Satellites Cry (Afterwards Oramics Mix)

Listen on OraMix here
(you can vote as well)

"'Satellites Cry' is the music imagined for a segment of the 1967 'Our World' broadcast, the first live international TV programme bounced around the world by satellite. Using only sounds from the Oramics Machine samples we've tried to give voices to those satellites, calling to each other across the vast void of space, and to us back on Earth, on Our World. ** Don't forget - if you enjoy it, let us know by 'liking' it at http://oramics.herokuapp.com/tracks/5 - thanks! ** "

Atomic Shadow's DO3 for The Museum of Science Daphne Oram Remix Project

Listen at The Science Museum
(you can also vote for the track)

"Sonic sculpture for the Museum of Science remix content, assembled from the original Oram tracks with two additions. One used vintage sine wave generators and effects pedals, recorded in real time. The second took one of the stems and ran it through a tape echo pedal where the sound was 'played' by changing the feedback and other controls in real time. The other parts were reversed, slowed down, chopped up and pitched and arranged just as they did in the days of tape recorders and scissors. Despite the advantage of doing the editing with a computer it still took about two weeks to get the composition in order."

Atomic Shadow's sinewave generators have been featured in Hollow Sun's Music Laboratory Machines. You can find his other music at http://atomicshadow.bandcamp.com/

Uploaded by gramsci2004 on Nov 30, 2009

"Having composed his first major electro-acoustic work in 1965, 'The Return,' New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn (1915-2001) set up New Zealand's first electronic music studio in Victoria University of Wellington where he held a teaching position as a senior lecturer in music. He subsequently went on to create a significant body of electro-acoustic music with predominant New Zealand themes."

"A split cable is coming from the mini mighty Lorenzo and into the VCO F and ADSR Gate on a Doepfer A-111-5. Then through the usual BP8."

via Ununseptium Warehouse where you'll find details including more shots of the inside. This is more an organ vs. a synth but has presets that go beyond typical organ sounds.

"The voices are fairly basic square wave derivatives: 'Flute' scopes out as a 'Fair Low Frequency Response' while 'String' comes in with a 'Poor Low Frequency Response'. Each can be used independently or together. A volume mixer would have been nice. Not a difficult mod, but where to put the knob?!"

Phaedra Sequencer for iPad

via Analog Industries, run by Chris Randall of Audio Damage.

"In my ludicrously ample free time, I've been working on this bad boy, Phaedra. It is an "analog" style four-channel MIDI sequencer for the iPad. Click the picture for the full-rez screenshot. In the interests of full disclosure, I borrowed heavily from the Moon Modular 568 Quad Sequential Trigger Source, which you can read all about up in here.

I still have a long way to go, but it is coming along nicely. Each step has note, velocity, gate time, and a pair of MIDI CCs of your choosing. I haven't yet coded in the chaining feature, but it'll be able to do 4 x 32, 2 x 64, and 1 x 128 modes. The steps can be 32nd note, 16th note, 8th trips, and 8th note, and each "bus" can run in arbitrary lengths. The "Live Control" knobs on the left can be used to modify one of the four destinations..."

"A different style of Time Machine (though similar in nature to the time scape and collaborative time machines) made for processing sound or as a standalone sound generator synth with magnetic patchbay/touchboard (for touch based synthesis), patchable keys and thousands of possibilities from the subtle to the extreme. Check out the others in the time machine/time scape realm to get an idea of what this piece is capable of.

Please go here to see more:

There are also a few user videos and more info posted on our blog.

The keys on this piece are patchable - each patch altering the incoming sound with ring modulation, stuttering, granulation and other strange effects. The time range is selectable from extremely tight to roughly 2 seconds, degrading in quality to slower times.

Samples can be captured, added to and manipulated in hundreds of ways and this time machine features modulation that the other time machines don't. The time machine can also be used strictly as a deep analog delay with dub feedback or set the time to extremely tight and use it as a flange - throw splashes of ring modulation or granulation in the way and it becomes something much more unusual. This piece also has a control voltage jack as well, allowing you to play times on a keyboard, for example.

Includes a manual and is signed by the artist; Arius Blaze..."

The Chemical Brothers on SOS

via Innerclock Systems, via Sound on Sound

"When it comes to looking after the Chemical Brothers, Cox certainly has his hands full. The duo’s live setup includes a mind-boggling array of digital and analogue equipment, ranging from the brand-new to the practically antique, all of which needs to be kept in rock-solid sync with Mac laptops running Logic and Ableton Live."

One of the tools that helps him do so is the Innerclock Systems Sync-Gen Sync-Lock pictured below.

Top (SOS): "Matt Cox tunes up a Roland Jupiter 6 polysynth prior to the Creamfields show. Note the custom-made covers that keep the gear dry backstage."

Middle (SOS): "Most of the Chemical Brothers’ on-stage gear is housed in custom curved racks that are designed to echo the lines of their favourite Serge modular synth."

Teenage Engineering OP-1: November 25, 2011

"So I came home drunk yesterday night(!) and started creating this song instead of sleeping. Turned out alright haha. OP-1 only has 4 tracks but there is a lot of sounds overlapping each track here. I learned that if you press Shift+CutTrackKey you will copy all 4 tracks and can paste them later. I think there is a lot more to learn when copying/cut/pasting tracks which I still don't get.

I'm just goofing around in the last part of this song editing during playback with the EQ and the speed. I also use the reverse playback at the same time which turned out to be quite fun!"

The Signal: Electronic Music Project Featuring UVB-76 Russian Shortwave Radio & AudioCubes

On Kickstarter, where you'll find relevant links to more info.

"The Signal is a project about communication, technology, conspiracy theories and community.

UVB-76 is an arcane, shortwave radio frequency based somewhere in Russia that has been broadcasting a steady stream of beeps, blips, buzzes and chirps since the Cold War. And no one knows what it is (except possibly whoever is broadcasting it). (Read more about UVB-76: Inside the Russian Short Wave Radio Enigma, Wired)

This project is an attempt to communicate the experience around listening to an encoded stream of information and trying to decipher it, and the community of individuals around the world who are actively trying to do that with UVB-76 through instrumental electronic music.

The key tools I want to use for this project -- and the basis for Kickstarter funding -- are AudioCubes by Percussa. Some examples of AudioCubes in use are in the video above, on Percussa's website and YouTube. The method by which one can create evolving music through the use of AudioCubes would lend itself perfectly to this project.

This project is going to happen even if the project goal isn't reached. If I don't get funded, I am still going to make the album, just maybe without the cubes (although that would be sad). The project will be written, produced and recorded during the month of February for the RPM Challenge. If we meet our funding goal, it will be mastered by Colin C. (Slighter/Visitor 7/The Pushers) -- who will actually be able to be paid for his services. Depending on where we are in the final funding amount, I may print a limited run of physical discs for anyone interested, otherwise all backers will at least receive a copy of the album in digital format."

Beat Shuffler for iPad

"25% OFF Introductory price, until the new version with AudioCopy is released.

Beatshuffler is a music app that slices loops and allows you to trigger those slices, always on time. It is a great beat sketching tool where almost everything sounds interesting, since the slice triggering always falls on the beat. At its core, it is inspired by the mlrv app, for the Monome and other grid devices.

It features:
- 6 tracks for loops.
- Ability to import WAV and MP3 files.
- iOS File Sharing import for exchanging files with the app.
- A mixer.
- A master channel with effects.
- A separate channel for each of the tracks, with effects.
- Available effects: Delay and Low Pass Filter.

Among the upcoming features are Audio Clipboard support, to import loops from other apps and an expanded loop library."
