Beatles Moog vs. Synthesizers.com

Track details:
Beatles 'Here Come the Sun' Moog and Synthesizers.com experiment
"This is an attempt at emulating the Moog parts from The Beatles song Here Comes the Sun using a Synthesizers.com modular system. The Left channel is the original Moog track ( with some strings bleeding in). The Right channel is the Dotcom modular. The emulation turned out pretty good considering that I'm not using the same recording equipment Abbey Road had to offer at the time. One particular challenge was to emulate a certain vibrato effect heard at certain places. My guess is that the vibrato was not from the Moog itself, but I suspect from the Artificial Double Tracking tape effect which The Beatles employed often and George Harrison was a particular fan of."

Beatles 'Because' Moog vs Synthesizers.com experiment
"Here I take a stab the the Moog sound from 'Because'. First, the original is heard, followed by the original on the Left channel and the emulation on the Right channel, finally the emulation is played on it's own."

Beatles 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' Moog vs Synthesizer.com experiment
"My attempt at emulating Moog sounds from The Beatles song 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer'. First the original Moog sound is heard followed by the Synthesizer.com emulation. I'm relatively satisfied with the brass ensemble but the rest could have been better. There were just some tricky thing going on I could figure out about some sounds. My suspicion is that some of these sounds were played through guitar amplifiers, giving them certain resonant characteristics I couldn't emulate on a modular synth alone."

Yamaha CS15D Vintage Dual Channel Analog Mono Synth

via this auction

"Wonderful, underrated synth! It's a semi-preset, which turns most people off, but great for straightforward 70s synth sounds, has a superb modulation/ expression section to breath life into your playing, & even features a mini synth section that fits in a variable waveform VCO & separate envelopes for filter & VCA.

Genuinely dual-channel too, there are separate CV/ Gate connections on the back for each channel, so you can trigger one from a sequencer whilst playing the other, for example. Synth section features all the same chips & tech as the rest of the CS range, the preset sounds are hardwired resistor networks, giving this a full-bodied & very warm sound.

Mod section features multi-waveform LFO to add tremolo, vibrato & wah effects, very intuative & extremely useable effects. In excellent condition, all knobs & switches original, working & intact, some slight cosmetic wear, but great conditon for a 30 year old synth. The one thing not working 100% on here: the pitch bend wheel, it raises pitch slightly when pushed up, though not as much as it should & doesn't drop pitch when shifted from the centre position."

Vintage Korg DSS 1 Analogue sampler synthesizer hybrid

via this auction

"Very very rare beast, digital 12bit sampler with analogue signal path, lush analogue VCF switchable between 12 and 24dB,
eight notes of polyphony, two oscillators per voice, a noise source, two multi-stage envelopes, a resonant filter, auto-bend, twin digital delays, oscillator sync. oscillators take their source from sampling, additive synthesis, or even hand-drawn waveforms!, has a handful of preset waveforms square/saw etc... The dynamics on this are unreal, filter sweeping that gave my Juno a real run for its money, unison mode can stack all 8 voices and can sound truly evil Think of this as a Analogue synth that samples."

TEXAS INSTRUMENTS T.I. SPEECH SYNTHESIZER

via this auction
"This is the voice synth that Kraftwerk, (founders and Gods of all electronic music including techno, ambient, and hip hop), used for the song "The Numbers" and "Computer World". Think back to the song phrases: money-numbers-people-communication-bussiness in the song "Computer World" and the number counting voice synth in the song "The Numbers" and you have the best voice synthesizer ever recorded and popularized.

This unit features the English talking voice synth with a slight British accent. When combined with phrases, individual words contained in the module vocabulary has over 3,000 statements and questions commonly used when visiting another country. As mentioned above, the unit for sale features a English robot voice which translates words and phrases entered into the unit via the keypad in German, Spanish, And French. You can spend hours playing with this talking wonder which was the parent technology to the world acclaimed "Speak and Spell"

As written on the box:

Choose one or more Plug in language modules from our growing selection. Just plug in the module, and the translator will speak the language and show you how to say many words, phrases and sentences-especially those most useful for travelers. The Solid State Speech Technology that gives the module its "voice" is unique. This remarkable Texas Instruments innovation electronically duplicates the human vocal tract on a single chip of silicon. Its the remarkable talking language translator with electronic voice and brain. Translates, pronounces and displays words, phrases and sentences.

The auction includes the unit, case, original strap, original box, FRENCH cart. and the box for that as well, and the manual. The unit works just fine on batteries and AC plug in."

Red Sound Darkstar XP2 Analog Modeling Synthesizer

via this auction

SN 00976

"The Darkstar is an 8-voice polyphonic synthesizer that uses Physical Modeling via powerful DSPs (Digital Signal Processors) to recreate the warmth and control of the synthesizers of yesteryear without the problems of unstable tuning and unrepeatable sounds, and with modern benefits like realtime control and multitimbral access.

The DARKSTAR XP2 features all the highlights of the analogue tradition such as Pulse Width Modulation, Ring Mod, Resonant Filtering and ADSR Enveloping, combined with all the advantages of modern MIDI instruments like rock-solid tuning, perfect program recall, velocity response and 5 different timbres simultaneously available.

So whether your aim is to recreate 'classic' timbres like 70's Disco Bassline / Screaming PWM Lead, chart new sonic territory with realtime joystick manipulation of filter frequency and resonance, or even combine both approaches in the same MIDI sequence, DARKSTAR XP2 is the perfect tool for you."

copperleaves - How I Set Up My Theremin

YouTube Uploaded by copperleaves on Oct 1, 2011

"This is a step-by-step description of how I set up my theremin for video recording. When I started making this video I expected it might be 7 or 8 minutes long including the performance of the Rodgers & Hammerstein song, YOUNGER THAN SPRINGTIME, which comes at the end of the talk. It turned out to be almost 15 minutes long, and I still had a bunch of things I wanted to cover!

I recorded the spoken portion of the demonstration in the above video using the videocam built-in microphone, but when I began to play the theremin I recorded to the ROLAND, mixed the song, burned a CD, and replaced the soundtrack on that portion of the video with an mp3 of the performance (using iMovie and iTunes on my Mac). With iMovie, you can import audio (in mp3 format) from your iTunes library, sync it with your video, and then mute the live audio from the original clip. It's quite simple and I can do it in just a couple of minutes.

I apologize for being so long winded and I hope that people who are interested in the theremin will find something of value here. If you have any questions post them to the "comments" section or send me a message.

Thanks for watching. Enjoy."

"I put this together just for fun. While messing with my new Taurus bass pedals, I was inspired to create a stark and simple synth soundtrack in the style of the great John Carpenter.

Everything is sequenced/played live and is entirely analog except for the drums. No effects except for a little MF-104Z analog delay on the SEM.

Playing the bass pedals with my right foot. Out of frame, but that's why I'm looking down so much...

Electribe Drums, Taurus 3 bass, Prophet '08 filter sweep, Voyager Old School bass notes, Andromeda strings, and sequences on MacBeth MK1 modules and an Oberheim SEM driven by the Moon M-569 sequencer."
