Akai MPC-60, MFB Synth II, EMW WCS-1 Demo by Jordan Passmore

YouTube Published on Jun 30, 2012 by jordanpassmore

"Here is a demo of the Akai MPC-60 Sampler/Sequencer, MFB Synth II Analog Synth, and EMW WCS-1 Analog Synth. The drums/sequencing were done by my MPC-60; the drums were sampled on the MPC using my Roland TR-808 as a sound source. The bassline is the EMW WCS-1 and the MFB Synth II is the sequenced melody. Both are sequenced by the MPC-60. The delay/echo effect is a really old Washburn analog delay. The mixer is an Alto AMX-220.

There is lots of cross-talk/hiss/noise in this recording. I personally like this, and I fully understand how I would go about eliminating this. But I would never want to."

seqSQUARED: The Analogue Pattern Generator [Poor quality Demo #2]

YouTube Published on Jun 30, 2012 by hexinverterDOTnet

"seqSQUARED is a do it yourself ("DIY") kit and eurorack assembled module for analog modular synthesis. It will be available shortly in multiple package options:

- Fully assembled and tested Eurorack module
- Eurorack kit (for DIY)
- Universal kit (for DIY)
- Bare PCB + Microcontroller (for DIY)

It takes up to four sequencers' CV and Gate as input and allows you to arrange them into larger patterns up to 32 steps in length.

Note: Please excuse seqSQUARED's nakedness (lack of front panel) and the poor image/sound quality. The new front panel has not arrived yet, and I do not have a decent quality video camera at my disposal right now. You can view the first demo video for a better quality image of what the module will roughly look like when it is done, by viewing the other video in this channel.

It is a perfect companion to an array of hexinverter.net sympleSEQs!

It works very similarly to the many sequential switches available on the market today, except that it is programmable. Meaning, you can program arbitrary patterns of sequences to make musical arrangements, not just go A, B, C, D, repeat, like with most sequential switches.

This module is meant to FEEL analog. It uses potentiometers and 5mm LEDs, NOT LCDs or menu-driven editing. Because of this analog user interface, it is quite fast and painless to program once you have used it for a few minutes.

For more information, and to pre-order this module in kit or assembled form before the campaign time runs out, please visit the Indiegogo page here:

http://igg.me/p/89405?a=227451

NOTE: Modules and kits will begin shipping end of July to mid-August after the campaign ends and funds are transferred.

Once the campaign is over and everything has settled down after pre-orders, kits and modules will be available in hexinverter.net's online shop as well, at:

http://www.hexinverter.net"

"It passes all of the front panel diagnostics and I was able to test all ports on the back with the exception of the CV inputs as I have no way to connect to them. One thing to make clear on these quirky analog beasts- they are NOT service free. A few years back this one was exhibiting erratic parameter/knob jitter which the OS update did not remedy. I ended up sending it back to Alesis and $300 later I had it back- about all they had to do was re-seat the ribbon cables (namely, the big wide one that crosses the main PCBs). So, that was an expensive lesson to learn. Since then, I have reseated the cable once. Seems to happen just over time or if it's being moved around. The buyer should acknowledge this and accept that he/she may need to pop the hood on this unit to re-seat the cable(s) on occasion. This is a common issue and can be found in yahoo group discussions if you search for the term "pots" or "jitter" or similar. The good news is that the board layout is easy to navigate and readily accessible once opened..." As always read the full description and see all pics on eBay before bidding.

Dirty Carter Experimental Sound Instrument

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"The Dirty Carter Experimental Sound Generating Instrument uses a dual 4-stage shift register. Each register is controlled independently. Two oscillators are used per register: one as a clock, the other as input data that is cascaded through the four stages. The outputs from the stages are mixed together. A fast clock rate produces a crude form of wavetable synthesis, whilst a slow clock rate creates audible pulses and clicks. The clock speed and the data input’s frequency are controlled by touch electrodes/pads. By tilting the instrument, sound from both the 4-stage shift registers can be mixed together. Glitchy noise, deep drones and percussive peeps!

This instrument was designed in collaboration with Chris Carter from Throbbing Gristle for two specific events in Leicester, UK and Amsterdam in 2010. A few of the printed circuit boards were left and have recently been assembled by ASMO. Limited editions of 10 instruments now sold out. This unit has been used for half an hour so is in perfect condition. Collector's item.

"This MG-1 has been completely refurbished at Syntaur, and is fully functional. All switches and pots have been cleaned, so there are no glitchy notes or scratchy pots. The power supply has been recapped, for many more years of good service.

We have added an audio input circuit, to allow the wonderful Moog filter to be used to process external audio. But instead of drilling holes in this piece of vintage gear, we have done it in a way that is 100% non-destructive and reversible. The right Tape In jack has been disabled and is used for this input; should you prefer the original configuration, it is a very simple procedure to reverse this mod."

VC TimeGen Clock is used as master clock (no external sequence).
The VCFQ's frequency & resonance are adjusted via diverse CV modulations (Precision VCO LFO, DUSG,...) and/or manually.
Boolean Logic, Pulse Divider and Extended ADSR are used for the main rhythmical variations, while changing the strength and the phase of the frequency also creates totally new sequence patterns."
