Adam Hulbert/Bondi Beach on Innerclock System Sync-Gen II

via Innerclock where you'll find one more pic.

"The new version of Sync-Gen II works a treat. Rock solid & no latency once set in the options menu. Shuffle is great too. Work has prevented me from going too deep for now but this is clearly a game changer. With the Oberkorn Sequencer via AKAI MPC it has been delivering incredible results with ProTools. Use is intuitive and seamless now. Thanks again, this is awesome! Adam - Sent from my Atari 2600"

No MIDI Support for Windows 8 Tablets?

Update 6/19/12: The Microsoft Surface Pro should have MIDI as it will run Windows 8 Pro.

This one in via Sanjay. You can see the discussion on MSDN here. via anon30524 in that thread:

"While I'm sure you understand the repercussions of this, I will point it out to others viewing this who may not.

No Midi Support in Metro == No Midi support on any Windows 8 ARM devices

MIDI will still work in Windows 8 Desktop (x86/x64) in non-metro apps using the following to legacy Win32 APIs:

MME API (Written for Windows 3.0 in 1991)

DirectMusic API (Written for Win 95 in 1996)

I hope that you haven't frozen the API for Windows 8 and there is still a chance for MIDI Support. A new MIDI API would be great. Why you didn't write one when you created WASAPI in Vista is beyond me. I can acknowledge that this is probably a lot of work and it is late in the Windows 8 development cycle, however, this is not your only choice. You are already making some Win32/COM APIs available in Metro. Why not add the MME MIDI APIs to this list?

One only has to look at the iPhone/iPad to look at all the wonderful MIDI music apps possible. Windows 8 ARM device users should be able to enjoy the same type of apps.

I encourage anyone interested in Audio or MIDI to post a reply to this thread and show Microsoft that you want MIDI Device Support in Metro."

And via Apple Insider:

"The president of Microsoft's Windows unit, Stephen Sinofsky, has again pointedly clarified that new ARM tablets running Windows 8 next year won't actually run existing Windows apps for PCs."

If any Microsofties out there have more info on this, feel free to send it in. No MIDI pretty much means any Windows 8 Tablet is dead in the water for many of us, leaving the iOS and Android based tablets it for now. This would be a really poor choice for Microsoft. It will limit the market and limit free publicity with musicians that would otherwise use the tablet.

Yamaha Voice Editor Essential for iPad

Hats off to Yamaha on this. I hope other manufacturers offer this. It can take months to create a decent editor for more complex synths on your own. Editors like this really open up synths in a way you simply cannot otherwise.

"Voice Editor Essential is a simple Core MIDI iPad editor application to edit parameters in Yamaha synthesizers.
The editor focuses on detailed editing of insert effects, system effects, arpeggiator and EQ that are frequently modified and can take advantage of the iPad's large graphic display. In addition to that, you can control parameters like EG or cutoff in real-time by using fader control or XY Pad. Some essential global parameters including tap tempo and volume control are also included."

Spectrasonics Announce Winners in "OMG-1 Contest"

"BURBANK, CALIF -- SEPTEMBER 15, 2011 -- Spectrasonics today announced the winners of their worldwide "OMG-1 Contest." Over 400 entries for the contest were submitted from 68 different countries, with a very wide diversity of musical styles. The goal for each contestant was to use the sounds from the Bob Moog Tribute Library in a creative and inspiring way. The company reports that the Contest and the Library have been able to raise record-breaking funds for the Bob Moog Foundation to support their innovative projects.

Eric Persing, Spectrasonics Creative Director and Founder, said, "With the hundreds of creative entries from around the world, the OMG-1 Contest was an incredible success! The overall quality of all the entries was so much higher than we expected, it was extremely difficult to choose the winners."

The Grand Prize of Persing's custom-built OMG-1 synthesizer has been awarded to Torley Wong of Washington State [matrix edit: Torley's been featured here on MATRIXSYNTH a number of times] , who submitted an entire album's worth of music--15 pieces, over one-hour in total--exclusively using the "Bob Moog Tribute Library" in Spectrasonics' Omnisphere software synthesizer for the tonal elements of his album. The one-of-a-kind OMG-1 synthesizer will be presented as the Grand Prize to Mr. Wong in a special event at the 'Moogfest' in Asheville, North Carolina in October 2011.

In fact, so many great pieces of music were submitted in the contest that three other major winners were announced as well, winning prizes generously donated by hardware synthesizer manufacturer Moog Music:

* "Outstanding Achievement Award" David Soltany (Strasbourg, France)

* "Next Generation Award" Eric Oberthaler (Berkeley, California)

* "Most Original Composition" Waen Shepherd (London, UK)

Fifteen additional contestants were recognized with "Creative Excellence Awards" and have their music featured on the Spectrasonics website.

View the complete contest-winners list and listen to their music: [LINK]

The OMG-1 Synthesizer
The grand prize in the contest, the OMG-1 hardware synthesizer, was designed by Persing as a live performance instrument and is not a commercial product. It integrates the worlds of analog synthesis with a Moog Little Phatty®, and software synthesis with Omnisphere software synthesizer and the Omni TR™ iPad app--all in a hand-crafted curly maple cabinet containing Apple iPads and a MacMini.

The Bob Moog Tribute Library - Still Available for all Omnisphere Users!

Produced by Eric Persing, the Bob Moog Tribute library features over 700 stunning new sounds for Spectrasonics' Omnisphere Power Synth. The Soundsources in the library were developed using highly creative processing techniques--often with exotic gear. The sounds in the library were created by more than 40 of the world's top synth artists, remixers and sound designers, including Hans Zimmer, Vince Clarke, Jean Michel Jarre, The Crystal Method, Bernie Worrell, Larry Fast, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Jan Hammer, Richard Devine, Danny Elfman and many more. Although the OMG-1 Contest has ended, Spectrasonics' Bob Moog Tribute Library will continue to be sold as a $100 downloadable library for Omnisphere, and 100% of the proceeds will continue to be donated to the Bob Moog Foundation.

SoundPrism 2.3 update – real multitasking through interconnected apps enabled by virtual Core MIDI

SoundPrism 2.3 Trailer

YouTube Uploaded by Audanika on Sep 8, 2011

"Audanika did it again - a little revolution for iOS mobile musicians. With SoundPrism 2.3 you can use your iOS device as a complete music studio. Using virtual Core MIDI it is now possible to interconnect apps and use them parallel. What about SoundPrism, NLog Synth and MoDrum?"

"Erfurt, Germany, September 15th 2011

Audanika, developer of the popular iPhone/iPad instrument and MIDI controller SoundPrism is pleased to announce the release of SoundPrism Pro 2.3. SoundPrism Pro 2.3 goes beyond the limits of iOS music making. It’s the begin of a new era of mobile music creation!

SoundPrism Pro 2.3 is now able to interconnect with other music apps via virtual Core MIDI. MIDI notes and controller data generated by SoundPrism Pro can now be sent to synthesizer apps running in the background. With this step iOS devices become modular creative studios. No additional hard and software is needed anymore.

One special synthesizer app that can be controlled via SoundPrism Pro is TempoRubato‘s NLog. NLog is an extensive synthesizer that provides multiple high quality synthesis modules, SoundCloud upload, Audio and MIDI Export as well advanced real time control. Thus NLog and SoundPrism Pro complete each other perfectly: NLog provides a high quality analog audio synthesis to SoundPrism Pro and vice versa SoundPrism Pro provides a highly intuitive musical user interface to NLog. A demonstration video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Sb3KUBrq8.

For existing users SoundPrism 2.3 comes as a free update for both standard and Pro versions from the iOS App store. Please note that the virtual Core MIDI features stated above are only available in SoundPrism Pro available for $15.99/£9.49/12,99 EUR.

SoundPrism has been downloaded over 250,000 times and both versions have scored full marks in app store reviews across the world, further proof that the app continues to inspire musicians and producers everywhere to interact with sound in an innovative new way.

Open Music App Collaboration

Audanika and TempoRubato are the founders of the open music collaboration, a developer community advancing the virtual Core MIDI Standard. We are pioneers in the field of mobile music creation. A lot of iOS developers already follow us. Our aim is to enable a whole bunch of music apps to interact with each other. More information concerning this development group are openly accessible at http://groups.google.com/group/open-music-app-collaboration.
