Analogue Solutions Roland TR808 rack mount kit

via this auction

"New condition

professionally silk screened 3 colour front panel with 'authentic' design.

Case with silk screened back panel.

All that is included is front panel and rear panel.

Original TR808 electronics will screw directly to the front panel.

The output jacks PCB will screw to the rear panel. You may have to extend some of the audio wires.

You will need M3 screws to screw front panel to rear panel.

The front/rear panel has spare holes if you decide to fit your own MIDI to it.

You can mount the original mains power supply to the case (seek professional advice).

I designed this for my own 808 (which I since sold). I had 5 made total. This is the last one. There will be no more!"

Yamaha CS-50 Analog Synthesizer 4 voice

via this auction

"The Yamaha CS-50 has 4 VCO's and 4 VCF's. It has 4 note polyphony. You can play 4 notes at a time.

The keys work perfectly. The PW and PWM potentiometers are damaged. But the Pulse and Saw wave VCO's still work fine. This CS-50 works well enough to play.

The filter ENV works. The VCA ENV works, except for the DECAY pot is not 100% functional.

The "Tone Selector" section : String 1&2, Brass 1&2, Flute, Electric Piano, Clavichord, Harpsichord, Guitar1&2, Funky1&2&3, & Panel: All of these work fine.

The "Transposition" section ": 1&2 OCT DOWN, Normal, 1 OCT UP ...works fine

The "touch response" controls: "Sub VCO, Oscillator VCF, Brilliance and Level" need servicing.

The "Foot Controller" jack has a problem. I tried plugging in an Alesis Foot Controller, and the CS-50 blew a fuse. (The "-15V" fuse)

The "External IN" jack works, and it causes VCO FM, VCF FM, or AM. The sound at the "External IN" jack is also heard at the Main OUT jack.

All of the other controls work fine.

I added an RC4558 op-amp to boost the output sound.

The sound is very good. This synth is fun to play. The VCO, VCF and VCA are all 100% analog. No DCO's or anything like that.

There are a few scratches on the front panel.

The signal to noise ratio is about -50dB.

The CS-50 is a "Performance Synth." It is meant to be played by hand, like a piano. There is no onboard sequencer. There is no Midi IN or OUT. There is no GATE CV INPUT. There are no CV inputs at all."

Blacet Dark Star Chaos 2000 revB

via this auction

"Blacet Dark Star Chaos 2000 Frac Rack style module for modular synth. Long out of production, this is one from the final run of these modules. Gently used, works as new. Factory built. Comes with power cable and manual.

Great fun module, unique sounds. Here is what the Blacet site has to say about it:

Analog synth module with versatile noise modulator
Voltage controlled clock frequency pseudorandom noise generator
Voltage controlled noise filter
Noise modulated pulse VCO with VC pulse width modulation
Envelope generator with gate, attack, and decay

When the Dark Star first appeared in 1982, the brochure had the following description:

"Need an amazing source of synthesized sounds at an absurd price? Here you go....a noise oriented prepatched minisynthesizer built around a powerful LSI chip.

The Dark Star TM provides a digital noise source with variable clock, plus a noise filter, LFO, VCO, VCA and envelope generator; a whole panel of synthesizer modules in just a tiny 6 x 4 x 3" package...

You can use it to simulate all those surf, wind, rain, cymbal, explosion, spaceships hurtling across the void and warping out type sounds. Careful design and wide range controls give you a real sound exploration tool; don't be fooled by the low price. Try it as a percussion kit addition, a drone voice, even as a modulation source. The Dark Star just doesn't sound like anything else--we guarantee it!"
Unavailable for many years, the Dark Star now makes a swing through our planetary system....

This reissue of the Dark Star uses the same basic circuit and updates the design with expanded control ranges and CV inputs for the Noise Clock, Noise Filter, VCO and PWM. Use it as a standalone sound generator or interface it with a modular system for some truly wild sounds!

With the interest in chaos theory and fractals in the past few years, this unit provides an excellent means to explore the effects of chaotic (noise) modulation. The results cover quite a wide range from the haunting to the apocalyptic...

"The four built in demo tracks of the E-MU Audity 2000 Sound Module from 1999. The Audity 2000 came before the well known Proteus 2000 line and it's many spin-offs, so it shares the same synthesis architecture. My unit has the Version 2 ROM which offers 64 voice polyphony rather than the 32 voice polyphony found on Version 1 ROM units.

This was recorded using an Alesis LineLink audio interface. Sorry about the slight clipping in places."

Simmons SDS 9 Synth Drum Kit -- 5 Yellow Pads + MIDI Brain

via this auction

"vintage, working Simmons SDS 9 Drum Kit, with brain, four tom pads, and piston-loaded bass drum pad (with spurs), and a print-out of the manual (that you can also find online)...

My favorite part of the feature-laden SDS 9? That's hard to say. You can trigger any of the brain's 40 kits (20 factory set, 20 user-programmed) by MIDI, or by sequencer, or by the iconic hexagonal pads (in the coveted yellow color); you can play around with all sorts of ADSR/tuning parameters on the individual channels, then save your drum kit settings onto a Data Cassette! (I've included a sealed, unopened maxell cs-500 hd data cassette in this auction for the lucky winner); there's a built-in, fully programmable delay feature, 1985-style, that's not found in other SDS brains; there are individual outs for all of the channels, and you can replace the snare and rim shot EPROMs with whatever other Simmons EPROMs you can win here on the 'bay... and all that's very cool... but to me, perhaps the coolest part of the SDS 9 is the fact that it combines 3 types of vintage synth-drum sounds into one kit... the gritty "computer generated" sounds of the bass drum, the analog circuitry of the earlier brains for the three toms, and the EPROM early-sampling technology for the snare and the rim shot."

"A lovely sounding organ / strings / polysynth . String sound is comparable to the Roland RS 202 and you can build up more complex sounds because of the 3 sections. PItch of the organ/string section can be detuned against the pitch of the polysynth. It contains an excellent ensemble effect in addition to vibrato and tremelo effect. Its a little heavy so best suited for studio use! The analog section strings/polysynth sound , to me , is very beautiful ; grainy ., a very physical real sound."
