats. The OP-1 brings it back to the days of drum machines like the 808, when making beats meant banging them out on a machine. The Make Beats contest will start on 8/31/11 and invites the public to upload their own original tracks (made on any machine/computer) via the Stussy Make Beats Drop Box on Soundcloud. Send us your beats!!!

Make Beats will run until 9/14/11 and is open to everyone around the globe. All beats must be submitted by 9/14/11 to be considered for the contest. The winner will be chosen by a committee from Stussy, Low End Theory and Teenage Engineering and announced on 9/20/11. Contest rules include one entry per artist, who can use anything to make an ORIGINAL instrumental beat, at least 2 minutes in length. The winner will receive the release of their EP, paid travel to Los Angeles to perform at the Low End Theory event, a Teenage Engineering OP-1 portable synthesizer, a 1 year SoundCloud Pro account and a box of fresh Stussy gear.

Please visit Stussy.com/features/make-beats for more details.

Multivox MX-150 Vintage Bass Synth

via this auction

"Full octave (dual octave high/low sw) bass synthesizer. Excellent working condition. Professional synth. Dates back to late 70's or maybe very early 80's. Can't remember when I bought it new then. One owner...me. All great standard bass sounds from this instrument. Very fun adjustable "Effect" sound also. To me it sounds like a cross between a Wah and an amplified Jews Harp. Really cool. Hard to describe with words. Built like a tank. See pics..."

ROLAND WS-1 WRITE SWITCH FOR THE CR 78

via this auction

"Roland WS-1 Write Switch, an ultra-rare accessory for the CR-78 vintage analog drum machine, which allows you to step-write your own patterns.

As you can see from the photos, it is in very good cosmetic condition: clean appearance, and all buttons, knob, cables and switch are present and in tact. This includes the original owners manual."

Check out them buttons in the second pic. Pic of the inside below.

Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm Drum Machine

via this auction
"* Sync the CR-78 to any other Din Sync device
* Select the playback sync rate to: (1) normal speed, (2) double speed, (3) half speed
* Use external positive polarity Gate or Trigger signals to program patterns into the CR-78 user memory.
* Manually tap a beat into the CR-78 user memory using the momentary switch on the front panel.
* Front panel blue LED lights to show when external gate or trigger signals are being received.

The unit has been recently serviced, the battery has been professionally replaced so no risk of leakage and the NMOS RAM chips have been replaced. The Roland service manual is included.
Programming from one of these devices is simple. By syncing the playback of the CR-78 to your Din Sync master, you can then send the programmable trigger or gate signals out of the master into the programmer interface and on to the CR-78 for storing your own custom rhythms in the CR-78. When using a Din Sync master device which also has MIDI such as the Revolution, you can then sync your CR-78 to any other MIDI sequencers as well "

SPECTRUM twin VCO vintage mono SYNTH

via this auction
"Two VCO analogue mono synth from the 80’s – these were supplied in kit form from the Electronics and Music Maker magazine at the time. It all works fine, but could probably do with a clean and set up. I had the circuit diagrams around 10 years ago when I first got it but seem to have misplaced them (will keep looking).

There’s a .pdf available here though.

Great fat analogue sounds and brilliant filter, similar to a Minimoog.

Whoever built the case hasn’t done a great job, but it’s adequate and could be improved upon with some edgeing strip here and there – see photos (no it isn’t a Korg, some one has just put a sticker on the back)."

Split Wave Modulator V1-20 alpha.3gp

YouTube Uploaded by dolphinicus on Sep 11, 2011

"The Split Wave Modulator V1.20 alpha is actually Version 4 of my 1995/1996 invention the Voltage Controlled Split Wave module where I had come up with the invention / innovation of taking an audio waveform and splitting it into it's positive and negative voltage halves. With that invention I had also mistakenly created a different type of WAVE FOLDING that the well known Electronotes Newsletter creator and author had also mistakenly done in December 1976.
Together these functions allow me to change the amplitudes of each of the halves with external control voltage modulation. Both of the halves after being processed or not are then summed along with a copy of the originally input waveform to give an extremely wide variation in harmonics that are produced.
As Bernie had said, the wave folding portion of this unit (as well as my Split Wave invention) can be considered an opposite type function of the regular Voltage Controlled Filter which REMOVES harmonics from an input waveform. The Split Wave Modulator ADDS harmonics to a simple input waveform."
