Sponsor Shout Out

I just wanted to give a shout out and a HUGE thank you to the direct sponsors of the site. You can find their banners on the right of the site under the Manufacturers, Dealers and new Artists sections. For those new to MATRIXSYNTH, every single post you see here goes up by hand. There is zero automation on the site. Everything you see is hand picked, hand processed and hand posted. At a current average of ~50 posts a day, this takes a ton of time and work (hours a day, seven days a week). Not a single day off since 2005 with the exception of one day at the start of the blog when I had no idea what I was getting into. :)

With that, every bit of support is extremely appreciated, and the banners you see on the right of the site are the banners of those that believe in the site enough to support it. Please support them in return.

Moving forward, all new sponsors will be announced in a new post as a show of gratitude and an opportunity to call out all sponsors of the site.

That said, this month we have two new sponsors, WilliamK (our first artist sponsor), and Australia's EquinoxOZ specializing in eurorack and esoteric audio devices. Novamusik is also back. Please take the time to check them out. And of course be sure to check out others on the right as well.

BTW, an easy, free way to support the site is to simply spread the word. If you see a post you like, share it with others via your Internet presence whatever that may be - Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Vimeo, SoundCloud etc. Every little bit helps the site.

The Animals House of the Rising Sun Old School Computer Remix

YouTube Uploaded by bd594 on Dec 2, 2011

"While following on the coat tail of my first popular video "Queen Bohemian Rhapsody Old School Computer Remix" [posted here - also see bd594 & the mechanical label for more] i tried to change the venue and built a couple of robot bands (yeah! machines that play actual instruments). These videos didn't fair as well so i decided to go back to the basics and create another video utilizing old computer equipment. For this video i recorded each instrument separately with a decent stereo mic and i also used a mixer to adjust the audio levels. i would like to point out that absolutely no sampling or audio effects were used.

instruments

a. HP Scanjet 3P, Adaptec SCSI card and a computer powered by Ubuntu v9.10 OS as the Vocals. (hey, the scanner is old)
b. Atari 800XL with an EiCO Oscilloscope as the Organ
c. Texas instrument Ti-99/4A with a Tektronix Oscilloscope as the Guitar
d. Hard-drive powered by a PiC16F84A microcontroller as the bass drum and cymbal

i was very pleased how the hard-drive drums turned out and they sound great. i will definitely use them in my next video. Oh Yeah, my next video i would like to use a current song so please leave any recommendations.
(3OH!3 is a big contender)

i would like to give a shoutout to James Houston who (i think) was the first person to use multiple legacy computer equipment in conjunction to make a song. Be sure to take the time to view his YouTube video "Big ideas: Don't get any - Radiohead cover by James Houston". [posted here]

For all you haters out there:
1. The timing is not off, take the time to listen to the actual song before criticizing.
2. No, i don't have a lot of spare time so i have to use it sparingly.
3. Fair use on the internet. Not making any money here! i wasn't even born when this song came out but this is just one way of reviving an older song and introducing it to Generation Z.

:)

thanks for watching

Decoding the Korg Monotribe Firmware Upgrade

via Gravitronic where you'll find the full details.

"Korg released a firmware update for the monotribe. It's an audio file that you play to the sync input of the monotribe. Interesting, yeah? Let's take a look at the content of the file and see how far we can get towards disassembly. This would be the first steps towards a custom firmware for the korg monotribe..."

via this auction via Fernando in the comments of this post.

"For one week only, from "The Pando Collection of Keyboards and Antiques" comes out this Emi Powerhouse Bandmaster Rhythm Unit. This one of a kind instrument is one of the few in working condition in the world and is complete with a collection of eight magazines.

From the family of Mellotron instruments, the Powerhouse is loved by producers in search on that 70's analog sound. The Powerhouse is a must have not just for collectors, but also for producers and studios in search of original loops.

The Powerhouse magazines feature adjustable loops of excellent quality. And this unit comes with 8.

Tape 1 is Quickstep, Shuffle, Twist and funky beat.
Tape 2 includes Old Time Jazz, Jazz waltz 12/8 rhythm and Nodern Waltz.
Tape 3 includes: Slow foxtrot, tango, pasodoble y bolero.

Electro-Harmonix Analogizer demo

"Got the digital blues? Coat your guitar in warm, organic tone. The new Analogizer thaws out digitally processed guitar [or synth], and gives you the sound and feel of an analog delay without the long delay times. Boost your solos with up to 26dB of gain. Fatten your sound. The Analogizer is the antidote to harsh and lifeless sounding digital pedals.
