Rachmaninoff: Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14 (synthesized)

YouTube Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943): Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 4

"This very famous composition, composed in 1912 by Sergei Rachmaninoff, is scored for solo voice with piano accompaniment. It has no lyrics, but is sung on a single vowel sound (of the vocalist's choosing). It was dedicated to soprano Antonina Nezhdanova. The piece is somewhat tonally ambiguous, though bears resemblance to the E minor tonality. It is often transposed so as to suit the range of a variety of vocalists.

This synthesized rendition was generated by our Matlab synthesizer, utilizing two unique "instruments" we have programmed. The piano accompaniment timbre contains strong odd harmonics, while the melody stands out through its use of vibrato. The scrolling visualization on screen is a spectrogram, a graphic plot of the spectral content of an audio signal. The vertical axis represents frequency, and the horizontal axis time. Higher-pitched notes appear higher up on the screen, and the harmonics for each individual note are visible above the fundamental at regularly spaced intervals"

Accelerator Demos by Joerg Schaaf

"All files are produced with the Accelerator Synthesizer."

Descriptions:
Accelerator Demo Mix [this one previously posted here - the others are new]
"Some sounds of my latest product Accelerator!"

Accelerator Demo: Two performances
"The first performance runs the programmable polyphonic Arpeggiator and the second a sweet pad sound."

Accelerator Sound Demo: Bizarre Ambient
"Pure Accelerator sound without external FXs. I improvised over some of the FX sound chain of the factory presets I created for that synth. I recorded that in one go - the voice remain feature allows for selecting and adding new sounds while holding down some notes of the former performance. Not even the FXs get interrupted. I recorded the demo with the basic 8 voice version."

Accelerator Demo: Two string filter sounds + a phasing pad
"Three sounds: A string filter plucked string emulation, a string filter flute emulation and a phasing pad for the background. All recorded without external FXs."

Darkside
"Just listen to the bizarre Delay Feedback FXs in the second third of the demo. After doing some experiments with this astonishing delay we decided to add the string filter to the sound engine. The string filter is mainly a delay - but with two damping filters. But as a second result, the delay can be tuned in halftones."

Serge Modular Analog Synthesizer & Processor w Dual Transient Generator

via this auction - SN 0294

"Up for auction is a beautiful condition Serge Modular Fully Loaded Panel! As you can tell from the photographs, the synth is in immaculate shape and feels exactly like it did straight from Rex Probe at Sound Transform Systems! This Serge is a 1996 Serge and features the build quality and routing of the older more expensive (and expansive) Serge designs. For anyone looking to expand on their Serge rig or their current modular system, this is a great panel to buy. Because this panel features balanced line level inputs and outputs it can also be used as a standalone studio/live processors.

Quadrature Oscillator:
Used mainly for quadraphonic panning; simultaneous sine-cosine output waveforms. Voltage-controlled LFO.Neat 'hold' input freezes the state of the waveform when 'hold' goes high.

Dual Processor:
Deceptively simple. It's two 3-input DC mixers, each input having an inverting attenuator, and with a master DC offset knob, -5 to +5 volts. Can also be used as a spare audio mixer. You can use this module as a voltage multiplier. Put your incoming voltage at one of the inputs, then multiple off that input to the next processor input to double it. Keep in mind that you can use this module with no input voltages. The offset knob is handy for driving one or more modules together as a group, or for using negative bias to VC an oscillator into extra-low territory. Since several of the Serge modules have no VC processing input, it's handy to have one of these to trim the output of a DSG, Random Source, or TKB Pressure into a more subtle range.

Dual Transient Generator:
Insanely versatile module; there's very little it can't do. Two independent slew generators (positive and negative) are combined to make a Universal Slope Generator. This Dual module give you two of them. Trigger it with a pulse and you get a single AR type envelope waveform. When the cycle starts a gate trigger output goes low. When the cycle is finished, it goes high. So to make it cycle repetitively, connect the GATE to TRIGGER. Rise and Fall times are settable by knob. Here's a short list of things you can do with this module: AR transient generator, VC slew limiter, VC LFO (variable slope triangle and rectangular waveforms), VC audio oscillator, VC trigger delay, VC clock, VCLPF, VC pulse divider, Envelope Follower. Talk about wide range - cycle times go from hours to microseconds, without range switching. You can almost make an entire synthesizer with nothing but this module, used in its various ways.

The Slope Generator's output is linear, but by patching the output back into the attenuated VC input you can create exponential waveforms (with the attenuator knob set after 12 o'clock) or log waveforms (with the knob set before 12 noon). How can this module act as a filter? It slew-limits the high frequency components of the incoming signal, at a rate set by rise and fall knobs, and VC. If the rise and fall knobs are set fully clockwise (fastest rate), filtering will be audibly minimal, seeing as the Slope Generator is responding rapidly to input. Turning rise and fall knobs counterclockwise increases the response time, and high frequency content at the output will decrease. Turn them fully counterclockwise and audio output will be minimal. So feed this thing a low harmonic content waveform like a sine or triangle, and you've got a rough equivalent VCA!

This sort of filtering action is more subtle than the regular VCFs, though a bit more obvious than a 'tone control.' Good for mellowing out raspy and buzzy tones. Cross-connecting two Slope Generators together generates interesting 'chaotic' waveforms. Connect the output of one to the attenuated VC input of the other, then take the output of the second and patch it to the input of the first. Play with the attenuator settings."

SN 481189

"The multi waveform oscillators feature cross modulation which can also be controlled from env 1. The VCOs can be modulated by LFO 1 and env 1. The pulse width modulation can be controlled by env 1, LFO 1 or the keyboard. The oscillators can be synced in either direction: 1 to 2 or 2 to 1.

The filter is low and high pass with a choice of either env 1 or env 2 (both invertable). Separate controls for the HPF, LFO 1 and key follow.

The MKS-80 responds to velocity which can modulate both of the envelopes times and levels.

The unit can retain sixty-four patches in memory, which can be layered or split with tuning offsets and key ranges and stored in one of the sixty-four patch locations.

An additional 128 patches and tones can be stored on the M64C RAM cartridge.

The MKS-80 has four voice modes: Poly 1, Poly 2, Unison 1, and Unison 2. Poly 2 operates in unison until more than two keys are pressed, and which time it reverts to normal poly mode. This is great for leads, retaining the mono unison sound but permitting overlapping notes and a chord here and there.

In split mode you can use as 2 separate synths via the 2 XLR outputs.

You also get great midi spec and sysex implementation"

Vintage MAM VF-11 11 band Vocoder

via this auction

"The VF-11 is an 11-band analog vocoder from German company MAM (Music And More). A vocoder lets you create robotic vocal effects. You basically feed two sounds into it, the sound you want to process (Synthesis Input) such as a synth lead or synth pad, and the sound that will do the vocoding (Analysis Input) such as your voice or a drum loop.

The Analysis input has mono Mic and Line inputs. The signal you plug in here will be separated into 11-bands which cover a frequency range of 50Hz to 12kHz. The unique frequency spectrum of the analysis input sound will have different amplitudes at each of the 11 analysis bands. So a low frequency specific sound will generate lots of voltages in the low frequency bands, but very little to no voltages among the higher frequency analysis bands. The amount of voltages generated by these bands depends entirely on the harmonic content of the Analysis sound input.

Voltages generated by these analysis bands go on to control up to 11 Envelope Detectors on the Synthesis channel. The Synthesis channel is also split into 11-bands and each band passes through a VCA envelope controlled by these Envelope Detectors. The end result is that the Synthesis input's envelope is generated by the harmonic content of the Analysis input sound.

The VF-11 has its very own, albeit very simple, analog VCO to use on the Synthesis channel in lieu of external audio. This oscillator offers only a sawtooth waveform with a simple pitch adjustment knob. The VF-11 has only a mono output which can output the processed or unprocessed signals. The VF-11 can also function as a filterbank! Plug a sound to the Synthesis channel, and nothing into the Analysis channel. Then you can adjust the gain of each of the 11 bands. It isn't resonant, but it works. The VF-11 is analog and affordable. There's no MIDI or memory and you'd need two of these to process stereo audio."

Simmons Clap Trap - Handclap synth - Rare Digital Analog Hybrid

via this auction

"The controls are - Clap, pitch and length (knob for each). This is the digital side - the sample is produced by a ceramic clip as found in other Simmons gear (SDS7, SDS9 and so on). Not the crazy ear splitting-ly crisp reproduction of todays standers. But a more smooth, full ranger sound from the dawn of "samples". On the analog side you have - Noise, pitch and length (knob for each). Soloed the Noise makes a nice snare sound. That brings us to the balance knob and Volume (also work as the on/off). You can 100% clap and 100% noise with a hard pan of the balance knob. The Auto, push button and Auto speed knob control a metronome that fires the unit at intervals. On the back it has inputs and outs for Foot pedal, Synth or it can be trigger by a 80's drum pad or even a sequencer (Simmons MTM works too. any gate will do). You can fire it with a push button on the top, the "trigger" button. Nice action on this button for live use (not hard to push or sticky). The Humaniser varies the pitch just a tiny bit every time you trigger the unit so you do not get "machine gun" effect. Unless you dig that effect, then turn it off to sound like a robot. Sounds amazing!"

Any future additional copies will most likely be done as one-offs, which are twice as expensive to produce, and thus will cost twice as much.

CELLO is remastered from the original Orchestron master tapes. Please excuse my awful playing here, which is just a quick noodle to demonstrate the sound!

PLEASE NOTE: This disc WILL NOT play properly in an Optigan! They WILL play, but the sounds will NOT be mapped correctly to the keyboard- they will be mapped mostly haphazardly across the chord buttons. Please don't order this disc expecting to easily use it in an Optigan. In the future we will be porting the Orchestron sounds to the Optigan- please be patient! :)
