New EMW WCS-1 Wave Composition Oscillator Hardware Synthesizer

"We at EMW, 'Electronic Music Works' are almost ready to launch our new product, the WCS-1, a tiny synthesizer with a pretty solid sound.
We have been working for several years on this project with a new type of oscillator that we call Wave Composition Oscillator.

It utilizes digital technology to implement an additive waveform resource.

All other circuits use discrete analog technology. Some video demos of the prototype can be found on Youtube just doing a search for 'WCS-1'. [some below] New video demos are coming soon."

Analogue Solutions Leipzig-k Keyboard Monosynth

via this auction
Noisebug (RSS)

"KEY FEATURES OF LEIPZIG-k

Pure analogue voice circuitry
Fat Moog style filter
Velocity sensitive keyboard
CV/Gate outputs, so can be used as a 1V/octave CV controller keyboard for your modular system
CV/Gate inputs to voice circuit so can be controlled by an analogue sequencer or similar
All jack sockets are 6.35mm (1/4″ ‘big’ jacks)
Mod Wheel
Pitch Bend Wheel
Performance section (mod wheel control of LFO2 – i.e. vibrato/wahwah)
Pure vintage style inspired design
Lots of blue LEDs!
2 VCOs with Glide/Portamento and Sub-VCOs
Plenty of modulation routing possibilities
Extra tone controls and circuits for more sound variety e.g. LFO, CrossMod
Rugged steel construction
‘vintage’ wood design
Spun aluminium topped knobs
LCD for MIDI set-up editing
MIDI In for software sequencer control of CV/Gate
MIDI Thru
MIDI Out: pitchbend, mod wheel, velocity and note data is transmitted. Local on/off feature

The Leipzig-k keyboard design brief was simple; design a keyboard in the true spirit of vintage keyboard monosynths. There’s plenty of rack analogues and digital modelling keyboard synths around, but very few new true analogue keyboards. We aimed to design a keyboard monosynth that looked like it has been beemed back from the past. True, it has an LCD to edit the MIDI functions, but why make life hard! Thick wooden end panels and top panel wood and aluminium spun knob-caps add to the effect. Details such as this don’t come cheap, but the added cost of the hardware to get the right hardware was not omitted or the design compromised. I wanted to design a synth that truly looked the part and had all those classic vintage synth details, and no expensive or time has been spared to bring that. The quality of design, workmanship and detailing is all of top quality. The case is rugged 1.2mm steel, thick wood sides, powder coated metal, silk-screened legend, aluminium apped knobs and more.

So Leipzig looks the part, but it sounds good too. Pure analogue throughout. Discrete transistor, resistor, capacitor design. The only ICs are as you would expect; op-amps and transconductance amps. Of course there is digital circuits; the MIDI circuits, but I think you can forgive us for that! It’s somehow comforting to know that if you open up this synth you will see thousands of discrete components and not just some giany DSP chip! If oyu had the knowledge (and were prepared to lose your warranty) then you could open up the synth and circuit-bend it as you wish, disect your way into the sound or CV path.

The Leipzig-k is more than just a Leipzig rack with a keyboard. An extra LFO/VCA has been added. The depth of the LFO is controlled via the Mod Wheel. A headphone output has been added. CV/CV2/Gate inputs and outputs making this an ideal analogue synth controller keyboard."

AMSynths AM8705 Dual ADSR Envelope & AM8060 JP6 Multi-Mode VCF

via AMSynths

"This module is a Dual ADSR similar to the envelope generators in the Roland 700 and 100M modular analog synthesizers. The AM8705 contains two identical traditional ADSR format envelope generators with variable Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release. The module uses 30mm travel slide potentiometers and has toggle switches to switch between 2 different set of timings - slow or fast."

"This module contains two envelope generators each with 3 timed stages: Attack, Decay, Release. The Sustain control adjusts the level to which the Decay time reduces to. Both ADSR's are triggered together by an internal gate signal from the standard Doepfer 16 pin bus, or a front panel push button (MANUAL GATE), or individually via a gate signal connected to the front panel Gate jacks (GATE1, GATE2).

The standard duration of each stage is 10 seconds, but each ADSR can be switched using the TIME toggle switch into a fast timing 1/10 the duration. This enables fast envelopes to be generated. Two identical control voltages are available for each ADSR, making it easy to patch an ADSR into both a VCF and VCA simultaneously. The gate signal is displayed for each ADSR via a dedicated LED. Each ADSR generates a control signal from 0V to +10V.

There is a Red gate LED for ADSR1 and a Blue gate LED for ADSR2. The toggle switches have colour coded caps (Blue and Red) and the single gate switch is a Red push button button."

"This module is a replication of the Jupiter 6 voltage controlled filter which comprises two 2-pole OTA filters in series, and was launched in 1983. Each 2-pole filter can be switched into either Low Pass or High Pass modes providing three VCF modes all with variable resonance:

24dB Low Pass Filter
24dB High Pass Filter
12dB Band Pass Filter

This voltage controlled filter has a more aggressive sound than a simple 4 pole OTA based filter, along with a lot more flexibility...

This module is a multi-mode voltage controlled filter with front panel controls for adjusting the Cutoff Frequency and Resonance as well as the level of 2 control voltages and 3 audio signal inputs. There are six 3.5mm jack sockets on the right of the front panel; the filters audio output, 2 control voltages and 3 audio inputs. The filter topology can be adjusted using two front panel latching push buttons.

The filter has two 2-pole OTA filters in series, and the blue and grey push buttons select from 4 filter modes, each sounding different:

24dB Low Pass Filter - Blue and Grey OUT
24dB High Pass Filter - Blue and Grey IN
12dB Band Pass Filter - Grey IN and Blue IN
12dB Band Pass Filter - Grey OUT and Blue IN"

Vermona Retroverb Lancet

via this auction
Noisebug (RSS)

"Today's digital effects and plug-ins can create almost perfect room simulations. However, when it comes to characteristic and charismatic reverb, analogue effect-processors are yet to beat. The reverberating sound of a spring is so lively and unique that its sound is almost impossible to recreate in the digital domain. In addition to this, Retroverb Lancet is not just a spring reverberation system - it is an analogue multi-effects-processor. It offers overdrive, filtering, VCA, envelope and LFO to manipulate the spring sound and create different sounds like Auto-Wah, Tremolo, Distortion, Delay, Gater and of course Reverb.

Spring Reverb
The typical spring reverb sound is generated by a Belton/Accutronics type 4 spring tank with three individual springs. It can be placed pre or post the VCF/VCA section and equalized by the TONE parameter.

The CRASH function generates the popular "Thunder" effect that occurs when kicking an amplifier with spring tank. You don't have to kick Retroverb Lancet you simply can achieve this effect by pressing the CRASH button. It also can be triggered by a GATE voltage.

Filter and Amplifier ...are identical to Filter Lancet. The multimode filter works as lowpass or highpass with a slope of 24dB per octave or as bandpass with 12dB per octave. It is followed by a voltage controlled amplifier. Filter and amplifier can be modulated individually by different sources.

Modulation
Retroverb Lancet offers three internal modulation sources:

Envelope Follower:
The envelope follower converts the amplitude characteristic of the audio input signal into a control voltage.

Envelope Generator:
The envelope generator can be triggered by the input signal itself, a second audio signal or a gate voltage. Depending on the trigger source it works as Attack-Decay or as Attack-Sustain Release envelope.

LFO:
The LFO offers saw up and saw down, square, sine as well as sample&hold. Additionally it can use the envelope generators settings as waveform. It can oscillate freely or reset by different trigger sources. Retroverb Lancet also offers a CV/Pedal input which can be feed by external control voltages or can be used with expression pedals."
